My Owl Junk Journal Episode 4: Designing and Embellishing a Signature Cover
I am watching several videos on how to unmount wooden stamps. I need a cost effective way-since I have several hundred to do. Is this easy to figure out?
I have found that the best way is to heat them in the microwave for a few seconds. Depending on the type of adhesive the manufacturer used, it shouldn’t take more than 30 seconds. I used 10-second increments. It does take time, and I didn’t do all my stamps in one session. It’s a significant project, but sooo worth it when it’s done! Thanks so much for watching! ~Kathy xo
I'm 4 minutes in and I can hardly wait to watch the rest! I wanted to comment about the page protector issue you had with your sheet protectors being in a notebook and how you said your scraps were loose and flopped around. I used to store my scraps in page protectors by color. I had cut every lopsided scrap down from 12x12" to 8" which left a rectangle piece but since my pockets were full and bulging, 8" always fit well width-wise. I didn't use notebooks but I did have a ScrapRack which is 3-ring like a notebook. At the time I did this I had a RUclips channel for papercraft organization, and I made a video on my 8.5x11" page protectors being my scrap storage which was widely popular (this was probably 5+ years ago). So how I solved the flopping issue where the paper scraps slid around was to put 8.5x11" cheap white cardstock in first, then I sorted my scraps stacked by size and colir inside the pockets, both in back of and in front of the cardstock. So the cardstock basically made me have 2 pockets. Then the scraps no longer slid around in the page protectors. I finally figured out that the problem causing the flopping was that the flimsy plastic sheet protectors would not hold their shape until I placed the cardstock inside it. I wanted to tell you how I worked it out, just in case someone reading this might be helped, although it looks as though the pockets have solved your problem! Yay! I had thought of making pockets on my page protectors too but it didn't seem feasible at the time for me. Thank you for your channel. I just found you tonight and subscribed! 😊
Wow, that sounds like a great solution, thanks for sharing! Thank you so much for watching and subscribing!! ~Kathy xo
@AtticTreasuresEtc you're welcome! And thanks again! Hugs 😊❤️
I love owls too… I am in the middle of my journal for Hispanic Heritage month. I am going to attempt this. When I’m done I will tag you 😊
That would be awesome, Acelia! I’d love to see your journal. By all means tag me when you’re done! Thanks so much for watching! ~Kathy xo
Thank you for this and explaining the detail. This helped me so much
Thank you so much, Acelia, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and for your lovely comment! ~Kathy xo
Ooh .. I need to use your wallpaper storage ideas!! I have them stored flat and end up not using them as much. So nice that you can see them. So many great ideas. I can see that your hubby is creative too! 💕
Thank you so much, Darla! Being able to see them makes it much easier to use them. And I do really appreciate my husband’s support. Thanks so much for watching and for your lovely comment!
An incredibly thoughtful & creative journal! She must have Loved it! I think you may have to make one for yourself! I am inspired, we had lots of great times at our "Cousins Picnic". In connecticut, each family brought tents and the "older" cousin's house on the lake, was the meeting place for meals/BBQs. This was the 70s and there was NO social media, we had the best times playing outdoors, bike riding, water skiing, volleyball, fishing, baseball, hiking, camp fires, w/ campfire tales; a hilarious way of keeping a continual story alive with a limit of 2 to 3 sentences...sort of like a comedy improv!! OMG non stop laughter! There was always a Favorite aunt or uncle "Buck" to keep kids laughing! We engaged in raw fun and you and I are blessed to have those times with cousins! TFS! I need to make a journal of these memories!! PS- back then a family of cousins consisted of 4,5,or 6 kids so you can imagine how big these gatherings were!
Aww, what sweet memories! Thank you for sharing them, Kat! Cousins are all I have left now, and I cherish them all. I actually did make a journal for myself, one of my very first videos on this channel. Here’s the link if you’d like to see the flip-through. Thanks so much for watching and for your lovely comment! ~Kathy xo Welcome! My Junk Journal Flip-Through ruclips.net/video/6PS-vTzm5Sg/видео.html
Love the belly band on this at a angle for sticking in nots or pictures, also I confess...i have a drawer full of napkins that you inspired me to pull out! 😆TFS
Thanks so much, Kat! Yes, I have far too many napkins, but who can resist the cute ones? Not I!! I’ll be posting more videos of this fun journal-in-the-making. Thanks so much for watching! ~Kathy xo
Love the details you did in this Journal! Great job! TFS!
