The opposite of autor valentine lol you like suetonius and sulla. Big olive again
Jennifer was the best. I’m from London and really enjoyed her calming voice giving such wise advice and insights into the wonderful world of literature
It’s time for the Victorian book reading event. Jennifer loved it and I loved her videos about it. It’s so incredibly sad.
The world was lucky to have you. And we are even more lucky to have such great videos from you even after your passing. From Suetonius, to Napoleon, to the tartar steppe, to your travels around Italy...I thank you. Rest in Peace 🕊️ ❤ Du triomphe à la chute, il n'est qu'un pas. J'ai vu dans les plus grandes circonstances, Qu'un rien à toujours, décidé Des plus grande événements Napolèon Bonaparte
You are marvelous ❤
i never knew jennifer personally but I miss her alot and miss her presence on Booktube. Thank you for leaving her bideos up because i frequently go back and watch them.
Glad to hear you're considering *Man and Wife,* which I've read twice. You can see it as the start of Swinburne's lament for the author ("What brought good Wilkie's genius nigh perdition? Some demon whispered -- 'Wilkie! Have a mission'"), but the artist and the reformer are in balance -- as they won't always be later -- and your time with it will be well spent. On his gravestone, Collins identified himself as the author of *The Woman in White,* but my personal favorite is *The Moonstone.* I'd also like to echo the suggestion of *Poor Miss Finch,* put in a good word for *Hide and Seek* from 1854 and alert you to the shorter fiction collected in *Little Novels.* Another Victorian with a gift for depicting credible women is George Gissing...whom, I believe, is one of only three men in the Virago Modern Library series with his 1893 work *The Odd Women.* (The other two are George Meredith with *Diana of the Crossways* and H.G. Wells with *Ann Veronica.*) Gissing isn't in the first tier of Victorian authors, but he is at the top of the second tier, and is the subject of essays from Virginia Woolf and George Orwell. Have you delved into Anthony Trollope?
I was just making my list of Victorian classics to read for Victober, and I remembered, once again, how much this young woman taught me about literature. Her enthusiasm made me want to read books that I’d always been intimidated by. She was such a light, and she is deeply missed.
This is so sad, such a thoughtful young lady 😢.
I am so sorry for your loss. I subscribed today- I have been watching a few of her videos and have already learned so much. What a beautiful, interesting and smart woman. I love this channel ❤
This video is splendid, formidable. Thanks so much!
Augustine’s confessions has helped me with my doubts on the Christian/catholic faith, his youth is similar to mine and I can relate to him how he is a sinner just like me, he wasn’t perfect and knew he was not at all the most good reflecting on his past life, personally I give this book a 9/10.
DG is the worst book! I don’t get the hype
Just one thing, check carefully wether you are comfortable with any rhyming English and German translation, you consider to buy. Both languages don't have the number of rhyming options offered by the Italian language. That leads to awkward wordings, the use of obsolete words, just "to get the rhyme". Personally I found the approach of retaining the meter without rhyme, a very good compromise. You get the rhythm, but in a natural language which supports the flow.
Does the book come with an alternative cover?
I've almost finished The Divine Comedy using Anthony Esolen's translation. Beautiful prose and was not a difficult read. Enjoyed learning more of other translations.
I’m glad to hear this I’m bogging down in Rome part
Oh yeah!!!! I’m reading Count of Monte Cristo right now!!!
Dark academia recommendation: Bunny by Mona Awad. But go into it COLD. Dont read about it or watch videos about it first!
The Name of the Rose: very beautiful prose, interesting story. The Secret History: I didn't think the characters were pretentious, just...different. I enjoyed it and have read it twice. The Maidens: meh. The Historian: the longest book that I have ever read where almost nothing happened. Precious little suspense. Not satisfying. Epistolary structure was very confusing. Hated it.
