I am so with you on all of this. I am in my mid-50's. I live in nyc and spent my 20's and 30's going to clubs like mad-and this song was DEFINING to me. it has everything in my opinion. his vocals MY GOD. that gorgeous baritone, which can then go into his heavenly falsetto of thrill!! the piano throughout--and then especially when it goes mad in that whole climatic section of the song. those strings that begin the song and echo throughout-they keep this steady heartbreak thing threading throughout the song. the BASS LINE. the harmonies. omg!! perfection!! THE BEST!!! this song has this gorgeous happy/sad thing running throughout it. it doesn't seem to absolutely grab everybody. but it seems-if it does indeed grab you-it never lets go. my enthusiasm and love for this song has never changed or even wavered from that first moment I heard it in 1989. bravo to all involved. and bravo to you for highlighting it today! gorgeous gorgeousness! thanks for posting!

This tune on a fantastic pair of speakers is just stellar. That infectious bass line is so mesmerizing and that electronic "around the world" hook...WOW! This came out around my birthday in January 1997...and I was hooked. The video did a nice rotation on the MTV circuit late nights...so cool!
