My biggest fish to date! Land Based Shark Fishing Adventure! - By Fisherman ATX
In the hunt for larger fish, my buddy and I decided to head out to Florida Panhandle in hopes of landing some big sharks. Sure enough each of us landed a beautiful shark!
My personal best record an 8ft 4" Lemon Shark that was successfully released after few pictures. My buddy also landed a nice healthy big Bull Shark 8th 1" that had a big girth and was so heavy! It was also successfully released. We missed out on another big one that missed out the hooks.
Overall, it was a great adventure and totally worh the drive of 12 + hours from ATX to Texas Panhandle.

Surf looked good, but off color. Spring time is the best! All though I didn't catch the fish that I usually get this time of the year, I still landed a big bullred. This was another great fishing trip with my buddies! Caught 3 bullreds, one sandbar , not counting the small sharks and hardheads lol The Breakaway HDX did a great job pulling one of the bullreds. The challenge was the 20# test line and the small hooks. So, I didn't want to put too much tension on the fish so I won't lose it. Thank you! I fish anywhere down from 9 miles and beyond. I always use Pink Shrimp Fishbites. I also used the green one (crab), but the pink shrimp works better for me. Good luck out there 😊👍

Yes fishbites and shrimp. That 25" red was caught on fishbite only.

Thank you Christopher! Yah, I'll have better videos of the Aquacat next time for sure 😊 The rod used there is the ocean master surf rod. But these are old ones. Pretty tough and good for shark fishing.

I also fish sargent and freeport alot but always walk out and get my bait in the third gut past the second sandbar.
Thanks Jon 😊. One thing I like about Matagorda is that it has a deep first gut. So a lot of times the bait would be close to the banks.

any seaweed? any mosquitoes? went before Christmas and it wasn't fishable from the seaweed and mosquitoes.
I was there after Christmas and there was a very little seaweed with incoming tide, but it was very little. So it was definitely fishable. There were no mosquitoes at all. But that's probably because of the strong wind.
I have a friend that went to Matagorda and reported that there was some seaweed in few locations, but you could find some spots swaweed free. No mosquitos probably due to the wind 😊
it's unusually hot thus past month or two...I find the fishing at the surf is better when below 50 degrees air temperature.
