Hi Bill, i think that any bowls you turn will still warp as they dry further, it is difficult for the moisture deap inside the log to escape, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it. I have another bowl that looks better, in a quirky natural way, less engineered, that moved as it finished drying and that was after rough turning it and leaving it on a shelf for a year. Supposedly it takes a year per inch to dry depending on the humidity. I hope that helps, keep well, Rob

Sorry for the delayed response, it is Walnut oil. Food safe and is supposed to polymerize to form a protective barrier.

It hasn’t darkened much, which is a little disappointing. I think the polymer coating I used has a UV blocker.

It has darkened nicely and does smell great.

Thank you, I thought I should share as the drill method is the only one I had seen before. Once you add broken drill bits and chipped wood chisels the frustration is significantly higher. I must get better screws for next time.

Thank you Nik, I used the angle drill from Woodturners wonders woodturnerswonders.com/collections/angle-drill .For what it is worth, I damaged the gearbox drilling too big a hole and the motor quit on me while I was trying to get a replacement gearbox. It could be that the electric portion was damaged because of too much stress from the damaged gearbox. I bought this (amzn.to/3KRSmUv) as a replacement, it seems sturdier but only time will tell. Hi Lee, i recommend a full sized lathe if you can manage it. I bought two other smaller ones, progressively bigger, first…which I now regret. If you are new to turning, you could join a club and use their gear. Mine charges less than $100 for the year. Let me know what you get. Keep well, Rob
