😭😀😁👍😁😅😘🙂👏
Another box ticked off (well two really 😉) it might be worth investing in an SDS drill to save your arms from all that chiselling, if your house is anything like ours you will be doing a LOT more of that 😂. We drove past your house a few days ago and it is looking good, keep it up 👍
We will definitely get an SDS drill. Next time when you are passing say Hi. We will be pleased to meet you both.
I have just been in Lidl Pombal and they are doing an SDS for €49.99 . Your van was there when we first went past but had gone when we were on the way back anyway. Will definitely pop in next time 😁
Any news on your D7 visa application yet ? My wife and I had our "interview" with VFS on 1st July and we are still waiting 29th September.
We are still waiting as well. Just got to be patient I guess.
👌👌👌💯💯💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️❤️
Is the box area abit sqiffy or is it me 😂. It was me lol
Haha. My middle name is squiffy. (David)
Aww, bless Mum for sending such an excellently useful cutting tool. Great to see Dave so at ease with creating pathways needed to fit boxes and conduit in your stone house. You've taken pretty well to what were new building skills, being thoughtful and methodical helps a lot. Oo, i just had a thought: you know what might be helpful during you dyi and after is an air purifier. It'd be multipurpose as aside from building dust, it'll help with any sooty air, Sahara dust clouds, road dust kicked up from passing cars, things floating in from strimming, rototilling the kamd, burning debris, etc. I got 2 for our house when we has successive years of great forest fires in Northern California -- they made a huge difference in our home's air quality. As our also having heating & air circulation features, i keep at least 1 on for most of the year. Great investment. Hooray for being ready to get hooked up for grid electricity!
Good job ❤
If you get a misting bottle with water in it and give a couple of squirts high in the air during grinding, the mist will capture the dust in the air as it falls. Clears the room much quicker than waiting for it all to settle naturally, and makes breathing a bit easier. I don't envy you the job. Good result though - electricity one step closer :)
Great tip! As i have asthma, i was thinking our heros might like to use a N85 mask whenever working with fine aerolyzed particles. We want them to enjoy their retirement and house rebuild in good health for a long time. Ah! Dave put on a terrific mask for his indoor dust making 😊👍🏼. Gumamela/hibiscus is such a pretty plant.
❤❤😊
Thanks
We enjoy your videos because they are real life. You are both doing great. Can i ask if you have heard about your visa yet please? We went to VFS Global in London yesterday for our D7 😊
We are still waiting to hear. We will definitely do an update when something happens. Good luck with yours.
@@Iwantalemon thank you ! Yours has taken a while!!
@sarahcampbell-t2g I’m afraid it is what it is. We try not to stress too much about it.
Amazing job😘😘🤗🤗🤗
Thank you very much
You looked and sounded upset at the beginning of the video. I have renovated a house, it takes a lot of time and effort. It becomes overwhelming if you just try to get everything done as fast as possible. With exhaustion comes mistakes, corner-cutting and disappointment even depression. Be kind to yourselves. You are achieving a lot. Take the time to smell the roses often. You WILL get there and it WILL take longer than you imagined. Jen you are really an excellent renderer :)
What a lovely comment. I wasn’t upset but a little emotional. We feel blessed to have made such good friendships here so quickly, people who have helped us so much, and been so kind. It is something I am very grateful for. Plus I am a big softy at times. As for the work, just the opposite, it gets me up in the morning🤪 David
Looking great Dad and Jen! Xx
Thanks Tash😊
Thank you, Tash x
Glad you've got your priorities right. I always remember the fellowcfrom Part-Time Portugal saying "Well, this is Part-Time Portugal, not Kill Myself Working [24/7] Portugal." Love your practical approach to making your home liveable. Best use of finances smd upcycled materials. Your rendered walls transformed the stable from hovel-like to a pleasing, clean place to help keep whatever you store in there from getting mildewy, etc. Your instinct to dig the floor down seem spot on. From watching other channels, your laser level (that will come into your life) will help you get the earth as level as poss, you'll put down a sheet of moisture barrier to run up the walls a bit, use stone or composite aggregate to level the floor, then pour your cement. If you want underfloor heating, i believe you coil the hot water piping over the steel wire support laid over the gravel before you pour. Just saying out loud so you have an idea of what to look up re steps to such a project and materials you might need. Keep having fun!
Hi, This has to be our comment of the week. Thank you for taking the time to write. You make some very interesting and pertinent points. We have taken on board what you have said and may well implement some of your suggestions. Thank you for watching.
@@Iwantalemon You're quite welcome. Your easy going approach resonated with me and i just wanted to cheer you on. I've had a lifelong tendency to go balls to walls with work-projects-chores and recently effected built-in down and decompression time to stave off recurrent burnouts. I'm like Jen preferring the best poss outcome as it makes a striking difference, so your splitting jobs according to your strengths is great teamwork. Scratch coats just need to get on, and then finer finishes are just so. Cheers from San Francisco 👋🏼😊
Good balance with work and play. Lots of love from Florida
You are absolutely right. Thank you
I agree with your comment regarding making time for friends and leisure. Appreciate the reasons you chose to move to Portugal. Love and best wishes to you both. ❤
What a lovely comment. Thank you so much.
Jen your walls look beautiful!!!!! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! Jen x
👍
Thank you
I agree with you, friends are treasure, and as long as you have food in your belly, a warm bed and a dry roof over your head, you are rich. Jen is becoming an expert renderer.
Thank you so much. We agree with you. This is a fantastic comment
Slowly slowly wins the race! Take your time and don’t forget to live the dream 👍 Can’t wait to see the finished kitchen too.
