    Hello - Quick question: The topsoil we can get at our local landscape store here in Boise is a clay-ish sandy loam rich in minerals. I saw your video, and would like to try it out with some of our potted citrus and olive trees. I noticed it doesn’t drain as fast as other soil types. Is this normal? I noticed it takes some time, but water eventually does drain. Do you think it should be amended with sand/pumice to increase drainage a bit? Also, do you think topsoil can could also be used for potted fig trees as well? Thank you so much!

    • @themulberries
      @themulberries 4 дня назад

      @@ezequielmartinez2162 That sounds pretty similar to what we have here! That's normal though, top soil won't drain like potting mix. You may just have to adjust your watering schedule. As for figs, definitely! The pot may just be heavy because figs generally require larger pots than citrus.

    I have I think "lanceleaf ground cherry" (or something) native ones that have popped up here ever since I was a kid. I've eliminated a lot of things I don't want growing in my garden beds, but always let one of those come back every year. I may try grafting a tomato or eggplant to one. • @paul.1337
      @paul.1337 6 дней назад

      Googling just now it seems my native crappy one is the same one you're grafting onto, possibly. It could also be P. Virginiana? I tried one of the ripe berries last year when I found out they probably weren't poisonous and don't remember specifics other than not caring for it.

The fabric pots restrict the roots to a degree, where we only have to root prune with a long spade once per year to make them easy to remove when we eventually relocate somewhere permanent. Nice fruit set, my brother grows figs and pinches the terminal ends from the branches in the Spring when they reach 8" - 10" in length. This initiates rapid fruit development. Due to our shorter growing season the latest fruits fail to ripen in October. Branches that don't respond to the pinching, will produce side branches, which can be also be end pinched when they reach 8" - 10" in length.

      @@rafaelramos441 Thanks! That's a good strategy for sure. We pinched some of our more stubborn varieties, but not this Improved Celeste so I'm impressed it set this many on its own. We can probably keep picking into October and maybe early November if we're lucky.