Thanks so much! I’m still working on it, trying to catch a few moments in my craft room between life and family. I really appreciate your sweet comments, and thank you for watching! ~Kathy xo
What glue do you use?
Hi Clare! Whenever I make a video, I try to remember always to say what glue I’m using. If you happen to miss it (or if I forget to say it), I also put it in the description box below the video. In this video I used both Fabritac and Art Glitter glue. Thanks so much for watching, and I hope you enjoyed the video! Happy crafting! 😊 ~Kathy xo
I’ve been thinking about making fabric paper so I enjoyed watching your process. Thanks!
Thanks so much, Frana, I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching and for your lovely comment! ~Kathy xo
Very nice craft room. Your husband is great handy man. I took my carpet out too and put wood flooring I love it's a lot easier to clean. Great job. ❤❤❤
Thanks so much, Edwina! Yes, he’s very handy and super supportive. I don’t think I could do this without him. And yes, the solid surface flooring is much, much better than carpet, especially in a craft room. Thanks so much for watching and for your lovely comment! ~Kathy xo
I would love to see the scrap pocket making
Well, Sandra, it just so happens that I have one! Thanks so much for watching! ~Kathy xo Tutorial - How to Make an 8 Pocket Scrap Organizer from Sheet Protectors ruclips.net/video/AqHaghfLRUY/видео.html
Hi Sandra! Here’s the video for making the scrap pockets. Thanks so much for watching! Tutorial - How to Make an 8 Pocket Scrap Organizer from Sheet Protectors ruclips.net/video/AqHaghfLRUY/видео.html
Thanks for this! I have SO many rubber stamps on wood. I have a huge stamp furniture thing that i was gifted along with all the stamps. It is huge and I don't want it in my craft room. It has acrylic drawers that slide in and out all the way, and then wood doors that close it up. So this is going to take me a long time! LOL! Did you say you are using wax paper to first put the ink on?
Hi Katerina, thanks so much for watching! It took me quite a while to remove all my rubber stamps from the wood blocks, too. It’s a project for sure, and it sounds like you have a big one! I used tissue paper, like the kind you’d put in a gift bag, to put the ink on. I used a light gray tissue paper because that’s what I had on hand, but you can use any color that the ink would show up on. I also have a video of how I’ve organized my acrylic stamps, too, if you’re interested. Thanks so much for your comment, and happy crafting! ~Kathy xo
@@AtticTreasuresEtc Thank you! Yes, looks like a huge project. I was also gifted boxes and boxes of acrylic stamps. They are all in cases, like CD cases. I don't want to store them like that as the case takes up room and are not that easy to open and close. I will watch your video on that as well. I bought sleeves to put them in, and I saw some people using the old photo book paper to store them on. For now, I will keep them in the CD cases, and tackle the wood block stamps first, since those take up the most room.
I wish that I have an extra room to make a craft room !
Hi Cheryl, thanks so much for watching! I do feel blessed to have this extra room to craft in. ~Kathy xo
Awesome project for when there is nothing to do!
I did it as part of my craft room reorganization when I got everything out of storage. It definitely freed up some much needed drawer space! Thanks so much for watching!! ~Kathy xo
I really love this idea! Thanks for sharing!
You’re very welcome! Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching! Also, you’re making great progress on your craft space!! Looking forward to more updates in the coming days. ~Kathy
I watched first part a few days ago and came back to watch the second part. I’m currently doing my annual clean/purge/organize. I’ve seen a few ideas I’m going to have to borrow from you. Thanx for sharing 😊 Also curious how the phone sits on your frame for video recording. Told my better half I need to definitely figure out a good set up for it as I’m always struggling on that part.
Thanks so much for your lovely comment! So, my phone just sits on that frame in such a way as to have the camera lens hang over the edge. I don’t do anything to make it stay up there, but so far I haven’t knocked it off during filming, lol! It’s a super simple setup that’s not in the way at all, and it works very well for me. Thanks so much for watching, and happy organizing! It’s a continuous process. ~Kathy xo
Wouldn’t it be easier to see if you used white tissue paper? Great idea.
