I am a landscape photographer from San Rafael, CA. My images focus on California’s natural beauty. A favorite subject is the local landscape of Marin County which often involves dramatic low fog flowing over our coastal hills and forests.

I know I'm not the only one who loves autumn road trips. This video documents a couple of recent getaways to photograph fall color in the Sierra Nevada. It includes a trip to the Eastern Sierra as well as Yosemite Valley.

I lived and worked there for 6 years from 03-09. I lived in the only stone house on the meadow, H-115. My view out my front door was Half Dome. It’s a magical place and was the best 6 years of my life. Always going on some adventure with co workers including 6 of us doing a full moon hike from Glacier point to the valley one beautiful August night.
@@jameswebb9738 Thanks so much for giving a look. Living in the valley must have been wonderful! I've known some others who have lived and worked there and like you, they remember it as one of the best times of their lives. It has become very crowded but still magical.

Thanks so much for the kind words. This video was recorded in the first week of May. The springtime can be hit or miss. You can get stormy weather or blue skies or anything in-between. I guess that's part of the fun. :)

Beautiful locations very beautiful, even as you descended from the hilltop and walked passed a trail with fences and a tunnel view of the mountain you photographed I could see a beautiful composition. Thanks for sharing.
Good eye, I thought the exact same thing. I felt done on that particular day but I've made a mental note to go back and give that comp a try.
Yosemite Valley is a paradise location and to be there w/out the crowd is awesome, so many beautiful compositions in that location. Lovely images, cheers.

M favorite places, I've spent many of house fishing Bishop Creek and reverse creek in the last 50 years 👍

@@mgman6000 Nice! I've been visiting the area for almost 30 years but it used to all revolve around climbing. Would like to do more fishing.
@@DavidSafanda It's been 24 years since I've been up there but they used to stock brooder trout in the lakes and streams that weighed up to 4 or 5 lbs everyone wanted to get one It was a lot of fun my grownup kids still have great memories of our Sierra trips

Awesome! This is so amazing. Im planning to take some photos of Mt Tam, but a little bit of confused on the maps. Do go to Mt Tam or Mt Tam state park? Thank you
Thanks for the kind words. The images in this video were captured in a variety of locations on Mt.Tam. It really depends on the conditions on any given day but I would map to the top of Mt.Tam and stop where ever it looks good.

Thanks Kevin. I think I made and subsequently canceled about 4 different trips to Death Valley this winter. I finally decided I'm just going to focus on some stuff close to home this winter.
I loved watching this. The photos you capture are amazing! I never take for granted how beautiful Marin is. And although I got super tired of the rain this winter.. the lush green hills and gorgeous flowers lately have been worth it. 💥

Very nice pictures David. I live in Sonoma County and there are sure are a lot beautiful things to photograph here in the North Bay. Don't cross over into Marin County that often But I recognize a few of the locations you went to and have shot there myself. Like the cheese factory and that overlook of the hills with fog from up high. Never been to or heard of Black Mountain. I think I like some of those images the best you showed.. And Michael Ryan is another great photographer who takes beautiful pictures. I've seen a number of his pictures at the local kaiser hopsital. I enjoy watching your videos and your a great storyteller. Look forward to the next one.

You went in spring but what month and was EVERYTHING open by then
I believe that video was from later April/early May. No, Tuolumne Meadows often doesn't open until early June.
@@DavidSafanda That’s exactly when I was planning to visit but was hoping everything was open
@@frankstark3036 Tough decision. It's usually less crowded in the spring than summer. Most things in Yosemite Valley should be open but it depends on the winter snowfall so it's never the same from year to year

@@DavidSk2683 Point Reyes National Seashore is about an hour from Mt.Tam. It's worth a visit if you have time.

thanks for this. i live for the fog, and I'm from Marin County. I traveled W. Ridgecrest hundreds of times on my mountain bike. I wish I'd been a photographer back then. now i live in northern san diego county, and miss my beloved marin county. I try to get up there once or twice a year. bolinas ridge, ridgecrest, phoenix lake, kent pump road, china camp, cataract trail are my favorite places to shoot.
Thanks so much for giving a look. Watching the fog roll over that ridge never seems to get old. You know what though...it now gets a little crowded up there for my taste. Enjoy the fact that you probably had it all to yourself on those evenings back in the day. :)

Everything about this video is beautiful... just as a process piece it stands up as a wonderful look into the mind of a landscape photographer who loves Mt. Tamalpais as much as you do.
