Sight casting STACKED winter REDFISH! Inshore kayak fishing
This was a cold clear day with temps in the 30's. During high tide, the redfish were finding warmth in mud flat shallows right off the main river. I was able to get some awesome video while I hunted them down!

Agreed!! What editing program do you use?
Premier pro
@CurrentAngling Cool. I use Davinci Resolve. It has some pretty cool features.
I support the drone work! Good learning for learning and teaching which is what is going on.
Absolutely! It’s priceless to review the video and see the reaction to my lure. What stands out is from how far away they sense the bait in these conditions.
Awesome footage and video brother. I caught a 27 and 31 on the wandoo a few weeks ago in the shallow flats like that.
It’s certainly a fun way to catch em. Looking at the video there were some tanks on the flat. I guess I caught the babies
Great footage, Corey! Looks like a good day out there. That water was super clear too!
Thanks dude! I appreciate ya!
probably one of my favorite videos you've put out…lots of learning here! i need to get off of the bank fishing here in W. Ash and get back in my kayak! i just need to find a wingman!
Thanks! That means a lot! I’ve been struggling to find time to make consistent videos. I’m hoping I can get one out every other week (minimum) in 2025.
Well, done! Way to put the work in!!
Thanks Jack! As you know, most the work is on the back end in editing
Sweet video. I love the drone shots. I’ve been wanting to shoot with a drone for a while now. Hopefully soon. Keep up the good work!
It’s fun but also risky business! I few months ago I lost one to the water. I usually launch and land from the kayak which isn’t ideal but I do what I have to do. Thanks for watching!
@ that is the only reason I have been hesitant. I would say it only a matter of time until it takes the plunge.
@Paddlesandpoles I’ve naught used off marketplace and kept to older but still very functional models like DJI mini 2 and now mavic 2
@ I have my eyes on the dji mini 4K. Seems like the right price for something that will basically always be over water.
@Paddlesandpoles yep! Sounds about right! Snatch it out of the sky with confidence 🫡
That was cool dude!
Thanks man !
Like the view that the Insta 360 gives… Love the drawing footage also keep up the good work…
Thanks Mike! I’m actually trying to simplify my filming set up so post edit is easier. The 360 with a wired mic might be the right tool. I hope to publish significantly more videos in 2025.
After watching the drone footage I realized that I was working my lure too fast for the first few failed attempts on the flats. I only caught them by leaving the lure where it landed, only twitching it occasionally.
@@CurrentAngling I’ve been wanting to get out and do some saltwater fishing. I thought the temperatures were a little bit too cold right now for this area I guess not since you’re catching them up on the flats may have to go this coming weekend and give it a try.
I think in really cold clear days they get out over these type of areas because that water warms up the fastest in the sunlight.
@@CurrentAngling I may head down to Pawley’s Island this weekend and give it a try
That sounds fun I hope you get on em!
Great video! On average how many fish do you catch this time of year? I love Charleston Fishing
I certainly have more time between catches this time of year. What the video doesn’t show was a couple hours with no bites. Cold temps brings the redfish together so 99.99% of the water is empty. For me it’s about covering ground and finding them. This time of year I might average maybe 4-10 fish for a half day. Maybe more if I can find the trout. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
Love your videos!! I'm from Michigan and soon will living in ladson south Carolina. Saltwater fishing is all new to me, I'm watching your videos to learn where to go and what to use. These are very helpful!! Thank you, hopefully one day we will run into each other out there.
Thanks! This was actually my first Yt video! Fishing out here is awesome, you will love it! Cheers!
Zman for the win
Dead stick with small twitches in this cold water! Zman ftw!
Loving the videos. Keep it up!

I did with but a heavy assist of my rod ! 😆
The banana myth debunked.
💯
Loving the videos! I’m primarily a freshwater bass fisherman but I’m in town visiting and trying to get after a few reds! Hopefully I’ll find a few before heading out!
I hope you were able to find some! It can be difficult in December but they are around and eating! I think I’m going to hit up some bass lakes this spring! Thanks for watching!
@ didn’t have any luck but still enjoyed it! If you end up near Lake Chickamauga give me a shout and I’ll give you some info. I also have tons of videos on here of fishing it. Thanks again!
What kayak is that??
I was going to ask the same question
It’s a hobie oasis. Tandem kayak I mainly use with my daughter.
That probably was a big ass turtle I was fishing once and got hooked up like that and it was a turtle the dice of a stop sign shit was big and had fins instead of feet I got scared because I knew it was a protected creature
Great job
Amazing! Was that out at the jetties out by the Charleston Harbor?
I guess this is an oldie but goodie. Thanks Cory. This helps a lot to help me figure out the colder water this winter. Hope we get a chance to fish together now that I've moved to MP and have joined LKA. I've got access to a neighborhood boat ramp on Hobcaw Creek, so let me know if you want to hook up to do some fishing! I'm a converted freshwater to saltwater kayak fisherman now! Can't beat that redfish bite!
