    I found this camera at home! The AA-batteries inside had leaked, but after 2 days of cleaning the metal parts with q-tips and vinegar I finally got it working!! Can't wait to try it out :) Hopefully I'll be going to Japan this spring, so definitely gonna be on the lookout for those Fjui premium rolls. Thanks for such an informative video!

    Great summary of this little thing. I've had quite a few of the older Konica compact and I've never met one I didn't love (except for some of the later 80s versions made by Cosina aren't so great) .... Contrasty, great color, super sharp. It's funny that more people do not discover these and instead spend all their time lusting after a T2 or other super "popular" models.

      Right??? I’m the same - there are so many affordable awesome cameras that need a home.. why to expend unjustified money on one just cause a celeb had it... 🤦🏻‍♀️ this one really surprised me, and now I’ll love it forever!

    • @therealchickentender
      @therealchickentender 3 года назад +1

      @@CrunchyFingers Definitely! I think some of it is the celeb appeal, but it's also just a high-priced top-shelf camera of it's day (that T2)... I actually have one which belonged to my grandfather, but honestly I've never liked it a whole lot - it's quite heavy and compact and the grip is uncomfortable to me - it just feels sort of impersonal to shoot. Meanwhile I've an old Rollei 35, a cheap Pentax PC35 and 3 different Konica C35 types and I like them ALL more than the T2 (and the Konicas make better images for sure).
      The first one I got was also a hand-me-down (the EF one you show here) which was my late grandmother's camera! I didn't use it for at least a year because it seemed to toy-like and plasticy, but when I finally got the first roll back from the lab I was *shocked* at how amazing the frames from it were. Those little Hexanon lenses are fabulous. :)

      @CrunchyFingers  2 года назад

      Ey thank you! I haven’t yet tried the double exposure… but it’s something in the wish list for sure! But in principle it should for sure come as a double exposure because with that trick you cock the shutter without advancing the film! If you ever try before we do, please let us know what you get!

    • @CrunchyFingers
      @CrunchyFingers  4 года назад +3

      @Irene Millano Hey! yes, before every shot the film wind lever is used to move the film to the next frame and cock the shutter to make the camera ready to take a picture. Hope you have fun shooting! ☺️

  • @shielasaria8976
    @shielasaria8976 3 года назад

    Your video is very informative :)
    one question, I have the same camera as well and the film rewind crank isn’t moving every time I pull the film wind lever. Is it something I should worry about? or it wont affect the film as long as the film counter is moving? it’ll be a big help answering my question :)))

    • @CrunchyFingers
      @CrunchyFingers  2 года назад

      Hi shiela! If your crank isn’t moving it most likely mean that the film is not being advanced, even if the film counter goes up (I’ve tested the camera without film and I the counter advances every time I take a shot until I open it again, so the counter is not connected to the film advance per se). I suspect that your film didn’t latch well if you don’t see the film rewind crank moving when you use the film winder. If this is not the case then your film winder is somehow broken and doesnt move the film. Hope you get to fix this issue and shoot with the camera! Cheers!

    Hello! Can I ask if you used the flash when you took photos at night here 12:51 13:02 cause I bought this very camera but the flash isn't working. I would love to take night photos like that as well so please answer me. Thank you so much!

    • @CrunchyFingers
      @CrunchyFingers  3 года назад +3

      Hi Chrislie! No, no flash was used in those photos! If one use flash on those kind of pictures one would get very dark pics because the flash is not strong enough to light up very far away subjects like the buildings and people in the street. I actually never used the flash with this camera yet, you’ll get great pictures!! wish you lots of fun with it ☺️☺️

    Love this video! How would you compare this to a Minolta Hi-Matic AF 2? Im torned between these 2!

    • @CrunchyFingers
      @CrunchyFingers  4 года назад +4

      Hi! thanks for commenting, glad you enjoy this video. Regarding your question, we don't have a Minolta Hi-Matic AF but we did some research for you and here’s what we think
      They are similar in many aspects like the focal lenght (38mm), aperture (2.8 max aperture), built in flash, self timer and they even look almost identical. However the Minolta has a autofocus function, although primitive since it was one of the first cameras having but it’s rather impressive if it works properly, in the view finder there are light indicators to tell you if you’re focusing on a near or far object, on the other hand the Konica you have to set the focus manually using the zone system, it’s can be hard in the beginning but once you learn it you can apply that knowledge with any other camera.
      Also, both are automatic cameras and neither the aperture nor shutter speed can be manually changed, the Konica tells you what aperture is going to shoot at and you can lock it by half-pressing the shutter to recompose or control your depth of field. The Minolta will beep at you if you the subject is too dark or too close.
      I would say it comes down to why you want the camera, if you want to improve your zone focusing skills the Konica is a beautiful camera, but if you are a bit unsure about estimating distances and just want to point and shoot and have those sweet film tones you can go for the Minolta, both are great and I wish you’ll be happy with whatever you choose 💕
      /Eva & Jimmy

      Thank you so much for the reply 🥺 I really appreciate it!! From your response.. I guess the Konica would be a better choice? Also because I've read up that some people who shot using the Hi-Matic still ended up w blurry films 💔 I used to have a canonet but the process of focusing was a pain for me.. I prefer my Olympus trip haha

    • @CrunchyFingers
      @CrunchyFingers  4 года назад +1

      @@nurfadhilah3723 ohhh! if you have an Olympus trip then you are already acquainted with using zone focusing in your camera, so I would indeed recommend the Konica. People getting blurry shots with the Minolta can mean that the autofocus is not so reliable, as it is old and probably not so accurate. I personally love the canonets but using rangefinders it is a completely different thing. Let us know how it goes with your new camera, wishing you the best 🤗

    • @nurfadhilah3723
      @nurfadhilah3723 4 года назад

      @@CrunchyFingers yeah my Olympus trip works fine! (If not for the fact that it's aperture blade is stuck 😞) okay!! I'll check the Konica C35 range out! Thank you so so much!!! Hope you guys are well and stay safe ♥️

      You mean the shop where I bought the film in Tokyo? I don’t remember the name, but it was around the shibuya crossing, maybe you can look around there. As for films the one I talk there, the Fuji superia 400 is very nice and affordable, otherwise I am a big fan of Fuji pro 400h (a bit more expensive) or Kodak pro image (but not sure if it’s sold where you are at!) good luck and hope you enjoy a lot your c35EF! 🥰

      For all analog cameras, after the film has been exposed it needs to be developed before any pictures can be seen! Be careful to never open the camera while it has film inside before it’s winded back to the canister! Good luck!

      And how much was the Voigtlander film cam from your last video???

    • @CrunchyFingers
      @CrunchyFingers  4 года назад +1

      Well the Vito B was a very unusual thrift find for us, just 5 dollars, because the store didn’t really know how to test if it was working. I would recommend not to go super cheap and get a somewhat good camera that will be reliable and give you good results while you learn. I would say somewhere between 50-100 dollars is a good budget!

      Hi! you can point your camera at different places with more or less light (towards a light, and then towards a dark pillow for example) and you should see the needle in the right side moving up and down. Then it means is reading the different light conditions and working. Good luck! :)
