    The Xpan is a very cool camera. I'd love to have one. BUT the hang-up for me is more than just the current price (which is high) It's the fact that in 2024, if you spend $4k-$5k to get the used Xpan, and anything goes wrong with the thing, there's a very good chance you end up with a very expensive brick. There is no product support or parts supply for the Xpan or TX at this point. I'm not wealthy enough to pay that kind of money, and not be stressed out when using the camera.

    For anyone trying to test one of these without having film: you can manually turn the gear in the back until it clicks. If you try turning the spool and it won't turn, that's a good sign you've cocked the shutter. If it turns, you havent cocked the shutter. You kinda gotta manhandle the gear to get it to turn, but it's doable. If you get one with a slow/sticky shutter, it's possible to try to service it at home and may be worth it if you can find one for cheap. Chris Sherlock has a whole series showing him doing it. Just be VERY careful and take lots of pictures during the process so you don't lose any parts and you know how to put it back together.

    • @CrunchyFingers
      @CrunchyFingers 6 месяцев назад

      That’s a spot light-meter, it’s basically a scope that you can look through and it has little screen that shows different numbers representing the light values. It helps you dial in your camera settings manually. You can also use your smartphone, just download any light meter app, I use one called “Lux” on iPhone

    I'd tried this in my G690 a few times with mixed results. I decided to try again recently. The one thing I did differently this time was instead of using toothpicks to support the film canister so it doesn't bind up, I used a piece of tape to hold the canister back. It's kind of difficult to explain without a picture but basically put the canister in the same position it would be if the toothpicks were in place and then put a strip of tape from the canister top to the edge of the camera. So far it's worked fantastically! Also since I don't care about film borders I got a mask from eTone. Makes me worry less about film flatness.

    • @CrunchyFingers
      @CrunchyFingers 7 месяцев назад

      I’m glad you’re having fun with it and finding your own solutions! I think the mask is a really good addition but at the time they were not available at my local camera store. Maybe I’ll give it another go someday

    Thank you for this video! Where did you source the 3d printed part? Or do you have the stl file?

    • @CrunchyFingers
      @CrunchyFingers 8 месяцев назад

      Hey Jimmy here! Unfortunately as far as I know the maker doesn’t provide an stl file, we bought it directly from him, and iirc he was very hesitant to sell it to us since as you can see in the video it’s not very straightforward to assemble. He wanted it to sell a fully assembled kit. But after some convincing he sold us the part alone since we already had a broken instax camera. It was Eva who contacted him so I’ll ask her if she still has his contact info. I don’t know if he’s still making them but I think you can find out more info if you search for zintax and look through Reddit if nothing more obvious comes up!

    Very nice video review of the camera! I actually have an option of purchasing one of these cameras at a great price. I'm a little concerned that the T III cannot interchange parts with later models (from what I hear) but it really looks like a nice camera. I would really need to know how to look the camera over to determine if it needs servicing or bellows but I'm still interested. The one I'm looking at has several film holders a viewfinder and three lenses. The 90mm & 150mm and one larger lens that are included. Again, I would need to see the condition of all components.

    also for hand held or press use, you can take that plate off (locks in each corner, only apear when you turn the back 45 deg. ) and fit a super rollex film holder (120; 56x72 format), NOT the cine rollex!, this takes 70 mm film in cartridges (like the cannon and nikon 250 bulk backs), so don't get this by mistake. these have the requisite ring, to which the corner locks grab this back. this acts quazi like the grafmatic holders, but a bit more bulbous.

    In regards to shooting 35mm with adapters, what exactly happens with the finished roll? There’s no reverse option like on a point & shoot for example so is the exposed 35mm film wound up in a 120 spool? Thank you.

    The Hasselblad Xpan and the Fuji GFX 35mm panoramic cameras produce images with a 24x65mm aspect ratio on 35mm film. I use the following cameras to produce panoramic images on 35mm film: 24x68mm aspect ratio on Fuji 6x7cm medium format rangefinder camera with 90mm normal lens. 24x68mm aspect ratio on Mamiya RB67 medium format SLR camera with 50mm or 90mm lenses. 24x90mm aspect ratio on Fuji 6x9cm medium format rangefinder camera with 65mm wide-angle lens. 24x120mm aspect ratio on Holga 6x12cm Panoramic Camera with 90mm f/8 lens. 24x127mm aspect ratio on 4x5 inch view camera with 135mm, 90mm, or 65mm lenses. Since my cameras do not use electronics or batteries, they are likely to have less problems than the battery dependent and electronic Hasselblad and Fuji panoramic cameras.
