You should look at getting the Montbell Versalite as your new windbreaker/rain jacket. We live in a very wet climate (similar to the UK) and that jacket is the best UL rain jacket we've used!
Great stuff Jack! Love your gear selection. In my case I also found that for the terrain (hard soil), climate (5-25C) and style of hiking, a self standing tent and quilt works great. Thanks for sharing!
Like your stuff a lot. Will you be doing any more Scottish trails? Southern Uplands (remote and little water points), Cape Wrath (huge and remote), Great Glen Way (2nd to the West Highland Way, i've heard). Would love to see an Australian hike!
Thanks!! I would absolutely love to. Cape Wrath has always been on my list - I’m waiting for the right time to do it - 4 weeks off work is hard. But it’ll happen in the next 3 years! And I’m currently editing my Overland Australian home 👌
Nice gear video, good editing and audio on your voice over. Not sure if I missed it, but I double checked both the video and your LP, and rain gear seems to be missing? Also, you list your shoes on your LP but don't have them as clothing worn. And did I also miss a compass? Forgive my nitpicks, I am an UL nerd and enjoy these videos and reading LPs. I respect you and many others that haul so much camera gear out there with you. But I am fine with just my phone to snap potato pics and a 3.6kg BPW. Keep up the good work, new subscriber here!
Cheers for the comment Cesar! IMy only rain gear is the windbreaker/spray jacket (at about 04:53). I need to update my LP properly though - seeing how I lug around all that camea gear I think iv'e given up to some extent counting how much i'm carrying 😅 Cheers for the comment though Cesar and thanks for the sub!
Classy well thought out videos jack. Impressed.👍😁..one wee point tho. Ive used all the Big Aggies over the last 10 years, but that TOP short Apex pole goes on TOP of the main pole structure, not underneath, LOL😉.
Totally off-topic: when recording your voice keep the mic more distant. You'll avoid a lot of proximity effect, and I won't get deaf when wearing my earphones lol Very good video and content
Hey Bima I was definitely chilly at 0c! I have to sleep with thermals if it drops below 3-4 normally. For me it’s a summer and late spring/early autumn quilt for sure 👌
love a day-long hike but recently a new interest in camping as well, so this was such a cool walk thru of your gear :) did you have any advice/ tips for beginners doing overnight trips? p.s welcome to aus!
Hey Jade, absolutely! Depends on how far you’re planning to hike? But I would recommend finding what shoes/boots are going to work for you as quickly as you can (trial and error). Try and find a good spot to pitch before sunset so you’re not stressed as the sun is going down. I’d try and go for a tent with a small footprint so if you need to wild/stealth camp it’s a bit easier 👌
@@jackbrookes hi jack, sounds like a plan :-) currently have a new pair of keen's, and definitely will explore locations and equipment - excited to get out! thank u again
Ahh I wanted to do the overland but there’s no spots left for this summer! Looking at the Arthur’s ranges at the moment in the south west. When did you do the overland?
I'm using a lot of the same gear as you. Pad. Quilt. Clothing items etc. What size Atom packs would you recon I should acquire if you left out drone and camera equipment?
Hey K.O - cheers for the comment. I would love a 35-40L atom pack if I didn't have all my camera gear. I think the main factor will be your tent and how much food/water you like to carry. What's your current pack size?
@@jackbrookes Hi there. I have a Hyberg Bandit. I think it's 29L internal volume. My tent is the SMD Lunar Solo. I mostly do smaller trips ie. 1-2-3 nights. Thank you for replying. Cheers.
@@jackbrookes thanks! I like the Lunar Solo. Plenty of space. I even use it with my rather large dog. Everything below treeline in Scandinavia, 3 seasons is fine. 👍

I’ve heard great things about it! I’ve been looking at that and Berghaus. Do you find the Versalite quite durable?

Blimey o'reily, you have to be pretty well off to go hiking these days. That lot costs a small fortune.
😂😂 you can do it way cheaper. Lots of good budget hiking gear videos on RUclips
First 15% of the video sets you back over a grand

What's are you going to thru hike ?
Next one will likely be cape wrath trail in Scotland!
Which hike in aus !?
COnsidering the Arthur's Range in south west Tas! Have you done much in Aus?
Awesome
Cheers mate
I really want to go to the middle of Iceland
Definitely need to get there! Incredible place
You never said the weight of your gear
That I didn’t! I’ll make sure to include it in my next one 👌
I really don’t like the “Craig Adams” hoody. Stinks quickly, not very light. Absorbs liquid and not that comfy.
Completely agree - gets smelly way too quickly
@Joshua Davis cheers Josh! Will check it out

That camera setup cost a fortune ! Hiking is not what it's used to be..
Just because I have it doesn’t mean you need to have it to go hiking 😂
Kathmandu isn’t Aussie, it’s a kiwi company ;)
Thanks for letting me know! I’ll make a note in the comments :)
Also, everything is made in China then just rebranded. I couldn't believe it when I went into one of their stores.
calling Kathmandu an Australian brand smh
You can have it 😂
You're not a real thru hiker unless you have crocs
Need to get me some 😂
You really got the gear down to a science.
Where you get your money?
Working?
