Try the 85 in the bridge position. You're welcome. 😊
Bro you’re like the 100th person to tell me this, I’m grabbing one asap. Thank you.
@jordansguitarchannel3809 I've had both the 81 and 85 in the bridge position in my 1993 Soloist. The 85 has alot more natural mid range and body than the 81. Just my experience.
I’ve actually been looking for a deal on one. I love the 81, but it would be nice to change to something else as well. I’ve been doing some work on my E-II to make it the ultimate metal machine.
shit ill buy it off you lol EDIT: my 800 dollar Indonesian MH-1001 plays and sounds better than my 2k gibson lol
Lol. I believe you man, I fixed the LTD finally. It plays great, but not as great as my 2k E-II. Haha
a miced up setup would improve your vids dude
I appreciate it man, it’s actually mic’d up in this video. Not sure why it’s so compressed.
Thanks man! Just the comparison I was looking for. My money goes to the EMG 57.
No problem, man! Glad I could help.
@@jordansguitarchannel3809 It is nice to find friendly and passionate people in this guitar community who are willing to put themselves out there to lend a helping hand. Thanks brother.
You’re welcome brother. I’m here for the community man, we should all be looking out for each other and helping others grow on this journey.
seeing your opinion on needing a set up out of the box and Indonesian guitars I’d be really curious to see what your thoughts are on a prs se Holcomb I bet you’d be surprised
Honestly, I’d love to be surprised by a perfectly setup guitar out of the box. That’s like Christmas.
Just to let people know i got the 5150 1X12 combo amp back in 2017 and 3 years later i lost the green and blue channel, so when i looked at what was going on there seems to be a component that has burn out cause my tube dies, id power on with new tube it works then turn off and back on and back to the same ? the red channel is all that works now and thats all i love anyway, so even expensive amp gone bad for me as well, my original 5150 peavey never had any of this LOL !
I’m sorry to hear man, I know the old school stuff I feel was built tougher. The stuff I used and abused for shows never had issues, even had a few beers spilled on it. 😂
@@jordansguitarchannel3809 Ya thanks man, sorry to hear this has happened to you as well ,is there anyway you can get it fixed with the warranty ? Well i guess once in a while we will all have some problem's with lemon's parts LOL !
Yeah you can get it fixed with warranty. Mine had a two year warranty I wanna say, hard to keep up with everything like that.
@@jordansguitarchannel3809 I did have a 5 year warranty and i had two years left when it happened but i was kinda hesitance too do it cause i always think something will come back worse if you know what i mean !
Bro I get it, and sadly been there. My EL34 had to get the effects loop fixed came back better somehow, stronger and meaner. Guess someone up there like me. Haha
Stainless steel is impossible to crown and soften the edges. Its incredibly f hard bro. I ordered a Harley Benton with deep scratches in it and just sold it (the guy loved it). They put SS on but seem to intentionally not polish them (but they do waste time and money with worthless binding that no one wants on a superstrat). Guitar makers have a big problem with frets. Most refuse to use SS because they want that to be a premium feature they can gouge you on.
SS frets are definitely harder to work with than nickel, and it takes about twice the effort, therefore twice the cost to produce guitars with them. You can crown them, but it takes some patience and good fret files. I had to do this on my Solar guitar, just some frets were sharp.
The fishman’s for me have zero bass and there was no no thump when you chug. I’ll be honest though I love the Seymour Duncan active blackouts AHB-1 they have it all. I’m very curious if anyone on here has tried the other Seymour Duncan blackouts AHB-2 and Micks Thomson AHB-3’s? Please let me know what your thoughts are on those. Thank you and I love your channel.
Hey thanks man, I appreciate that. The blackouts have a ton of output man, it doesn’t take much for them to overdrive the amp. Haven’t tried Micks set, but I’m sure they’re tailored to be responsive and clear for super low end. He actually went to Fishman, and has a signature set that just came out.
I agree that 81 is still the king, but not in your hands bro😂 Just can't pass further than first 30 seconds with all this harshy sandy sound of yours
I appreciate the honesty man, just skip past the intro then.
Sounds like a metalzone through a Line 6 Spider
Ouch man.
So if you live in a drafty, rickety old shack in the rain forest and have no control over humidity, is there any solution? I mean other than saving up for a carbon fiber instrument...
Personally, I’d be saving money to live somewhere nicer. Maybe consult Tarzan about an insulated tree house?
True respect on everything u just said props bro I just scored one to put on my bc rich 1 pickup avenge also have the BC Rich Warlock extreme with a fisherman's looking forward to seeing the difference
Thanks bro, I appreciate it. I’d be interested to hear your opinion man, keep me posted!