That means you and us will have to be patient hahaha
Absolutely. Dream kitchens of classical Rome were not built in a day.
Good job, you should both be proud of the jobs you have completed. I couldn't agree more with you about the price of wood here! Brian and Diane x
Thanks a lot guys. Maybe we should make stuff from pallets hahahaha
@@Iwantalemon That's exactly what some folks are doing lately for lowest costs and/or temporary structures -- harvesting planks and blocks from pallets. Offcuts now seem so covid lockdown era. If you have time to watch, their projects might spark thinkings: Frankie Off Grid Luke and Sarah's Off Grid Life Off Gridding On A Shoestring Project Portugal Make. Do. Grow. The Origin Homestead They've fashioned cabinets, shelves, spice racks, bottle washing stations, bins, etc., from wood scraps! 🙆🏻♀️
Loved how you both laughed when he said that the room was a temporary situation. That is was going to be a luxurious home kitchen some day.
We laughed because it is so far off at the moment that it seems funny.
@@Iwantalemon lol I got that.
Continuação de bom trabalho 😊
It is a continuous work but we enjoy it
EXCELLENT, PERFECT WORK
Thank you for watching and thank you
Loved the story, Daniel, truly is a great guy,i couldnt think on having a better cousin for life .
Hi, thanks for your comment. We know Dan is the man for sure.
Upcycle Recycle… great job 😀.. drove past your place yesterday ..
Thank you so much
👏👍
Thanks
Great job on the windows, use what you have before you start throwing money at a project! A couple after our own hearts. Keep it up 🙂👍
Thanks guys. You know how it is. That good old British make do and mend. ☺️
That is a very nice door for 100 Euros. Serves it's purpose for sure. It's well made and hefty.
Thanks for the comments. We are very pleased with it ourselves. Thanks for watching
Taking shape! All these efforts are paying off. Can i ask where your furniture is please? Did you bring any or store it?
Thank you for your comment. As of now, our furniture is stored in the UK.
@@Iwantalemon ahh, we did wonder!!😊
Well done
Thank you very much.
Great door and at the end of the day will do the job just as well as a new one. Doors and windows are so expensive here and yet many are manufactured locally. This will give you peace of mind.
Thanks for the comment. It is expensive for some of the things that are produced locally, but still, it is nice to support local businesses when we can.
One can make a very comfortable home using 2nd hand furnishings, and hard labour. One man's rubbish is another man's treasure. The door will do very well.
Thank you for your comment. You are absolutely right. Make do with what is available.
Mooi werk👍👌
Thanks
Wat een mooi video deze week en ook lang🎉❤
Thank you
Jen you are an artist, excellent job!🥰
Thank you! Cheers!
Good afternoon, I just discovered "I want a lemon". I am trying to watch all the episodes again, but it is very difficult to find the order. Is it possible to provide the next movie with a sequence number. Thanks
Thank you. You have made a very good point and we will endeavour to make it right.
Qwerrt
👍
I can see that you two make a terrific building team. It's obviously great practice working on out buildings, ahead of plastering or rendering your main living space. My rendering tip would be to make sure you soak the old clay brickwork well first, before smearing on any mortar or render. Otherwise, in your Portugal climate, the render will dry too fast, with the dry brickwork sucking all the moisture out of your mix. Was this room used as animal stables before? Just watch out if you seal it off for a storage space, you'll need some ventilation, with at least one opening window or large vent, on the opposite side from the door - which ideally you should also leave open. I'm guessing the floor will have no damp proof course. Can't wait to see where you go with this. I'd love to have an old building to renovate like this.
Thank you. This is a very interesting comment. Yes, it was a stable before. The tips that you have given us are very useful and we thank you.
Awesome! You will always treasure that bed, made with your own hands❤👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you for the lovely comment. We will certainly treasure it.
Good job with your bed. We might pinch your design because it looks nice and sturdy and we are both pretty sturdy people. Thanks for a great video. Brian & Diane ❤
Sturdy beds for sturdy people, it makes sense hahaha
A great video this week! Brilliant team work, that is the way to get things done. You might find it easier if you make your top mix a touch wetter, but I can't argue with your results!! Well done. Brian & Diane 😀
Thanks guys. You are an inspiration to us.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you
Looks really good, amazing job Jen you inspiring us 💯🙏🏽
Thank you for your lovely comment. We do our best.
Get Jen a job plastering at a local builders, good job.
I'm too slow to make any money from it.-Jen
Well done guys 😊
Is there a water ingress in the top left corner, appears a different colour on the ceiling render. You possibly could pick up a cheap window in a demolition yard to box in rather than perspex. Looking much improved already.
Me again, I didn't realize you already had the perspex, makes sense to use it.
@@Iwantalemon Well, you can always speed it up just like a video lol Anyway, you're very good at that! 👍
Wow that looks so good. Amazed what you get done with not much.
Thanks. Mostly using a lot of willpower and effort.
Was lovely meeting you both today, we look forward to having a beer or three very soon, good luck with everything hopefully we can have a proper chat next time we see you xxx
Nuce I subed good work
Thank you very much
What a long and beautiful video❤,I have a feeling that your house will become the most beautiful house,Step by step and everything will be fine..Looking forward to the next videos..good luck👍✌️❤️
Thank you very much for your comment. Yes, step by step, backwards before can go forward. We will try our best to make it beautiful.
Don't ever apologise for your workmanship. You are doing great, and you are doing it all yourself. We very much enjoy your videos, you keep it real. No arrogance or pretensions, no showy stuff. Just 2 people trying to create and live your best life.
That’s a lovely comment. We really appreciate your words.