Thank man! I think we will definitely cross paths soon! I haven’t been on the water in a couple weeks and am itching to get on it. Most likely going to target speckled trout for lka toys for tots. Cheers!!
Thanks!
Thank you so much! Happy holidays!
Hey Corey, just curious if you have any recommendations on some goto winter-wear when on the yak? Thanks!
Hey! I don’t have any specific clothing options but can make a solid suggestion. Pack a large waterproof bag in your hatch. In the bag have a large dry towel, a change of clothing and a jacket. This is your insurance incase you make a mistake and fall into the water. When water and air temps are low you can be in trouble real quick if you don’t think ahead and have a way to dry off and get warm.
@ Thanks for that idea! I got my dry bag ready to go!
Love the videos. Especially living in Charleston! I’m thinking of getting into kayak fishing and would love some tips
I’ve only fished freshwater my entire life and recently moved to Charleston. Thanks almost entirely to you I caught my first inshore slam last weekend! Thank you for the informational videos and keep it up! I look forward to every one
Went to Paradise Island Landing this past weekend with the kayaks after watching this video man, wore the redfish out!!! I appreciate it! Great video!🤙🏼
Great video brother!! Thank you for your service!! Sorry the late response but I never get notified!! Frustrating ..Keep up the great work...Onward and Upward!!
Thanks! Yeah it’s not notifying people. I appreciate yours support! Follow my instagram I try to promote new videos there. instagram.com/current_angling/profilecard/?igsh=NG5sdWJocDJqZTV0. I’m currently in Arizona on one of the best mule deer hunts in the world. Hoping to made a really cool hunting video!
Congratulations, I must have watched that run about ten times. Awesome
PESCA sin muerte 👍👍👍👏👏👏
Dude, that thing was huge
Used to put in at folly rd. to go to Edisto ledge.
Been there and done that.
What area are you fishing
This is the wando river near Charleston
What weather are you looking for to kayak out there?
Calm surf, - 2’ swell more than 7s apart. Outgoing tide on way out, incoming on the way back. No chance of Ts
man I'm still waiting on my invite/guided tour lol!!
Great video my brother you and Christian do well together. I haven't ventured out to the jetties here yet in my new yak
Great job!
Great video Corey! Really cool footage with the drone shots and that new 360 cam. Hopefully the weather clears up and we can all get out there again soon!
Thanks dude, it was certainly a day to remember. Always enjoy fishing w/ ya!
I knew you were sitting on some good footage.haha Good stuff man! We need to meet out at Paradise sometime.
Hah yes I was! This edit was time consuming because of the new 360 cam perspective. Hope the periodic 3rd person perspective was welcomed!
Paradise for sure!
@@CurrentAngling Yeah, it looks awesome!
Another great video. What size reel and rod is the toadfish?
It’s a 7’2 med weight xfast action. With 2500 size reel. Had no problem with that first redfish on artificial! I believe toadfish is having a big sale rn. Also help me out by using code “current15” if you check their stuff out.
Enjoyed this video and learned a few things that should help my fishing. Am looking for a net similar to what you used here. Long handle and easy on fish for release.
That was very well done! Great stuff bud.
Fluke not a flounder😊
Not in the south!
Curious about the advantages of the circle hook and split shot over just a jig head under the cork? Or what conditions would dictate using one over the other
Great question. The jig head is more convenient but i’ll only do this if I’m holding the rod in my hands and can set the hook as soon as I feel the smallest bite. The jig head hook gets swallowed easily then you end up gut hooking the fish. The circle hook can be fished much more passively. If a fish swallows it it’s much more likely to slide out of its stomach and get hooked around their jaw. It’s important while using a circle hook to not set the hook, but instead Real down or let the fish “hook” themselves and start pulling while rod is in holder.
That was a very informative video. Thanks for helping us all out with the tips and advice. I noticed you didn't i clue Garris Landing in Awendaw by Bulls Island Ferry. Curious if there is a reason , Paradise just a better fishing option maybe ?
That’s a great place! I just didn’t include because I was trying to keep them in or near Charleston. Paradise was the furthest I recommended.
Where is this im trying to find new fishing spots in sc
I just got a pack of Prawn Starz and yesterday I caught a little trout on one with a popping cork. But it was blowing too hard to be fun so I only fished for 10 minutes or so. I have a feeling those are going to be a favorite bait under a cork. They'll probably be good without the cork around the marsh grass. I fish in the Chesapeake Bay and the river mouths around Hampton VA. The Prawn Starz are cool for this time of year because we don't have a lot of tail biters but in the summer I'd go nuts from all the little bites. I'm excited to try them more now.
Nice fish