@jordansguitarchannel3809 as I can tell u are dead right I Def will bro I appreciate the info I'll be in touch forsure
Love it in this finish !
Were the other LTDs you purchased demos?
2 were, but described as perfect condition and one was brand new. Another I bought used and it’s perfect.
I’ve become a boost/OD junkie. I own and have tried way too many to list and oddly enough my search for the perfect one ended when I stumbled across a certain pedal one day when I was searching for a MIDI controlled A/B/Y solution. A small company out of Oregon called Sound Sculpture. They make a MIDI A/B/Y pedal that has a boost circuit in it as well. Not sure the details of said boost circuit but it completely scratched my seemingly endless itch for the perfect boost/OD. It’s the only one I use now. I’m guessing that all it does is just boost the signal level with nothing else. No coloration or clipping of any kind or any kind of tone adjustment. It’s an amazing boost🤘
That’s awesome man. Thanks for sharing, I’ll have to look into that!
@@jordansguitarchannel3809 The device I’m talking about is called The ABYss
Thanks brother!
Are you able to compare from personal experience between this amp and the Krankenstein?
Sadly no, I wish man. I did find some awesome info about this amp relating to it though. Stay tuned for the full review!
@@jordansguitarchannel3809 Yeah I’ve never played a Rev. I played a full sized ‘Stein for a few minutes one time at a local shop. Years ago I found and picked up on eBay a little 20watt Krankenstein Jr lunchbox head and it’s a pretty sick little thing. I’m a tinkerer and had that little amp apart one day looking at it and based on some PCB markings they seem like basically the same-ish amps as certain resistor and cap locations were marked “Kstein” and “Rev”. Im curious as to how different those two amps are. 🤘
I imagine they’re not a ton different. On this Rev I’m easily able to get that Damage Plan tone. In the video I’m gonna get into some research I’ve been doing about its relation to Dime. Just making sure I have my facts straight before I go on video.
I can relate, mate. I am a ESP LTD fanboy for most of my guitar playing life, I *love* these axes. They still make great guitars, but I think they have lost some of the consistency they have been to famous for. I had an EC-1000 earlier this year, and the routings for the fretboard inlays have been awful. There were literally holes in the board, it looked like swiss cheese. I returned this one. A few weeks ago then I got an EC-1000T, and finally this one was in very good condition. The setup had to be redone, but that I don't care for, I can do this myself.
Yikes. I’m sorry to hear man. Sadly there’s a lot of things going on like that. I hear about it just about everyday. Honestly setups are always gonna need to be done with just about any guitar, even some premium guitars as well.
I never liked the effects loop on my triple rec. I did the loop bypass mod and its still just meh. To get it dead quiet can be a fight depending on where I'm getting power, but I usually bring an ebtech hum eliminator and use a ground post lift plug. Sometimes I'll have multiple noise gates like a hush in my rack and an ns-2 4 cable around my pedals. I had a lot of success also using a dbx 166xl in front of the amp. It takes the place of a compressor and noise gate, and also can add gain like an overdrive.
Thanks for the input man. I was beginning to think I was crazy troubleshooting this amp and effects loop. This setup I’m using has worked with Engl, Diezel, EVH, Blackstar, and Krank among others but not with the Mesa. I’m beginning to believe they need to do a simple serial loop, no knobs just return and send.
quick update Jordan... tried the tc sentry and I am really impressed. I pulled out the triple rec to play some Cannibal Corpse stuff/ metal zone boosting a triple. Put a new sentry in front of the amp and dead quiet with gain on amp 90%. I will probably get a couple more of these for all of my boards...
Thanks for the update man, I’ll have to grab one. 🤘
Run your gate 4CM and it will help. Also watch how much gain you use.
Thanks man, it is running 4cm already. Doing some research it appears this amp only likes certain gates.
@@jordansguitarchannel3809 Yeah I saw the comments on the Mesa page. The NS2 is terrible. Lots of tone suck with that one. I’d say try a TC Sentry if you’re looking at a new gate or the Fortin Zuul plus.
I appreciate that man. Into the tone lab I go.
@@jordansguitarchannel3809 You’ll get there. I have a sentry if you want to try it. I could ship it to you.
Thanks man, I really appreciate that. I’ll definitely let you know.
