    And this is why auto manufacturers need to open source it a bit more so owners and independent shops can DIYs and repair because if they're not going to do it within a timely manner and if they're going to be non-transparent about the reasons then it's up to the consumer since it's their purchase and their vehicle to look up solutions on their own.

    Wow that is awful! That is totally unacceptable. Sorry what you're going through. I have 1000 miles on my 2023 ID3 Pro S Plus. It's currently in the shop for brake booster replacement. My wife also has a 2023 ID4 and it needed a brake booster replacement after owning hers for 20 days. My windshield is also being replaced due to excess distortion in the drivers line of site causing severe eye strain. I have had the surround cameras stop working. Luckily I found tip online to pull the fuse and reinsert it and it brought them back online. I had a loud clicking noise in the rear passenger axel every time I used the brakes that suddenly disappeared after 700 miles. My lug nut covers on my front passenger wheel side have had 2 that fell out and all were loose on my ID4 I had to push them back in. And finally, one of the slats in the center vent under the infotainment display cracked and fell out as I was simply adjusting the direction of the airflow. My ID4 has been nothing but one problem after another. I literally just passed the 1000 mile mark. It's a shame because I do like the vehicle. I also have a 2024 Toyota BZ4x, not a single issue after 2000 miles. I also have a 2023 Model Y Performance, no issues after 1000 miles. It is really mind boggling that both my wife's ID4 and mine needed brake booster replacements. What kind of quality control is Volkswagen doing with these? It is abysmal.

    Hi. Thanks. In cas of a real winter cold, do you think the Pemi could be of any use to wear over one of Senchi's alpha direct garments ?

    • @diwoodoesthings8288
      @diwoodoesthings8288 3 месяца назад

      The pemi definitely provides more standalone warmth. But if comparing the pemi to a Senchi Alpha 120 with a wind shell over it, I think the Alpha 120 might take the edge over the Pemi. The fit on the pemi is more relaxed as well. A bit baggier and more difficult to layer over with a wind shirt or shell. For static warmth around camp or just casual use, I would go Pemi. For active use and big mileage, I would go Senchi Alpha. Sorry I just re-read your comment and my answer above didnt directly answer it. But I am leaving that information up there. You could layer the Pemi over a Senchi. The Pemi packs down better than a Patagonia R1, for example. Then throw a properly sized wind shirt or shell over that. I don't think fleece over fleece layering is the most ideal because they will pull on eachother a bit (friction). I would rather layer a primaloft layer over the senchi. I find myself reaching for my Senchi for technical use and my Pemi for casual use. Can your proposal be done? Yes. Will it work well? Yes. Are there better layering options out there? Yes.

    Used the ME Trango for a few years in temperatures as low as -25°C(-13°F) Surprisingly durable, warm, weather resistant and well featured. Especially for the money. Probably in large part owing to its heat reflecting scrim and dual off-set baffle construction(?) Definitely be interested if ME were to release a hard core thigh-length, larger helmet compatible hooded, 800/850FP Goose down version though. Would be nice if they offered them in more brighter colours, like in some of the Women’s versions(?) That internal shot detailing the differential baffle construction of the Kryos jacket was just awesome. Kudos on another clear and instructive guide to ME’s down and synthetic insulated jacket range.

Being an ID. owner myself I know the drivetrain errors can happen and they are quite easy to handle by a competent VW workshop. Maybe you reach out another VW workshop in your area to fix issues. Being a layer that you throw on when you stop at the summit or on belay. When it is really windy and cold, the last thing you want to do is take a [shell] layer off in order to put one on. A large down parka like this is your outermost layer that you put on over everything when you stop. A down hoody/sweater will be better suited as a mid layer under a shell.

    Great review! I am partial to TNF outdoor gear, but recently added some MHW pieces. I got the TNF Summit Series Breithorn Jacket last season to replace my Summit Series Thunder Micro Jacket (purchased 12/2012, so 11+ years old). The Breithorn is okay at best. The cuffs are meh (elastic, but still loose). And not a huge fan of the silky, soft feel of the material. The Thunder Micro has a tougher feel to the material. They don’t make ‘em like they use to. That being said, I am thinking about getting the MHW Phantom Alpine Down Jacket as my new alternative to my old TNF Micro Thunder Jacket. I found the old version…Phantom Down Jacket at a deep discount, so may give this one a shot. And maybe selling the TNF Breithorn, albeit at a small loss or just keep it as a beater jacket. Thoughts?

