    Sean, another great knife. Another great demonstration of the advantages of your combination of knife design elements. I dropped my mini-Accipiter from chest height onto cement recently, and had similar damage to the tip. It took me a little longer to fix the edge, but I think that was due to my inexperience with sharpening convex edges. Still it was easy to fix. Could you do a more detailed video on the sharpening process with closeups? I think I 'm missing some subtleties in the process.

    • @MarsFireForge
      @MarsFireForge 4 дня назад

      Glad your knife took well! That’s one of the major advantages of a well tempered carbon steel blade is that can always be repaired. That is a great idea, I think that will be my next video. I get questions often about sharpening and I think I could put out a better video than the first one I did. Thanks Daryl!

      @darylbrenton4839 4 дня назад

      @@MarsFireForge Your previous videos were good, and I learnt a lot. My problem is that my sharpening is a bit hit and miss. Sometimes the knife is razor sharp, and sometimes struggles to cut orange peel. I suspect that I'm not stropping it at a great enough angle, as I have been told not to do so on straight bevels because overstropping can dull the knife, especially if you don't get the angle right. I think I have a subconcious habit of stopping short of stropping the edge and removing the burr.

    • @MarsFireForge
      @MarsFireForge 4 дня назад

      Actually that’s exactly what I was going to say may be the problem. I had a FAlkniven and I could never seem to get it sharp, until I just stropped a little steeper and realized I’d just been polishing the blade not stropping the edge! I’ll do another sharpening video, though, I think I can make it better and also get some better camera angles with my tripod.

    Great knife Sean. I was disappointed that you didn't do any bushcraft with it. There's a tree in the background! You could have cut some branches, batoned the knife through the trunk, split kindling, shaved a couple of feather sticks, and started a fire on the floor with a ferroceramic rod! Admittedly, you would have to sleep outside afterwards. Still, I liked the video and was impressed again with such small knives cutting 1 inch rope.

    I have been lavish in praise of Mars Fire knives, to the point of sounding like a fanboy. So, even though the exchange rate is against me, I decided to put my money where my mouth is and bought one of Sean's knives. The one in this video with the black handle. It cuts just like it does in the video. I even whittled slivers off a mild steel rod with no edge damage. It cuts right out to the tip of the knife, something no knife I've ever owned has done. I would recommend Sean's knives to anyone.

    Another great knife. I'm impressed with how easily it pierced multiple layers of clothing, especially the time you let go of the trousers before stabbing them. If anyone doubts how well made these knives are, I received mine today, and repeated many of the tests used on this channel. It passed all of them, even whittling mild steel without marring the edge. Able to do aggressive work, and precision cuts. Best knife I have ever owned.

    Very cool! Curved edges are always my favorite for cutting. I have a Klein stripping knife, it’s a bit different of a curve, maybe more like a hook. That’s a cool knife for sure, if I was still stripping wire daily for a living I’d have to get one for sure to pull out on the job.

      Yes, some knives can be used for almost anything, like the Accipiter. Others, either due to size or shape, are very specialised but they do the job well. Otherwise, one design would fit all uses. This is like a cross between the Sheepsfoot knife and a recurve, with double the power for cutting with the tip.

    Wow! People getting all hot under the collar about this video. The purpose of this video is to show the difference between a mass produced knife and a Mars Fire knife. Sean chose a similar knife to demonstrate the features of his design, and he chose a well known producer of quality knives to compare it to. Its not an unreasonable comparison, because the author is showing that they ARE apples and pears. There are different choices made in production, for different reasons. These are practical, hard wearing, using knives. Sean can make these quality control choices because he isn't restrained by the bottom line and shareholder expectations.

    I have spent hours trying to sharpen flat grind knives over the years, spent dozens of hours watching videos, and a couple of hundred dollars on diamond stones and other sharpening devices. But, I could never maintain consistent sharpening angles. Therefore, I would sharpen a knife successfully on one go, and blunt the blade the next. It is as you say, for those blades, you have to sharpen like a machine. The convex grind is simple and repeatable, as it is a natural motion for our bodies. So simple that it should have been obvious.

    • @MarsFireForge
      @MarsFireForge 3 месяца назад

      @@darylbrenton4839 I agree 100%! I’ve heard some people say convex is hard to sharpen, but it’s just objectively not. You can be less precise with sharpening convex and still do it right.