I ordered LTD Viper 256 and nut seems to be moved to a side a bit (like its factory fault) which is causing unfixable big buzz on 1st fret and D and G strings are not laying in their positions on the nut properly idk but this is not acceptable for 500 € guitar. But then again I bought it from not authoritized shop I bought it from one of these big webshops and they probably gave me guitar someone already sent it back...i have 200 € guitars that dont produce a single buzz even if they are not tuned or set up...my heart is broken...probably will replace it for ibanez...I am scared to order online another guitar in that price range, best to try it somewhere first.
Sorry to hear about your experience, unfortunately you’re not alone with the issues. I’d definitely be going to a shop and try one out in person.
I love lots of different pickups but I've always loved emgs.
Same here man, I’ve been playing them for over twenty years.
LTD had a .500 QA ratio in my experience buying many LTDs over the last few years. I consider it a failure when there are actual flaws: warped neck, unleveled frets, bad wiring or grounding, bad machine heads, etc. That’s horrible. I only buy Gibson or Ibanez now. A lot of people in comments, supporting LTD, aren’t experienced with LTD. Sure they’ve owned a couple, but they won the QA lottery. I’ve played about 100 of them and i never liked them. After owning a bunch myself i now know it wasn’t in my head.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I’ve personally found guitars really get good around the 2k mark, about the point where QC is taken seriously
@@jordansguitarchannel3809 makes sense - most of the ones i’ve played and owned were 400-1200
I have a Gibson with EMG and a Ibanez prestige with Fishmans. I play the Ibanez far more than the Gibson emgs 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Awesome man. Fishmans ain’t no joke either, keep rocking bro 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Hey man, how do you like your ESP viper? Is it physically heavy? It looks and sounds beautiful. What model exactly is that that you have? I have had my eye on them. A heavy guitar is brutal for my back, I always have to stand to play. Great video!
Thanks man! I love this guitar, it’s been perfect right out of the case. I’d have to guess it’s around 7 to 7 and a half pounds, it does a slight bit of neck dive which I’ve corrected with using a leather strap. I believe it’s just the standard Viper, and from the serial it was made in 2021.
@@jordansguitarchannel3809 right on. Thanks for the info! I dig your vids. I also am the stoked owner of a fireball 100 and the evh 5150 iii but I have the stealth 6L6 instead of the EL34. Keep up the great content. 🤘
Thanks man! Nice gear choice my brother, got some cool new gear about to be on the channel too! 🤘🤘
I've tried Fishman and I like it. It has its own tone but an 81 is an 81 and I prefer it over any Fishman. You are right, 81 is a flat equed pickup which allows you to shape your tone better. Nothing boosted, just how pickups should be equed. It's allows you to get creative on shaping your tone.
Absolutely man, it’s a great pickup and with all the advancements now in pedals and amps this should be a more popular pickup in today’s age. Amazing YT handle btw, sounds like a flatulent superhero.
Have you ever tried an EMG 85 in the bridge?
Not yet, I’ve heard it sounds awesome though. I’m looking at some different pickups to bring to the channel actually, that’s added to the list.
Still absolutely love my 2002 LTD F-200 guitar. Plays perfectly and the neck is thin but has a little bit of weight to it which is real nice. I'm sorry you had so many issues man, love Josh's signature model and I've heard nothing but great things about this guitar.
Thanks bro, I appreciate it. I really dig the older LTDs, I have an early 7 string in my collection that’s perfect. The guitar is great now, but it took a lot of work to get it there.
@@jordansguitarchannel3809 I'm not surprised as to why you're done with LTD's. Expectations are very high especially with a name like Josh Middleton attached to a guitar and also the ESP name just oozes quality and it's the same reason why bands like Metallica have been playing them for 40 years. Just because LTD's are mass produced and made outside of Japan, shouldn't really mean much in the way of quality. I've only ever owned old LTD's, but hearing shit like that just makes me real hesitant in buying a brand new guitar in 2024. Pretty sad that quality has gone to shit and I'd rather own an 80's Jackson or BC Rich out of the new stuff that's being produced. But yea I don't think a regular JM-2 model would typically come with so many faults. But it did and that's really shit on you.
Bro stay tuned to my channel man. I personally wouldn’t buy a new guitar unless it was an ESP or E-II, and even then I’m a bit hesitant. Honestly you can find some used E-II that are the same price yet better quality than LTD. I do this channel built on honesty man, I’m about to drop some shocking stuff.
Mine was made in korea, i always gut my guitars and mod them. Its never stock. Wasnt sure if i heard right, but did u say it was a demo?
Yes this was one was a demo. It’s been overhauled now and after some work and months it’s actually a pretty nice axe.
@jordansguitarchannel3809 glad u got it resolved. The demos I got would always need some work. Have a nice day!
Thanks brother, you as well!