Hi Terry, thanks for watching! Yes it would, but I was just using what I had on hand. ~Kathy xo
(I hate to mention it, but I believe you have your Amazon desk organizer upside down. If you flip it over, you will have a shelf on top. Forgive me if you did that on purpose)
Hi Barb! Yes, it could easily go either way. No matter which way it’s put, there’s a shelf on top. I like the way it’s set up, it’s working quite well for me. Thanks so much for watching and for your comment! ~Kathy xo
So many helpful ideas! I am setting up a new craft studio that I got for Christmas so this series came just in time.
Thanks so much, Sheree! I’m so glad you were able to get some helpful ideas. How exciting to set up a new studio! Have fun, and thanks so much for watching and for your lovely comment! ~Kathy xo
Is there a part 2? Such great ideas!
Yes! There is definitely a Part 2! I didn’t realize it right away but my entire video didn’t upload into RUclips because I needed to free up some memory space on my laptop. But I was finally able to get the Part 2 uploaded and it is available. Thanks so much for watching and I hope you enjoy the rest of the video, too! ~Kathy xo
Thank you for the storeage of rubber stamps removed from wood blocks.
You’re very welcome, Brenda! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I do have a couple of videos showing my process in the description box below the video if you’d like to learn more. Thanks so much for watching!! ~Kathy xo
This is so well done! It clearly works for you and has a lot of personality. I appreciate the jewelry organizer for broken jewelry - wonderful! She needs a name.
Thanks so much, Megan! Do you have any suggestions for naming the jewelry organizer? What a fun idea! I’m looking forward to the weather warming up so I can get her painted and prettied up. Thanks for watching and for your lovely comment! ~Kathy xo
Kathy, there were so many gems in your collaboration videos I had to watch them twice!! First, I want to say that I'm so sorry you had such extensive water damage. That had to be very stressful. But I really like the way you reorganized your space. And, seriously, you DO have the best husband!! I love all the storage on lazy susans and wheels. Absolutely genius!! I especially like your work in progress bins. I'm still working on a system for that. Since I'm usually working on multiple projects at once, things can get a bit hectic (and, ahem, messy lol). I'd really like to see how you use these real time. I'm trying really hard to streamline my storage to match my workflow. Seeing how you do it may give me some ideas I can adapt to my space. It's been fun being in collaboration with you again. Love, Denise Settles (PaperKraftD)
Thanks, Denise! My work in process bin is super helpful. It’s sort of like a flow journal, except in a bin and with a specific project in mind. When I’m beginning a project, I just walk around my craft room and “shop” for items that I think might go well with that project. I won’t always use everything I put in it, but it limits my rummaging around my room looking for things once I start the project. Less looking for stuff, and more actual crafting. And since everything is corralled in the bin, straightening up at the end of a session is easy. When that project is completed, I put everything in the bin away so I have an empty bin to use when I’m ready to start a new project. I hope that makes sense. It’s been working well for me! 💕❤️😘
@ it totally makes sense. I have about four of those going, but with unfinished journals 😂 so I’m hesitant to put the stuff away. The upshot is that I have WIP bins that are 3 years old 😬 Then I can’t find stuff for my next project. Maybe my problem isn’t really having a WIP bin, but knowing how to be realistic with my workload and when to call it quits. I need to be ok with the idea that some journals will just never get made - but maybe I can roll what I’ve done into another project 🤷🏻♀️ IDK. That’s why I’d love to see how you successfully use a WIP bin from cradle to grave. My model just isn’t working.
@ well, that might be difficult. I don’t usually show my WIP bin in my videos because I take out and have ready what I’m going to use. Wanna come and sit with me in my craft room for a month or so? It takes me a long time to complete a project because life is so busy, lol!
