Love US942 💪🍊 so cool you were able to get some fruit from Hershell in the order. 942 coming on the scene!!!A lot of potential for 942, the seeds I got grow really strong like a citrumelo. Thanks for the shout out brother 💪🍊 much love. Lou and Hershell at Madison Citrus are AWESOME 👏
Apparently this fruit wasn't even a great one since it felt very light for the size so we're looking forward to trying more in the future! We planted our seeds too, and I've read they're mostly zygotic which opens the door to F2 populations with different characteristics. You're welcome though! Much love from The Mulberries 💪🍊 Hoping we can meet Hershell and Lou in person one day, that would be awesome too! The quality of their trees is outstanding.
@@themulberries it’s also one of the top, if not the MOST resistant to greening hybrid trifoliate to date. Tested better than all the others. Excellent fruit quality with very low if not almost non existent trifoliate flavor, and very similar to a calamondin, 0 degree cold tolerance, could be more, need Guinea pig trees for more testing. I think the fruit you got wasn’t as ripe as the ones I had. Extremely dark reddish orange skin and nice orange flesh. The breeding potential with this as a parent are endless. Tom McClendon (wrote the book on Hardy Citrus for the south east) and I were talking and the name dragon mandarin 🐉 really fits this one 💪🍊 he said he likes dragon breath but just putting dragon with anything makes something sound so much cooler 😎 DRAGON MANDARIN 🍊🐉
@@toughcitrus Wow, I can't wait to try a ripe one! Very impressed with this fruit for a first generation cross. I think putting "dragon" in its name would be awesome! I think it will make a good parent for other crosses so I plan on saving pollen as soon as we get some blooms.
Awesome! I'm very happy to hear a good and honest review! Thank you !!! Keep up the good work ! Unfortunately, I can't find this us942 here in Europe. But maybe in the future, we never know! 😝
Thank you very much, we do our best to review these fruit honestly so people may feel more encouraged to experiment with the better ones! I'm sure US-942 seed will find a way overseas - it's going to be a valuable addition to many collections 🍊
We haven't tried them, but we've tried a couple different Citrandarins now and they've all been good! Better than Citranges for sure. I've heard good things about X-639 though so we're growing it as well.
US-942 started as a rootstock (a very good one) and it was discovered afterwards that the fruit quality was actually quite good for a trifoliate orange hybrid!
Not that I know of yet, believe me we would be growing them!! Lots of potential variations in the seedlings. Right now Madison Citrus Nursery is the only way we know of to obtain this variety.
Great video, US 942 is one we are excited about! We appreciate the shout out and are excited to watch the progress of your project!
It's well-deserved! Updates coming up soon.
Nothing but top notch hardy citrus reviews my friend 👌
Thank you! That means a lot coming from the OG himself.
@@themulberries 👴 about time to pass to torch to you young bucks 😄😁
@@VirginiaFruitGrower 😂 we'll keep the dream alive! You'll deserve some credit when we breed the first taitriquat 🍋

Good stuff guys. Can’t wait see the Tough Citrus video review also!
@@hunterlee839 same here!!
Looks good for zone pushers!
Definitely! This one seems like a good candidate for citrus folk in zone 7, maybe even a marginal zone 6!
Great review man, keep up the good work!
Thanks a lot!

Thank you and welcome to the channel!
Please continue to give updates on this one
Will do! Our plants are doing excellent right now.
Im growing some x639, but will not have fruit for a few years. You ever tried them?

Is this variety grown for a rootstock or for the fruit?
US-942 started as a rootstock (a very good one) and it was discovered afterwards that the fruit quality was actually quite good for a trifoliate orange hybrid!
Does anyone sell US942 rootstock seed?
Not that I know of yet, believe me we would be growing them!! Lots of potential variations in the seedlings. Right now Madison Citrus Nursery is the only way we know of to obtain this variety.
