What did you do for pooping and keeping clean? Did you filter your own water or do any long water carries?
There’s a toilet you’ll past on most days! Especially if you’re willing to pay for a coffee at a shop to have access to their toilet. Keeping clean wise I jumped in the loch and showered when I stayed in the hotel. And plenty of water taps to fill up along the way or purchase :) no long water carries needed!
How did you like the weather in August? And how were the midges?
Weather was great! Maybe a bit of rain but nothing bad. Also quite warm! And the midges were awful on the last 2 days
Beautiful part of the world, always love driving through Scotland in summer and the winter months with the snow covered mountains and the highlands
I would love to see it in winter! Haven’t made the trip up there at that time of year yet but will put it in the books
The drone shots were beautiful. Good work my friend. The second day of 30.1 miles and 48.4 kilometers was very well played. Great video. Further to the above, your choice of music for the score was excellent It had the lovely mix of excitement wonder and sentimentality that rally tugs and the emotion centres. Outstanding work there too my friend.
Thanks! Appreciate the comment 🙌
Thanks man 👊. Appreciate you getting back 🙏
Any time!
⛰️ Thank you man 🥾, that was very helpful 🙏. And well done 💪. I'm about to hike Gran Canaria and Tenerife 🇪🇸🏝️. One question❓- am I going to be able to get my tent pegs ⛺ in the ground somewhere (roughly) at the end of each section❓. Honestly, that is my one concern 🤔. If you, or anyone 😅 could let me know, that'd be extremely comforting 🙏
Hey thanks for the comment! Gran Canaria yes, Tenerife is a bit more difficult on the last section, but there are decent spots outside the national parks, you just have to look and go off the trail a bit more. If you’re open to spending 1 or 2 nights in a hostel then that makes things a lot easier!
Lovely video what time of year did you go and what dates specifically ?
Thanks! I went in early December 2023. On the trail 7th - 12th
Great episode man, area looks so picturesque and simply unique!
Thanks! Appreciate the comment 🙌
Happy New Year Jack. Slàinte mhath. 🥃
Happy new year Dougie!
bro hasnt even been to La Palma literally best part of gr131
More reason to go back again !
I'm going to La Palma in March and eventually I would like to visit all the Canary Islands (so far I have only visited La Gomera and part of Tenerife). There are probably no better destinations in and around Europe for hiking (stable weather, beautiful and varied nature, few people, good food and beer at reasonable prices, ...). In almost everything much better than the Alps.
hahahaha No
It is incredible! Can’t wait to get back to do La Palma
A pity I did not have those tips in 2023, but thx, may one day I repeat the trail. Greetings from Poland, all the best for 2025.
Ah no worries! It's a great trail. Where did you stay when you did it?
@@jackbrookes I had a mixture out of wild camping, camping sides, bothies and hostel: 1st Night: West Highland Way Camp (close to Carbeth / Milgave) 2nd Night: Drymen (The farm outside of the little town) 3rd Night: Wild camping spot on the island of Inchcalloich on the Loch Lomond (Camping Management Zone) 4th Night: the Rowardennan Youth Hostel 5th Night: Doune Byre Bothy 6th Night: Tyndrum campsite 7th Night: Wild camipng spot close to Inveronnan Hotel 8th Night:Wild camping spot at the Kingshouse Hotel 9th Night: A camp site in Kinloch Leven 10th Night: Ben Nevis Camp Site
I too roamed the lands but then I took an arrow to the knee. 😂
Let me guess…someone stole your sweetrole? 🤣
An instant like and subscribe 👌👌👍👍👍👍
Thanks mate 🙌
Thanks a lot! We are planning to do it but don’t want to camp. Is it easy to find hotels hostels b&b’s everywhere?
Yes absolutely, you can stay in a hostel or b&b each night - you pass a town or come close to one at least each day. How many days would you want to do it over?
Thanks for sharing this great video ! Do you think possible to hike this trail with a walking trailer (Radical Design Wheelie) ? Which means basically there is no rocks climbing nor stairs ?
Theres definitely a few stairs - ones that come to mind are on the approach to Loch Lomond and the stairs after Kinlocheven. If you’re willing to skip a few sections then yes definitely!
@ OK thanks ! If they are not no long, the Wheelie has a « back panel » allowing to wear it like a -heavy- backpack..
Great video 🙌
Thanks!
Merry Christmas & happy new year mate! Planning on this hike next April, and will wild camp most of the way. Wanted to treat myself with 2 nights in a bed though (over a 6 day trip), wanted to get your recommendation of places you'd have loved to stay in accom? I.e. after a particularly grueling part of the walk. Cheers!
Hey mate absolutely! Crianlarich hotel is a good spot - it’s one of the areas where I didn’t find to many viable campsites, and it’s about halfway through so it’s ideal for a wash and recharging devices. The other option I would recommend is probably in Kinlochleven - more towards the end of the hike but again a good spot to stay in a hotel
@@jackbrookes Cheers legend, love your work
@@Michael-py3of Anytime mate!
Good vid mate. Can u tell me where exactly you are in the shot at 7.40? Can't figure it out
Thanks mate! It's at the very northern end of Loch Lomond, on the eastern side
Awesome
Thanks!
beautiful video and trek. I can't help but watch and think about all the different histories those lands has seen.
Thanks for the comment! Beautiful place isn’t it. Have you been before?
