It is a shame that this video is not very out-of-date. I would like to know that as a new Children's book author if I would be best off working and listing on Draft to Digital. Is Smashwords still in existence on line.

Does anyone on this thread understand Plagiarism, and the laws surrounding it? Her issue was not the omega-verse concept, there were parts of L.E’s book that was almost word for word! As a writer who works really hard, why should she tolerate it? It baffles me how ignorant people can be, that would p*ss any one off. The rules around plagiarism are in place for this reason! People are too quick to shoot her down. Her publishing house also wanted to pursue the case, you can find the comparable passages that caused the problem.. it was obvious that parts of the story had been copied!

I literally just read The Other Eight a few weeks ago! I loved that book! I wish you would make it a squeal as it was one of my favorite books I've read so far this year! But seeing as how it's 10 years old and this podcast is 5 years old, I won't hold my breath. But it was so funny! Gracias cracked me up! Johnny on the Spot was perfect for the cover, once you understand!

So true, and excellent advice from experienced authors here! those in KU in my genre are dominating money and earnings wise those who get dogmatic about wide for the win. It’s more like wide for a small fraction of the money you could be making due to being dogmatic. If that is what people want that is up to them but they will make no where near the money that those who are in KU are making in our fantasy sub genre. I get it because I wanted to go wide too but realized my sub-genre is in KU. So I like Lindsay will start KU for new stuff and take wide over time. Because I am not headstrong over what the market wants for good income.

Thank you following this advice joe and others Do exactly this now going to do what joe suggested writing my first 3 fantasy books and will rapid release them with this strategy suggested by you all and Jo and see how it goes as a debut first series! My author landing page for beta readers is already at 204 subscribers and I am still writing my first chapters of book 1! You can totally build a list before you have written anything! Marketing is my background online so that part is working out well before I even have anything written so I have a solid email list day one to launch to!

Yay! I love your podcasts! I really derived value from this one. The point about uneven edits hit home. Not because of revisiting the same chapter over and over again, but sometimes when I try to push through one more chapter when revising, and I've passed the point where I've depleted my allotted amount of focus, it's like I may as well have been editing drunk. ;) Putting editing notes in while writing is something that I feel has helped me since I started doing it (three-ish books ago). I use in line comments to make notes as I draft. Often it's things I want to double check previous chapters to fact check, or if I name a new character (or worse, don't name a character; that gets a note every time I should be using the nameless character's name). The other trick is to give each chapter a brief description in the heading so If I need to review what was said in a conversation twenty chapters ago, it's easier to find. I also found your updates inspiring. I'm glad that Andrea's back to wring after the challenges you had to overcome this last year. That Joe's turned to putting down words as solace from external stress and is being creative to find those little pockets of time to write. And for Lindsay to decide she has too much going on, and take a couple months off? Yes! Take that breather. Then to get on the podcast and matter-of-factly, give us updates, revealing you've decided to tackle the issues? That takes bravery. Having struggled with health issues, balancing work and writing and reaching that point of overwhelm where creativity gets zapped, I find it comforting to know that these are the type of problems we face as writers, and that there are ways to overcome them. Thank you so much for sharing.

I’m a prolific author, but I don’t write every day. I usually write 4 days a week when I’m writing. I rarely write on weekends. I’m not making insane money like some other authors, but I’m making more money every month than the month before. I wrote longhand when I first started writing. I wrote a ton of books by hand that I still haven’t typed out. I tried dictating, but I didn’t like it.