Still here ❤❤❤
Regarding Oliver Twist: "I went into this with a certain set of expectations..." But not GREAT...expectations. *rimshot*
this video pops up to my feed. RIP jennifer ❤
What Netflix Borgia show are you talking about? Like what’s the name of it? I can’t find it on Netflix usa
I'm so sorry. I just stumbled across Jennifer's RUclips account while watching random book videos, and she seems like a lovely young woman I would've enjoyed hanging out with. I just saved every recommendation of hers from her War of the Roses video, and was about to comment on our mutual love of Richard III and how I added everything except she recommended that I hadn't read yet and how thankful I was to find her video. Then this one popped up as the suggested next video and my heart sank, realizing she'd never read it. I can't imagine how sad people who really knew her are, but I thought I'd at least share my comment here so her parents can see that her videos are still doing what she intended - sharing her passion and love of books with other readers.

Me too 💔
How wonderful that you can think of any subject and there is probably someone out there who knows and can share what they have leaned. Today I wanted to learn about Shelley and lo and behold, here I am. Bless you. 😊
An excellent book. Quite shocking. And as Jennifer says, he had access to the imperial library as well as some pretty fruity personal correspondence.
I’m sorry for your loss, she seemed unusually thoughtful and curious and I really appreciated the wide range of her interests in classics and non-fiction. I also appreciated that she noticed things on a deeper level that I found most people commonly missed about books that would be labeled “challenging” or “divisive”.
RIP
Oh my goodness, I just found out! I am in shock. Jennifer always seemed so vibrant and healthy, with such a zest for life. She was my favorite booktuber to watch and I often talked to my daughter about her too. Her love and enthusiasm for the classics made me want to go out and read them all. This just makes me so sad. I am so very sorry Pam for your loss and anyone else who was close with her. I have also lost a child. Sending you love and prayers, Pam ❤May she rest in peace.
It’s great to hear someone who “gets it” talk about Moby Dick - I completely agree that the tangents completely intensify the tension of the climactic final confrontation. I also don’t get the criticism that his writing is dry and boring - I thought it was exquisite and that he’s also extremely funny, which no one talks about. I read this about 4 years ago and have still not stopped thinking about it. It’s a definite re-read in the near future.
I love your reviews its very insightful. I watched abt 4 other videos about Jane Austen's novel reviews, this probably my favorite
Nice video! I've read it ten times; Garnett twice, Maude three times, Briggs three times, Pevear & Volokhonsky two times. A few other translations I attempted were abandoned after a few pages. Maude is my favorite. My very brief description of each.. Garnett is good but very Anglicized. Maude feels the best, feels right to me. Briggs(my second favorite), is more of a 'no frills' approach, I almost want to say, masculine-ish, especially compared to P & V which was excellent, but struck me as a little flowery and more feminine, which I appreciated in the French influenced society parts, but less so in the more Russian parts. Regardless of translation, this book keeps on giving in the most unexpected and wonderful ways!
Impressed by your knowledge!!
Yo ho ho matie read treasure island or walk the plank😊
I was wondering why I hadn’t seen anything from Jennifer and came by her channel to catch up. I’m in shock. Thank you Jennifer for all the wonderful years we all had with you here on Booktube. May you rest in peace.
So sorry for your loss, Pam. I've watched a number of her videos and always admired how well-spoken she was, and really took to heart many of her book recommendations. (She's pretty much the only person who could make me consider reading Moby Dick, after her glowing review!) BookTube will not be the same without her, but I'm so glad for the time she had here and the love that she shared with us. May her memory be eternal!
The Harvard museum is full of academic plunder.
I've read Dante in spanish and portoguese. The thing we loose the most is maybe the different nuances of languages Dante employs in the poem. From the very crass and vulgar of hell to the ethereal one of paradise
No. We read the original with a big amount of notes. Luca Serianni a great Dantist said that about 90% of modern Italian words are present in Dante's Commedia
I don't know exactly what to say, but feel I should attempt something. When I absorbed the reality this video was conveying all I could do was let out a long, slow exhale. Jennifer's thoughts about literature carried a quiet credibility and depth. In short, she was a goldmine. Though her impressive intellect was immediately apparent, no one could've been less pretentious. I even loved her gentle Southern accent. Most of all, though, I liked her as a person, for there seemed nothing not to like. Dear Pam, what more could I wish for you than a comfort only God Himself could provide? And that's what I prayed for.
Will reach each of these books in your honor Jennifer. I missed you today. So much 🦢🫧
I miss Jennifer so much, keep watching her videos and wondering what books she would be talking about.
Same 😔
