    Thanks for the great tips and info. Yes, I am also thinking about smaller board, but not sure if it's worth doing yet, or what to get. I have a Starboard wing board 115ltr full carbon 6.3 length and also Starboard wing board 100ltr 5.2 length lightech. The longer board is lighter than the shorter board, but there's a BIG difference on the getting up and going, where the big 115ltr board gets up easy and fast, where the smaller board takes more effort and require pumping. When you're up on the foil, the small board feels nicer to ride, but that's it, nothing other than that. The big board I have been out on 45 mph winds at sea, and its fine. So, the big question is, do I really need a smaller board, or is it media hype, or I'm I better to invest money on upgrading the foil or wings, rather than the board. Many thanks, Great drone footage

    • @christomo
      @christomo 14 дней назад

      I did go for a body weight board in the end I went for 95 liters for my 95kg it's a very nice board and would not go back and have sold my other 120l board .personally I will not go less 95L so less than my body weight as if the wind dies its to hard to slog in from 1mile offshore . Your smaller 100 l board sounds good just perseverance with that and getting up on foil, pumping with legs and arms will get easy eventually its just time on water. Get a smaller board when you start to land tacks and have gybes 100%success. Best money is spent on front foils to make a quiver for light and strong winds

    • @christomo
      @christomo 15 дней назад

      @grantmacdonald4838 I found the v2 fluid 42 to be a bit more glide and more stable as its longer if you want a bit more front foot pressure try moving your foil forward a bit 5cm at a time and make your stance smaller this helped me . • @christomo
      @christomo 14 дней назад

      @grantmacdonald4838 the curve h is so good for glide and low end and so stable its still my wing of choice by far . V2 curve is great if you have solid waves with shape or curve h for lumps and bumps and windswell. I do have a veloce v3 on order so I'll make a video when it arrives

    • @grantmacdonald4838
      @grantmacdonald4838 14 дней назад

      @@christomo I was mainly talking about the stabilizer since the Fluid H 42 is just a little unstable for me and seems to give up flying before the wing actually runs out of lift. If I get way back on the board it'll keep going just in a very unstable way. The V3 stuff is very interesting with the new Curve stabilizers looking almost like the V2 Sirius? I'm tempted by a Veloce HDW XL for a light wind wing, all we have is open ocean windswell. The HDW looks like it can actually turn while having a lot of glide. It might pair well with my V2 Fluid tail to loosen it up. Lots to mix and match with no way to try before you buy plus expensive shipping on small items.

    Hi, thanks for this video. My weight is 72kg and I want to buy a curve H and a curve normal fluid. I sail in 10 to 22 kts, with small swell in mediterranea sea. I have a 3m, 5m and 6.5m wings. Do you recommend me a xl curve H for 10 to 16kts and a L normal curve for 14 to 22 kts? Or different sizes? Thanks a lot!

    • @christomo
      @christomo 19 дней назад

      @ernestsentis personally I would get curve h xl for lower winds and curve h large or medium for higher winds I hardly use my normal verve as the swell waves are more fun on a more glide front wing so H the normal curve is only better to tight turn and when wave has some shape to surf for windswell 2 to 4ft curve h is better by far for me . I use shorter freestyle stab to make the h more agile as well

    • @ernestsentis
      @ernestsentis 17 дней назад

      @@christomo Thanks a lot! So, for your opinion it's better to have the curve H in all conditions. Because you dont' use your normal curve front wing usually, because curve H it glides better in waves. I will try with the curve H in L size with it's own stab.

    • @christomo
      @christomo 17 дней назад

      @ernestsentis yes exactly 💯 curve h more glide for my conditions. I have friends who live and ride propper 6ft swell with shape and they like the normal lower aspect curve v2 as it turned better . So it depends on kind of waves you have . Hope that makes sense. Great review😊. Not surprised at all that you decided to stay put. I’d never ever go back to aluminum masts after riding HM carbon. When you factor in the cost of an equivalent Axis or F-One (or most of the other of the leading brands) the numbers just can’t compete with Gong. Especially here in the US where we only pay shipping in lieu of Vat tax. What did you get for a stabilizer to go with your new front wing? I’m using the freestyle stabilizers with my V2 Veloce’s and I like them better due to the shorter fuselage length I’ll be anxious to know what you think of the V3 Veloce XL H. That will likely be my first choice as well (in L size since I’m 75 kg). I’ll also commit to the V3 fuselage (hm 85 at 14 cm). Not sure which stab I’ll go for but likely the Veloce stab. It adds up but it’s my one big retirement hobby so im not feeling too guilty😂. Also think the V2 85 HM mast and V2 Veloce’s will sell pretty easy (at the right price)