@jackbrookes no, maybe one day. Till then I'll enjoy my landscapes here in the Caribbean 🌴
Went to tassie but never hiked this. Looks stunning 🤌
Where'd you go in Tassie? I think the whole island is stunning haha but the Overland track certainly is
About to embark on my own overland adventure in a little under a month so I absolutely loved watching this! Informative and beautifully put together 😊
Thanks so much for the nice comment! You will have a great time. Planning to camp or stay in the huts?
Camping for sure!
Why are you using miles?
Majority of people watching this channel are UK and US based
Great to see this! 😀
Thanks! More to come!
Hi Craig.
the OG!!
Stunning💚
Thank you! Cheers!
Hi Jack, thank you so much for the detailed video. Thí is exactly what I am lôking for. I have the same concern regarding the gas to cook. it is really impossible to buy there? I am going to do bike packing tour in Fuerteventura and quiet worry about the probihited wild camping rule. What would be your advice on it?
Hey you're very welcome! I have had a few people comment on some of these videos saying they have found gas at some of the bigger stores on different islands :) I only looked in Lanzarote . Yeah wild camping on Fuerteventura is tricky! It's so exposed. There are quite a few affordable bnb's on the island which I think are a good idea. But I also found most days there were a few wild camping spots - you just have to look around a bit in the hills more in the centre of the island, and set up after sunset / pack down before sunrise etc. How many nights are you going for?
@@jackbrookes ill look into the gas thing. I have some emergency camping food so worst case I won't be hungry. For the camping, I will be cycling 5 days, and if I can camp 2-3 nights, I would be really happy already. By centre of the island, do you lean Antique, Betancuria? I have never wild camped before :D
Sounds good! Yes I think 2-3 nights of wild camping would be fine. Between Betancuria and La Pared is best. Areas outside of this section is generally quite flat, exposed and near towns...What time of the year do you plan to go?
Thx for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Great hike! Really enjoyed the video. What incredible views above those clouds...gorgeous.
Thanks! It’s an incredible place
This was awesome!!
Thank you!!
Great video! When did you hike the trail?
Thanks! I hiked it in July/August of 2022
Thanks lovely jan 2 we will follow
Amazing you’ll have a great time!!
Great videos, love the scenic shots! I'm planning to hike the very first 2 islands with my pal and you definitely persuaded me to start with Lanzarote. I need to drink at least 3-4 litres a day but somehow these desert barren places just amaze me. Happy trails! 🙋♂️
Thanks for the comment! And amazing, you’ll have a great time. Are you wild camping? Regardless will be a great trip !
Hi interested in doing this trail may 25 Would it be better to walk Broadford North rather than how you did it? Phil
Hi Phil. I would play it by ear and keep an eye on the weather reports. If weather is good early in your hike = start up north. Or vice versa if weather is good later on. I’ve had a lot of people say they were happy to do the toughest section (the ridge) towards the start. But each to their own. It will be fantastic either way
Well done. Haste ya back
I need to asap!! 😂
Just did a variation of this. They sell screw on gas cannister in Corralejo at the ferreteria on the main street near the bus stop near SPAR super market.
Great to know!! Thanks
in what month did you hike?
@@BlueDragon00 October
@@bkpktrekker4086 did you have any problem with getting water ?
@@BlueDragon00 no,I always carried 4 liters unless I was passing a larger village. I also asked at a house for some water and at a beach
What a beautiful hike! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for commenting! 👌
Was looking to Buy the copper spur, how tall are you and do you recommend the 1p over 2p?
I’m 6ft1. I’ve never used the 2p, just the 1. It is pretty tight in there, only just enough room to put some of my electronics next to me at head height. Length wise it is great
Nice gear overview. Just fyi....that isn't the jetboil minimo 😉
Good spot! Micromo* 🤦♂️
Hi Jack, I purchased the same tent recently for warmer weather camping abroad and I was always concerned about the pole snapping how did you repair it and what was the long term fix ie perminant repair or replacement, thanks.
Hey! I contacted big Agnes and they were really good about it - they sent me a new tent pole set to replace it :)
To add to this, you can keep a tent pole splint and duct tape in your repair kit for broken poles on the trail (look up a tutorial on pole repair if unsure). Then just contact the manufacturer for a pole segment when you're back home!
Try the Nemo Tensor mats Jack, wide, long, light and they don’t rustle like the NeoAir mats. Glad you enjoyed our little WHW mate. 👌🏼
Cheers Doug! Will check them out. Special place you have up there
@@jackbrookesThank you brother, we certainly think so. Slàinte mhath. 🥃
Looking forward to watching the Cape Wrath Trail. Apparently it's tough.
I’ve heard it’s a slog. Has to be done though 😅
@@jackbrookes It's really remote Scotland. GPS device, just in case.
Nicer overview.
Thanks Garry
@@jackbrookes your WHW overview was excellent. I have forwarded this to many people, when they ask about the WHW. I did the WHW myself shortly afterwards, I found your overview actually quite accurate. It was indeed, not easy. Quite a variation actually. There should be a disclaimer for the Loch Lomond part, that was damn hard work, oh for the luxury of having 20 m of straight path! Anyway, glad you like Scotland. We have a lovely little corner that is so easy to access and use for camping. Nice to see so many people coming from all over the world.
ah finally another video! thank you! Did WHW this summer. IT WAS INCREADIBLE!
They’re coming, slowly 😅 amazing isn’t it!!
Very nice, Jack 🙂
Thanks Petr :)
