Great video man. I like the educational style to your videos. It’s so hard to catch fish consistently here in Charleston. I enjoyed watching and learning from you.
Thanks man! In 2016 I was new to saltwater fishing and looking to figure it out. I’m trying to provide answers to all the questions I had when I was new. Anyone can catch fish and show them in a video, I want to provide substance.
Dude thanks for sharing what rigs you were using. I cant for the life of me catch anything here in charleston. Greenway, stono, ashley river all the channels..nothin lol
Curious about the advantages of the circle hook and split shot over just a jig head under the cork? Or what conditions would dictate using one over the other
Great question. The jig head is more convenient but i’ll only do this if I’m holding the rod in my hands and can set the hook as soon as I feel the smallest bite. The jig head hook gets swallowed easily then you end up gut hooking the fish. The circle hook can be fished much more passively. If a fish swallows it it’s much more likely to slide out of its stomach and get hooked around their jaw. It’s important while using a circle hook to not set the hook, but instead Real down or let the fish “hook” themselves and start pulling while rod is in holder.
Hey! I really appreciate you watching and the comment. I try to make helpful videos to show patterns in fish behavior, areas they are often in, and techniques to catch them. I’m not showing any particular spot, these same patterns can be found thousands of times throughout the Lowcountry.
All tides have their advantages and I just fish when I have the time. If I were to pick I would fish a falling tide. During a falling tide the bait and water is coming out of creeks and the grass so predatory fish are lying in ambush. It allows you to cast up shallow or into creek mouths and pull the lure with the current across the fish lying in wait.
ill be in charleston the next few days with my kayak .i plan on bringing 3 rods ,what rigs would you recomend for this time of year.also have you had any luck with a topwater bite early mornings?
Hey Matthew, if I was coming with three rods I would have one with a cork rig like in this video, another with a paddle tail, and a third with a topwater or other hard bait. During my last trip I had good success with a Heddon super spook jr in the morning. I would work that around and depending on water clarity switch to a jerk bait or spinner bait on that rod as the sun gets high. On the swim bait rod: try either a 3” paddle tail or my personal favorite, the 3.3” mulletron on a ZWG hook. These summer waters tend to be dirty so the gold rush or Rootbeer chartreuse tail are great. Sometimes natural is the best thing. I like to carry a cast net and offer them back what’s abundant and they are eating. That’s where the cork rig or Carolina rig rod comes in. Hope this helps!

Loved the video but you say Charleston and I don't recognize the areas you are fishing in. Are you in the wando?

I’m new to saltwater fishing, I need some opinions. Which do you prefer incoming or outgoing tide?

@@CurrentAngling I appreciate the advice and all the helpful videos you give! Keep producing and I’ll keep supporting!
Means a lot! Thanks!

Thanks corey.kinda what I was thinking too.i appreciate the bait color specifics.thanks for replying.tight lines!
Like where in Charleston?
I usually fish on the wando River. I’m not giving specific locations but patterns that can be applied anywhere inshore in the lowcountry.
I'm located close to you I wouldn't mind meeting up and doing some fishing I haven't been here in 20 years
That's a silly question for a fisherman. There are literally 100's of places with this same pattern.
Is the rod setup the avid inshore medium lite power?
Med power, x fast action, 7’, avid inshore. Great rod!
I was finding that a med light would work well in open water but around docks It didn’t have enough back bone to turn reds around.
What kind of kayak is that looks stable when your standing up
This is a Hobie outback. It is plenty stable to stand. Most larger fishing kayaks are built to stand on.
@@CurrentAngling nice I was looking at a outback but it's gunna need some work done to it
What sunglasses do you wear?
Gas station special. I know u expected more…
Really enjoying your videos. Being down in Beaufort, we are fishing very similar waters, and your tips have been extremely helpful. Tight Lines!
So happy it’s well received!
Where is that at???
