I can’t wait for the day people realize music objectivity isn’t real and that their own opinions aren’t gospel. It feels like these aren’t even “communities” but more cutthroat competitions to see who has the “best” opinions, and therefore who is the most “superior” it seems. It’s so annoying and has really ruined a lot of online discussion for me.

I originally found underscores through six impala (havent watched the full video yet so you probably talk about it but just in case its an experimental band she's part of as milkfish along with katt helvetican and script,) and have absolutely fell in love with her music since then. My favorite songs are probably Spoiled little brat, Heck, and Geez louise for each album. This is a very cool analysis of her music, thank you for making it!

Important info about Duh: according to the Wallsocket speed runs, this song is actually about a Real illness she was diagnosed with, which she urged others to not worry about or be parasocial and look into it. She just decided to try and fit it into the story but didn’t tie up the loose ends well

21:32 Wait, how is that statement different from saying that those who don't like your favourite albums simply don't "get it"? Especially when you mention the refreshing sounds it kind of reminds me of what you touched on about objectivity in art - the way you describe these new artists it sounds a lot more like it's a fact that they are innovative and thus disliked and not like your personal relation to their music due to your lived experiences. Not meant as a dig at you, I'm just genuinely curious because that part sounds a bit wrong compared to the rest of the video.

When it comes to "best" vs "favourite", I would add that it can also be used to show that while something sounds very interesting, varied and thoughtful, that it doesn't hit the right tone for you. I can appreciate TPAB, but I don't like the overall structure. That doesn't mean that me rating it as 3 stars is the same as me rating a genuinely uninteresting album as 3 stars, because TPAB definitely left an impact - however, I don't feel like returning to the album, which means it's definitely not my favourite, but interesting enough that I can understand why other people love it.

Personally, I like number ratings - not because I want to use those as arguments or anything, but I like the benefit of being able to show someone very easily what kind of music I enjoy. There's no point in arguing what score should be assigned to a piece of music, however, it can inform other people of your general attitude towards it and what you would recommend. And instead of having to tell someone how I feel about 300 albums, I'd rather show my ratings for others to get a perspective into my type of music. And if the other person happens to find some ratings interesting, it can also be a great conversation opener. So instead of "Chroma Velocity is not a 10 bro" it can become "Why did you rate Chroma Velocity a 10?" - to which I'll gladly respond with maybe too much text :) Also, I just love statistics.

The only reason I could say I don’t like when an artist kindve blows up and inflates their fanbase (what people call normies) is how it affects shows. The underscores show is the most fun show I’ve ever been to cuz every person there knew every song and genuinely adored April, compared to quannnic or brakence, where the audiences at those shows were very dead for every song except the one or two they did know. Otherwise ofc I’m glad an artist I love is successful

I was also at the Detroit show! That was genuinely the best crowd at a show I’ve ever been to. Did you stay after to meet her as well?