I see you got the 6L6 combo behind you. Would you recommend the combo version of the EL34 amp? Apparently the combo has a sort of "power attenuator" pot on the front panel, that goes from 50 watt, all the way down to 1 watt. Does this make the combo suitable for home use? I assume when you dial the attenuator pot down, the volume of the amp will also go down and isn't on full blast as soon as you turn the volume a hair up from zero. Thanks! This was a good video.
Hey man thanks for watching. For home use I’d definitely recommend the combo, it does have an attenuation dial and does get super quiet. It also has a headphone jack on the back for silent use. This combo also has nice reverb that actually sounds good as well. A full video is coming of this btw. Stay tuned!
@@jordansguitarchannel3809 Awesome to know! Thanks for the information! I watched an older video where an EVH representative explained how the reverb on the combo has a very tiny sprinkle of chorus on it. To me that sounds good, because I personally think that a hint of chorus will always make clean tone sound more interesting and gives it a lil bit of extra depth. I will probably order the EL34 2x12 combo. My only gripe is that it weighs 90lbs! Getting it serviced when the tubes eventually fail will be a lot more challenging, compared to a regular head.
It definitely sounds good man, and the weight is kinda crazy. It’s totally doable to pack in into the box and move it. I repacked mine when I moved a few years back, if nothing else it’s great exercise.
Sorry to hear about your issues. My JM-II was perfect right out of the box. Has become my main recording guitars for heavy guitars.
Thanks bro, I appreciate it. I was able to fix the issues thankfully, I play it a lot now. It’s actually gonna be in the next video, stay tuned. 🤘
You da mannnnn!
Muchas Gracias!! 🤘🤘
You talking about Glenn the guy who had never been in a band and doesn’t play lead guitar ever, that guy?
Why no, good sir. Whatever do you mean?
How would you adjust for a 7 string? In Drop G , wanna get it as tight as possible
What’s the scale length?
@@jordansguitarchannel3809 have two a Schecter with 26.5 and a carvin with 25.5
I would go with something like Stringjoy 11-70 or 11-74 to give you the proper tension to start. Then simply raise the bridge slightly to eliminate any buzz, that should give you what you’re looking for. Also important is to keep an eye on the neck with super heavy strings, the extra tension can cause it to move.
My favourite pickup, better than Fishman Fluence \m/
Hell yeah! 🤘
Anything similar but on a budget ? I used to have this and love it but can’t afford it nor find a cheaper clone

Oh I see. Hopefully the Boss works out for you man, wish I could help more.
@@jordansguitarchannel3809 actually you helped me a lot because I came across the os2, people apparently talk trash bout it but the dude from converge used it back in the day and they are super cheap

Right on man, thank you. I highly recommend picking one up if you find one, they’re pretty rare.
Fuck, this was impossible to find, cheers man convinced me to buy this thing sounds absolutely massive.
Awesome man!! I believe you’ll be very happy with this amp, it’s so brutal.
@@jordansguitarchannel3809 I have a marshall dsl-100 but it wasn't a metal amp and needs a boost, this seems like a perfect upgrade.
You can absolutely run this with no boost, plus the noise gate on the amp is killer.
i’m currently looking into getting one of these switchers. My current setup is a 5150iii 6l6 into a 2x12. Looking at adding a Laney IRT60H, two questions I have are: Does the switcher have a limit to amp wattage (i’ve seen others that limit to heads 100w & under, both of my amps would fit that threshold but nonetheless) & is it just one singular loop into the pedal for fx, as in I run one gate in my loop right now and one upfront. Would i still only need just that one gate in the loop and it would switch it between both heads? Great video & riffing! (sorry if you already addressed this in the video & i missed it)
Yeah man no problem. You can definitely run just one gate as your pedal board is connected straight to the pedal, and switches with whatever amp you choose. I’m gonna link the manual for you to check out because I don’t actually know about the wattage deal. I was running a 100w head and a 50 watt head with no issues. Hope this helps, any other questions feel free to ask! mesa-boogie.imgix.net/media/User%20Manuals/070552-HeadTrack-web.pdf

Bro I get it, and I say do it. I love my Les Paul but choose the Eclipse over it every single time.
Look, I really respect your work with the pickups, but the benefits that the 24v mod brings to the EMG81, it interferes with the phishmans, which even at 9v already sound blurred and exaggerated in the mid/highs. A test that would be sensational is the EMG81-X at 9 and 24v!
Thanks I appreciate it. Honestly I just used it because the manufacturer states you can, and it’s a cool sound. Stay tuned I’m working on something like that.