    • @christomo
      @christomo Месяц назад

      @targadave yes Dave I looked at a few options ,I purchased the v3 veloce in Xl and stab veloce v3 in large and the titanium fuselage for v2 mast to fit it all together with my v2 86HM . This was still a cheaper price for the full plaine than most brands' front wings alone .The gong wings are so much stiffer as well .Some of the foils from Leading brands fly so nice but such a high price for a different feeling that I wouldn't say was better or worse just different and so many options to choose in all brands something for us all. IM TOLD that The overall length of the gong v3 is shorter than the v2 with freestyle stab, so I was informed to go with veloce stab. I went for large to keep loose and hope I have ordered correctly. More to follow first look on arrival and first few flights and in-depth review after a months riding. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have an amazing weekend

But the affordability of an HM mast and full system would be a vast expense. I am happy that the standout was how stiff my system is. Nice swell! Looks like all the main brands are doing constant foil upgrades to these higher performance levels. I’m fine with the technology moving forward since we all can decide if/when to upgrade. I’m pretty sure I’ll upgrade to the new system. I’ll do the new mast (14mm) first and sell my current HM85. The new aluminum fuselages are all pretty cheap so I can do adapters to my current V2 Veloce’s and V2 stabs. I’ll wait and see how the V3 foils play out and most likely upgrade there as well. If I was on a tighter budget I’d have no issue sticking with my current foil rig. I haven’t switched to a skinny mid length board yet either.

    • @christomo
      @christomo Месяц назад

      @targadave yes the new foils and connection look good I keep pricing a new xl veloce and fuse stab really can't afford it tho haha I also need a 3.5m wing for this winter love a dw board the list is long , and no mid-length here just can't find funds . I've always found a front wing to make the most difference on a set up , so I'm interested why you are going to change mast first and not v2 mast adapter to v3 front and v2 back to use existing stabs or v2 mast v3 front and v3 back . Ty mate

    • @targadave
      @targadave Месяц назад

      @@christomo I’m not really sure which V3 front wing I want to upgrade to. Want to see more reviews first. I was also thinking that they were going to be introducing some more V3 front wings as well. Figured I’d just start with the mast first. I’m a firm believer in ultra stiff low drag HM masts. Also here in the US we pay a duty fee for purchases over $800 usd (at least I think it’s $800). So cheaper not to buy everything at once. Either way I’m not in a rush. My current setup works great, and it’s not like this new gear is going to suddenly make us older blokes ride 10x better🤣

    Hi Chris. I compared the Veloce XLH V2 and V3 frontwings. The dimensions are about the same. Gong says you can go 200cm2 lower for the same lift with V3 compared to V2. But Gong also says: an XL is an XL. From V1 to V2 indeed the area was made less for an XL, but from V2 to V3 I still see 1150cm2. Of course the shape of the Veloce is new and more in line with competitors, but I am not convinced of major improvements. About the fuse: it would give 12% more glide...... I think they mean that that the rounded shape has 12% less resistance than the square one. I believe that but how much is that in the total resistance of the complete foil? Almost nothing. I will hang on to V2 for the coming year :-)

    • @christomo
      @christomo Месяц назад

      @watercrazylion yes I feel the same as you and happy with what I have, but I will probably get something next year as funds allow, I agree with your statement of less resistance in fuse its all good marketing I'm sure the pros can feel the difference but not sure i would 👍over next few years we will slowly move over no doubt,an ever changing sport . Loved reading your opinion 👌 good winds speak soon. I'm sure the general rule would still be a large is a large and a small is a small and some of the models wings have dropped in area some have thicker profiles and reduced spans but I'm pretty sure the model would be same , otherwise it would be to confusing the statement can take a foil smaller would probably be in reference to some models smaller large v2 vs v3 at a guess marketing blurb that's confusing. However im just guessing and not 100%

      Oops. You are right regarding changes. The Veloce XL did not change in area but the Fluid XL did, from 1500cm2 in V2 to 1160 in V3! That is a major change!