@ lol sure! I may have to watch your video a third time. I forget where you store your WIP bin. Usually, when I make one it’s on the floor. Having a WIP basket isn’t a new idea to me, but maybe if I had just one designated basket and it was in my kallax unit, this idea could work for me. I think that’s what has been tickling the back of my mind ever since I watched your video the first time. So this is my AHA moment. Your WIP basket has a home. It isn’t just an afterthought. You planned for it and gave it its own designated space on a shelf, taking up precious real estate. And, most importantly, you PUT EVERYTHING AWAY BEFORE YOU START A NEW PROJECT. There’s only one (or two) WIP baskets on the shelf (not on the floor). Thanks for helping me work through that! 😂
@@paperkraftd1 exactly! My WIP bin lives on my little rolling table just to the right of my craft table so it’s accessible while I’m working. If I need to straighten up (like if we’re having company) it lives on top of my console of storage cubes that hold my scrapbook papers, etc. with the other fabric bins. That way I can straighten up without having to put everything away.
Hi Kathy!! So many wonderful ideas in this craft room share. I urge people to watch the second part of your video because it is even better, if you can believe it!!! I love the way you proudly display your kids' art projects. That's such a sweet idea. And I have to admit to button envy. You definitely hit the gold mine with that facebook marketplace post!! Score. Love, Denise Settles (PaperKraftD)
Aww, thank you so much, Denise! I was so upset when I discovered that my video didn’t upload all the way, and it took a few hours to get the second part to load, so thank you for urging people to watch the Part 2. I really appreciate you watching and your sweet comment! I’m finally starting to get caught up on the collaboration videos. After being sick for a month it takes a while to get everything back on track, lol! ~Kathy xoxo ❤️

Thanks for sharing your craft room with us. I also took my stamps off the wooden blocks and then stored them, it saved me so much room. I like your idea of putting stamps together like 'flowers', 'trees', etc. I am going to do that. You had a lot of great ideas. Thanks again.

WE redid our floors too and my stuff has been in storage for the last 3 months. How did you survive? I'm starting to buy stuff I know I have but can't get too yet
It was awful! I was able to set up a tiny craft space out in our motorhome but I didn’t use it much. It was either too hot in there or pouring down rain. But I did manage a few sessions out there. And we made more than one trip to the storage unit to dig through boxes to find “that one thing,” lol! Thankfully I labeled each box on all sides, but it was jam packed! So I completely sympathize with your situation. Thanks so much for watching!! ~Kathy xo
Beautiful beautiful! I love the tribute page to your mom ❤...that double envelope made from sewing pattern instruction sheet is so lovely too...do you have instructions on how to make it please? Im also following along on your videos on making Little Golden Book journal ❤❤❤
Aww, thanks so much for that, Deb! I should do a video on the double envelope, so maybe I can incorporate one into the Little Golden Book. Thanks so much for watching, and for your sweet comment! ~Kathy xo
I think I need to borrow him for a while. J.K., I am blessed with a husband like yours and he supports my crafting. And your video is so inspiring.
That’s so wonderful, Debbie! Having a supportive partner is the best! Thanks so much for watching and for your lovely comment. ~Kathy xo

Ooo, my daughter would love a jewelry organizer like that. Great buy❤️
Thanks Kat! It’s a great addition to my space. Thanks so much for watching and for your lovely comment!

I am curious. I have a ton of wood stamps that were gifted to me. Why do you all get rid of the wood stamps? I hate to get rid of things that I haven't even tried to use a lot yet. I have so many beautiful ones. I am not interested in learning cricut machines in the near future.
Hi Katarina! I appreciate your question. I didn’t get rid of the stamps, I merely removed them from the wooden blocks because I ran out of room in my small space to store them. I did save the prettiest of the wood blocks and have them displayed on a shelf. I hope that answers your question. Thanks so much for watching! I’m sorry that the video cut off unexpectedly at the end. I did upload a Part 2 that I hope you’ll enjoy as well. Happy crafting, and thanks so much for your comment! ~Kathy xo
@@AtticTreasuresEtc Thank you for explaining. I see a lot of videos where creators talk about having moved on from rubber stamps. I guess they moved to die cuts.
@@CreateWithKaterinayou’re welcome! I still use the rubber stamps. I’ve just taken them off of the wooden blocks and converted them into cling stamps.
@@kathycultice5272 Can you create a video showing how you take the stamps off of the rubber stamps, and then what you do with them after that, like storing, using, etc?
@@CreateWithKaterinaI included a link to that video in the description below this video. Thanks for watching! ~Kathy xo
And I got to see it in person😃😃
And it was lovely to meet you! Thanks so much for watching! ~Kathy xo 😊
