I drink the dried yarrow as tea almost every day. I don’t mind the bitter taste which can easily be sweetened if necessary. However, I am not sure if the most medicinal properties are in the flowers or the leaves and stalks or the whole plant.

The butterbur I find in Japan has rather small leaves. It is called fuki no tou and possibly also bog rubarb. In early March, the plant puts forth flower buds and these are often eaten in a few ways like by blanching in salt water and mixing with miso paste or in a fried tempura style. Young leaf stalks are also peeled and cooked as a side dish.

Hi Alicia My honest answer is I don’t know. I have never prescribed it for AF so can’t talk form personal experience. Typically with AF blood thinners are used and if warfarin is in place you would have to monitor INR levels very closely if you were to use any herbs at all. I would suggest you might want to work one to one with a qualified Medical Herbalist who can assess your case and prescribe accordingly. Certainly as a cardiac tonic hawthorn may have its place but would suggest open communication with your cardiology team should you wish to use natural remedies. Hope this helps.

Have it growing in my Yorkshire garden. Flowers in February onwards - bees love it. Tastes a bit more bitter than official comfrey. Chopped up stalks lightly buried will root very easily, and it seeds itself prolifically.
