Why I Use Storygraph and You Should Too! | Storygraph Picks My Reads
I’m really proud of this vlog today! Hannah (@hanpickedbooks) and I had the pleasure of chatting with Nadia from The StoryGraph on our podcast Book Talk, etc. last week. One of StoryGraph’s best features is their recommendations tab- it will ask you some questions and recommend books based on your survey! I review the two books it chose for me and give my updated thoughts on my nemesis…Everand.

Your timing with this video was perfect for me as I just started using Storygraph this past week. I had signed up and imported my Goodreads library a long time ago, but then never used it. This time, I am doing it differently and I’m so excited. I deleted my whole library and started fresh. Now I will use Goodreads to track everything I read (including all the books I read to my son) and I will still use Goodreads (mainly) to track my TBR because I have loads of shelves set up there. But now I can use Storygraph to track just the books that I would count towards my reading goals (no picture books and such). This will give me clear stats on my personal reading and goals! I look forward to listening to your podcast episode about this. I’m also now wondering if Storygraph would work better than Discord for book clubs. . . . As I like the way Storygraph is set up so much more).

Thanks for sharing your experience on StoryGraph with your audience. I read Mad Honey and really liked it. I have always had this be true for me… until this fall. I always read multiple books at a time (we’ll say from 3-15 if you count books I’m reading aloud to my son and some of them are short story collections, books of poetry, maybe a cookbook with essays, etc. as well as regular fiction and nonfiction and including audiobooks as well as the old-fashioned paper kind). But starting in November I went through a time when multiple major stressors were hitting all at once and while I never stopped reading I read so, so much less. I am just coming out of it now, but I honestly thought I was immune to reading slumps because reading is one way that I deal with stress, but the high levels of anxiety I was experiencing made it very hard to concentrate or enjoy reading in any format.

I just preordered The Favorites yesterday and should receive it next week so I'm excited to hear about how much you enjoyed it. Can't wait to read this one. I finished The Escape Room by Megan Goldin yesterday and even though it was a propulsive read, there was very little escape room to this thriller so the title was misleading. I'm 2/3 done with The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon (on audio) and this one is really good. Might be a favorite. I like the voice of the narrator and I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying it considering I don't usually read much historical fiction.

@@smileycindy the frozen river is excellent!! And I read the escape room too… isn’t that the one where they’re stuck on an elevator? And I hope you love The Favorites!

@@tbretc Yes, that is correct, it is the one where they are stuck in an elevator... The Elevator would have been a more fitting title than The Escape Room, but I don't think it would have sold as well - LOL!
