Thank you for a very detailed presentation. Things I like about the presentation, 1. Detailed with references. 2. Project thought through. 3. Very sturdy. 4. Final fit and finish is amazing. Your build is very similar to what I need. I will likely copy it with small changes for my particular configuration.
The lift I built at my previous house used a single cable from the harbor freight hoist, to a ring that I attached 4 chains to I-bolts that went thru the platform I built.I was lucky that house was stick built, so I no issue about cutting the 2x6 floor joists and framing out the opening using 2x6 lumber. With the single point of cable attachment, it definitely liked to spin, so I wore heavy gloves to hold the cable and guided the chains into the opening as it got closer. It was functional but definitely room for improvement. Fast forward to today, newer home so it has trusses, but they are heavier trusses designed to support loads, as my furnace is in the attic. I will not disturb the trusses, but will work within the 22” opening. I like what you did utilizing the garage door hardware, and that’s how I’m going to design my system for this house, I also like the handles and the guide straps. I have question for you- why didn’t you utilize the hoist attachment system built into the housing, designed to use 2” metal stock? Overall great job and attention to detail, it never hurts to put a little pride into every project.
Simply spot on as a lift and roof seal. I would not have gone as far as a table especially with the tall handles and alo guides. I'm guessing that was an afterthought. You went that extra mile with your finishing detail and made the job so much better. Congrats.
Thanks! You are correct in that it was a little bit of an afterthought, but it comes in handy during the holidays and when I want to do a stand-up unboxing video, etc. Thanks for the kind comments!
I cannot thank you enough for your videos on the lift. Just finished mine today and I basically copied mine like yours. I have to go buy more springs as I lifted the elevator car too far up and stretched them out. I will make a stop so this does not happen again tomorrow.
Amazing setup! Wonder if it could be configured with the tabletop/bar on top, anchored to the dolly handles. That way you would have the table available whenever you drop the platform without having to screw the legs on/off. Table might be a little more solid as well. You'd want to make the tabletop easily removable for those times you need standing leverage to load heavier items.
I have Want to do one all year. this is the best video I have seen. Wish price of lumber wasn’t so expensive right now. Like the unifi ap in the garage
Great job. Anything doing is worth overdoing. By far the best garage lift system I've seen, this will most certainly help me when im ready. I agree with some others on the music & video length. Liked, and Subscribed. Thank you
Good Job Bro!!! This project give you huge personal pleasure because this prove you can do anything you want with your hands... But, if you calculate material, time and labor, is better buy one ready to install...
I’m really liking your garage series! Your style closely matches mine. Of all the garage videos I could find online this is what I envision my garage looking similar to. “SHOW AND GO”, you really utilized the space well and found a way to make it look great(I’m stealing your attic storage system ideas). Everything has a home and it doesn’t appear that you had to purge most of your things to fit it all in. I look forward to seeing future videos of the garage if you add/change anything. SUBSCRIBED!
Awesome! Thank you! I really appreciate you taking the time to comment and subscribe! Steal away! You are right, I didn't have to purge. However, I am always seeking new real estate in my garage area...so I might have to purge in the near future! Only my wife's things of course :) I have several videos coming that are garage related! The most recent was last night. ruclips.net/video/n4Vl9ddDiIM/видео.html
Thats so cool. Do you Think if that was Build in the corner of a room and when it dosent sewing anymore that it could Lift a weehlchair? I cant sofort a Lift so i need other solutions! Maybe some read this and has idea for me ! Please excuse my Bad english. Great Video!!!
I have seen some built against a wall with a larger motor and safety measures. No doubt it could be done, but certainly safety precautions should be taken for a handicapped person. Best to you!
nice! Not understanding need to make it "pretty" will the diamond plate, etc. but to each his own. Also, why detach and use the legs? Could just put some thin rubber sticky seal around perimeter to seal garage from attic and leave the platform attached.
Thanks. I guess I just like the look. I honestly don't use it for a bar but about twice a year. When I do though I like to detach it and show it as a freestanding bar.
Awesome job! What is your dimensions of the platform? (Mainly length) What is cut out length in ceiling, and what did you have for finished platform length? Are you satisfied with size? Want to start planning my next project! Thanks