    I think the reason people will still need to buy v2 foils, is all the beginner & advanced foils are still v2 right? ( X-over, curve, veloce, fluid). But if buying a carbon mast they might want to just straight to v3 mast.

    Oh gosh. A new system. It's good and bad I guess. I don't think there is a titanium fuselage that allows you to use v2 mast with v3 foil. Only alu. But in an IG story from Patrice it appears that you can sand the bottom of your v2 mast to make it a v3 mast (and thus fit it in the new v3 titanium fuselage). He said only 2 min of sanding!? The shapes must be very similar.

    • @christomo
      @christomo Месяц назад

      Yes sanding will round it off so it fits i also saw his post , however i did see a titanium fuselage in the v2 mast option only for the v3 stab and v3 front wings i double checked . that would be the one i would go for i think . thanks for watching and commenting . good winds buddy

    nice bud! interesting they are making all those different fuse options! and I didn't know alum masts have a tendency to break... makes a lot more sense as we are putting bigger loads on them than when we kite foiled. I wonder how the flex on ti is compared to alum.

    • @christomo
      @christomo Месяц назад

      @OCEANBOUND1 the part that breaks it the fuselage seen it on a few brands as the metal fatigues the titanium fuselage will not break it is so stiff it would not bend . But titanium is heavy buy ok in a small section as in the fuse also it is hollow to reduce weight . All the fse options are to make it compatable with all the older masts front wings and rear foils however who would buy a new version mast and put old wings on it i just dont see it but each to there own .Thanks for watching bud 👍 have a awesome weekend

    I was thinking about buying a new front wing, with HM mast , titanium fuselage. And i would like your opinion if you don't mind. I am the same weight as you and my regular spot is around 12-14 knots most of the time. I have the X-over XXL (2050cm2) and i contacted sales of gong they told me next reasonable step would be Curve H. Right now i am working on my jibes and i have been successful 1-2 times / session i guess. What do you think about the Curve H? Also which size do you recommend? I was thinking about 1300 or 1600 , while the X-Over i will try to sell it soon enough so it will not be included in my quiver. Even if i should wait for the new fuselage + wings i would like your input here. Thank you in advance.

    • @christomo
      @christomo Месяц назад

      @izno-r2y hope you are well. Thanks for watching. I can be riding on the curve h xxl from 12 to 20kn and curve h xl from 15kn to 25kn. I use both with a large size freestyle stab to shorten fuse and liven them up , with a 86 cm mast and titanium fuse . For lower winds, I would be tempted to say xxl curve h. I would maybe say to wait to see what new wings are like, I am guessing next few weeks for release 😀. I'm my opinion. The xxl xover won't be holding you back from doing jibes and perseverance learning another 5 sessions to dial them in won't hurt . Try a second-hand kite stab or a small fluid stab to liven the xover up while you wait to decide on the new wing update . However, the curve h in xl is my favourite foil so far in a good wind. Low stall speed gets up early and glides well . Hope this helps some .

      @christomo Месяц назад

      Just a note I had the xover v1 xxl and when I bought the curve h xl I never used the xover again It was 1 session to get used to the curve h as you have to generate a little more forward speed to fly Hope it helps

      @@christomo Yeah i don't mind using the X-over a little more. I am just a little eager for the next step :) Based on your wind ranges i guess Curve H XXL would be more appropriate for my spot. I will comment here so I would remind you of our conversation. You were right about the new system in the end. Right now though, they kinda changed the surface area and as they said "On average you can go for 200 cm2 less surface area than with the previous generation for equal lift." So in regards of the previous XXL curve h which was 1600cm2 now we have again the XXL with 1370+200? So I should stick in your opinion with 2xl or shall I move with 3xl? I will also ask the contract support, but I would like also your opinion here. Great video once again and thank you for your time.