    • @diwoodoesthings8288
      @diwoodoesthings8288 5 месяцев назад

      The two jackets are pretty different. The Breithorn is more of a sweater-weight down jacket whereas the MHW Phantom Alpine is a proper belay parka with the fit and features to boot. You could layer the Phantom over the Breithorn no problem. There is probably ~2x the down in the Phantom. Are you doing mountain activities that require that much insulation and a 2-way zip, etc? If so, get the Phantom. Its a great jacket. If just casual wear around town, yeah it will work, but might be a bit overkill. You will certainly not be cold in the Phantom Alpine. Check out my other video on the Phantom parka/jacket comparison. Their Phantom Line has changed quite a bit over time.

      @@diwoodoesthings8288 Thanks for your insight. I am looking for a sweater-weight down jacket. I am doing mountain activities, but will not require as much insulation as the Phantom and 2-way zip, so will stick with the Breithorn. I also may look at the Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket. It’s a shame that MHW does not have a light-weight down jacket in between the Ghost Whisperer 2 and Phantom. Maybe the Stretchdown (700 fill)...?

    • @diwoodoesthings8288
      @diwoodoesthings8288 5 месяцев назад

      @@Adamas11 The Stretchdown is an interesting piece. I like the face fabric for its stretch and breathability. It is also quite durable which is not common with many down jackets. That said it is a bit heavier and less packable than a jacket like the Ghost Whisperer. Overall, I think it is a great option if you aren't putting in high mileage, thru-hiking or doing the fast and light thing. If I were you, I would look at something like a Rab Electron. It is very warm, very packable and great for the mountains or the streets. The Patagonia Down Sweater is also a fantastic option. Around 5oz of 800fp down. The Feathered Friends EOS would be my #1 pick if price isn't a factor.

      So I broke my femur on the Matterhorn in September (video coming soon), So my season only just started a couple of weeks ago. They absolutely plow downhill. I have been really impressed with the out-of-the-box comfort of the Rossignol Alltrack boots. I really like the power strap system on these and they click right into the Duke PT's. The Black Diamond impulse 98's are absolute bulldozers. Like a Ford Raptor. Go through anything at speed and handle awesome. They get me up the hill when needed. But truly a resort/sidecountry setup. I like having the ability to skin back out of something if I need to but If I know I am going to be doing any real uphill, I am bringing a lighter setup with my Radical pros or F1 LT's.

    Would the Trango work as part of a layering system for treks like Mt Fuji, Kilimanjaro and Everest base camp? If not which mountain equipment jacket would work well? Perhaps the Kryos…? Another great video! Thanks!

      Everest Base Camp absolutely. I took my Mountain Hardwear Nilas to Everest Base Camp and it was very nice to have albeit a bit overkill. but the Paiyu/Trango would be absolutely sufficient for that. My partner had her Paiyu/Trango down to -19 degrees F in the Adirondacks a couple of weeks ago and was comfortable and warm in it. I think with adequate mid and base layers on, the Paiyu/Trango would be sufficient for Kilimanjaro. For example, with a 3oz (fill weight) down sweater (ex. Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer) or 60gsm synthetic mid layer (ex. Patagonia Nano Air or Arc'Teryx Atom LT) underneath, you would have enough insulation to be warm on the summit. I would also layer with a light fleece like a Mountain Hardwear Airmesh or Patagonia R1 as well. Make sure your layers work with one another, if things layer too tight, then they will compress, not be as warm and can cut off circulation. Check with your guide company about your parka before making a decision. The Rab Neutrino Pro is often recommended for Kili. That jacket has stitch-through construction and 212g of down. The Paiyu/Trango is fully baffled and has 269g of down. So I think it will be sufficient.