Opening 66x20, Platform is 65x19 Yes, the size works well with the sizes of totes and boxes that I send up to the attic. The width is restricted to the opening, or I would have liked it to be wider!
Really awesome job! So to be clear you went between the existing ceiling joist..i.e. you didn't reframe the ceiling to make a wider hole. Again. Great job and best how-to out there!
Cool project and does make storage easier. Do be careful of how much weight you put up there. Those pre-manufacturered 2x4 trusses shouldn’t carry more than 5 lbs per square foot. I have seen them break when homeowners put too much storage up there.
Your garage build is amazing and efficient. I have seen a few of these builds for an attic lift. My only concern with the design is that the platform is free to swing, especially as the lift points are directly in one line from one another. How did you solve the problem of balancing your load so it would not tilt the platform and fall off, particularly if you loaded two or more boxes (containers) on top of each other? A top heavy load would certainly pose such a danger. Thanks for sharing your video.
What is the brand and model of your attic ladder/stairs? I like the pitch. Great video. The off the shelf lifts are so expensive. I just have to balance my time with doing your DIY one. Thanks.
It shakes a bit too much for my liking, the point of connection isn't close enough to the actual platform you are lifting. Putting it closer would help with the wobble a little bit.
Your garage is more of a showroom than a garage. With all the matching cabinets and leds it too nice and modern. Its missing that old gritty dirty garage soul, but you're getting work done so maybe i should shut the hell up. Lol good video tho brother.
That lift turned out Awesome, you do not live in Pa by chance? I would love to have you over to check on my lift build when in my 1000 ft garage that I built. Hey Jim! I'm honored! Wish I lived closer, but I am in Missouri. I checked out your channel and subscribed! I can actually say a legit RUclipsr subscribed to my channel! :) I am just gaining some traction, but the downside for me is that life has been a little busy and I am lagging on my content. I have several videos in progress and I hope to have some new content up soon. I am converting my garage into a woodshop...that should provide some interesting material! Thanks again for reaching out. Maybe we can still collaborate sometime!
@@ABrazHouse sounds great this RUclips thing has been a learning process for me. I know I can improve much more. It is a lot of fun helping people save $$ and I get to make a few dollars as well. Gonna need another thin piece of plywood to put on there when you want to lift your snow tires up to the attic for summer, or some old lawnmower engines or something. Just as a side note, take it easy on the background music. I almost didn't make it through your video because of it. I had to mute the whole thing to get away from it, and part #1 as well. Good job otherwise.
Good idea, although I don't store things like that in the attic. Thanks for the tip on the music! I am still feeling my way around on the video production side of things. 👍
Ha! Have you ever tried to manipulate boxes, totes, etc up a ladder? I've done it both ways and I will take the lift any day. By the way, when it comes to Christmas décor (around 25 totes) I work up top and my wife works below as I send 4-6 totes at a time up/down. No comparison period.
Nice job!
Thanks! Appreciate the view!
Asthetics, functionality, finish, and multi-use - all of your videos in the garage series. A++

I'm glad to see you took care of most of the minor issues you had from the first video. Great build!

Sounds great! Best of luck, go for it!
I love your setup. one concern I have is how to keep your cables from wadding up when you get slack at the bottom. Thanks for the great ideas!

Move the bearings plates next to the cable drums before you hit your head on them!
I solved that with a board in front...last part of ep. 2. :)
@@ABrazHouse I was kinda worried about the torsion rod flexing under load as well.

Thanks Jerry. Yeah, I try to be mindful...mainly décor and lighter weight stuff.
How much weight would you feel comfortable lifting? 500 #s?
I max out at about 100lbs with the weight of it.

I believe the total weight of the platform helps. I haven't experienced any tilting issues at all.
If balance is a problem. I thought of a similar end handles, just running the cable through the handles to the platform.
Beefing mine up, thanks for the videos, question did you adjust for where the cable spooled up later?
You are welcome! Yes I did do a slight adjustment.

Real nice! Question: How tall is your garage from floor to ceiling, and garage ceiling to attic ceiling?
Floor to ceiling is 9’6” and floor of ceiling to attic ceiling in the center is 7’

Yes, but it has a steep pitch. I like being able to stand up and walk around in the middle area though!
