Backcountry Skiing on Mount Mansfield | Fellowship of the Peak

They say there's no friends on a powder day. But that's not entirely true. What started as a solo quest for the summit of Mount Mansfield turned into an unlikely fellowship of backcountry skiers and riders destined for the chutes of Mount Mansfield after an onslaught of snow. A dumping of powder.
Backcountry skiing in Vermont is not always about destination. It's about the quest. This is the tale of what became known as, the Fellowship of the Peak.
Part of the day was spent analyzing snowpack to ensure the route and steeps were safe for skiing. The MWAC reports on Mount Washington indicated high avalanche probability after yesterdays storm, so we proceeded with caution, and ultimately decided the snowpack was stable enough to go.
