Burro; a stratocaster telecaster hybrid guitar build
So funny , I’m thinking of turning my tele into a strat. I don’t know if a strat bridge would on a tele. I would keep the tele bridge pick up.
Hardtail style might work out, tremolo would be difficult. I think Fender at some point did a 3 pickup "strat" design tele.
Nice video. Would be cool to hear the before and after of each alteration as you go along.
I also replaced my Fender '65 Princeton RI with new F&T elec caps. . .was having an oscillation when reverb was turned past "6" and also a hum when reverb was on . . . once the elec caps were replaced the hum went away and ditto for the oscillation . . . I also rewired V2 that Lyle Psionic Audio had on his mod page . . . amp sounds great now 😎 . . .
What does it sound like?
Please check out a couple other videos I have where I play it. Thanks for watching!😀
£1300 for a noisy amp using cheap components. Jeez!
5:36 Ted Greene's books look like the ideal ones if you want to shut yourself away in a monastery, otherwise seem to be more like a sort of dictionary or thesaurus of chords...the problem is that life is too short!
I've seen many Nash guitars. Always thought the relicing looked really amateurish. Some of the attempts at finish checking looked like they were simply drawn on with a biro. Can't believe people will pay the asking price.
They’re hard to get aren’t they? I’d love to try one
My old guitar teacher, Joe Cinderella, recommended I take the Mickey Baker book when I went in the Army back in 1966.
might want to film landscape next time
Yea I realized that mistake when I put it together. Good tip. Thanks for watching
My 73 reissue has the same problem. It's almost 18 years old and looks brand new. Unfortunately fender used poly on these. I'm contemplating doing this, too
... just use really light sandpaper. Easier
...just watch up to 3:38. Easier
You can use Old English scratch and dent furniture polish for dark woods and apply it to the finger board after you finish scraping and sanding it ' apply it to the finger board and let sit for a couple minutes and then wipe/dry it off' will not stain fingers' looks naturally aged and the more you play it' it will look like natural finger wear.
Really beautiful, sounds wonderful.
Thank you!😁
Nice job on the T, I like the mustard yellow too. You are dead right about the Nash-Strat. Terrible stain colour on the neck. I hope you manage to mode the S as well.
Appreciate the comment! The S57 is for sale as I have other Strats
@@davidmilton9616 I have all the guitars I need, but that Nash-Strat needs something done to the neck as a minimum!
@@freeelectron8261 Yea it really bugs me, thats why Im selling it. :)
@@davidmilton9616 Why don't you mod the neck to your liking and sell it then?
@@freeelectron8261 mods only devalue an instrument (in my opinion). Thanks!
Weird Nash used neck pickup screws on the pickguard for a “63.” Not that they are going for an accurate replica but why just the 63 and none of their other “years?”
Yea, not sure why they are doing that. Thanks!
whoever sanded & stained the back that NashStrat really made a mess. Looks like they happened to just have one stain in that tint, and decided to used it . I'd just strip it all down, take off the signed logo thingy at the headstock back, & refinish it something less crappy looking. Decent looking guitar otherwise
Absolutely love my nash guitar! The lollar pups work great for my style... I have several telecasters & tele parts casters but I always go to my nash
I’d have bought a Tagima or Harley Benton to mod over a $1k+ guitar to modo my taste. 😊
Why would you put a Fender decal on a guitar that's not a Fender? SMH.
As stated in the video...to get something I like. Not for anyone else, just me. Plus its no longer a Nash guitar.
YOU ARE CORRECT .. I APPRECIATE YOUR INSIGHT .. GREAT TO LISTEN TO YOUR THOUGHTS .. THANKS FOR THE VID ..
Thanks!
I have a 68 Princeton RI, purchased new in 2020. I have played many gigs with it. It has a very mid-forward sound. Swapped out the stock speaker for a Jupiter w ceramic magnet. Sounded good before and even better w new speaker. Fortunately this particular amp is very quiet, no hiss and has been a great pedal platform. I like it more than my 65 Deluxe RI!
Great video! David, what books do you recommend to develop our picking technique?
Thanks you! Picking is tough, fingerstyle, flatpick, hyrbid....etc. Best to search out books about the style of music you like (jazz, classical, etc) and see what you can find. Ted Greene single not soloing and some of the Berklee books may be good for picking but you might need to be able to read music. Thanks again!
Nice guitar. I like the deer horn that holds a cable.
Thanks😄
what is the pickup model/company on the bridge? i thought it would sound more twang to it , it sound less highs comparing to the 50's style
The bridge is a Fender 52 reissue. Thanks for watching
Thanks for this. I was glad to see you start with the Micky Baker book. It was my first jazz guitar book that I purchased in 1963 at the Dana Morgan music store in Palo Alto and was recommended by none other than Jerry Garcia who I took some lessons from when he was playing folk and bluegrass before the Grateful Dead. As you say, it’s still a great book!
Yes, Baker's book is a must have and probably the least expensive of the bunch! Thank you for watching!
I also play my 68 in larger venues and open air festival. Still works for me! And also, I was wondering what you think about changing the speaker of the 68? I saw people putting in a greenback speaker. Thank you for the video and your reply!
I've stayed with the stock speakers on my Princetons, they sound great to me. I did put a Greenback in a Deluxe Reverb reissue and its a great speaker but I'm not so sure it was worth the cost. Why are you interested in changing the speaker? Thanks for watching and the comment too!
I put an eminence Ragin cajun in my 68 custom princeton. Zero regrets
Thank you for sharing these recommandations
Appreciate the comment, thank you for watching!
Thank you for bringing these books to my attention
Thank you for the comment and for watching!
Thanks for the video- I went and picked up some of these titles at the local music store after watching this. Looking forward to working through the Mickey Baker and Ted Greene books!
Thank you!
Great recommendations.
Thank you!
Heavy duty! Nice.
Thank you!
This was fantastic. I purchased a (2017) 65 Princeton Reverb and it has exceeded my expectations. (I run the amp on Volume 3 or 4 max) - and use a Barber Gain Changer SR. Phenomenal sounding amp. Really enjoyed your informative video. oNe LovE from NYC
Thanks for watching!
Psionic Audio has some good videos on improving these.
Yes. Lyle is also very knowledgeable about Amplifiers, and shows significant upgrades. I wish I know how to do-this-stuff.
Did you modify the body or Neck to get them to fit well ? 😮
I only modified the neck. Check out my other video at time 6:40 for a description on this. ruclips.net/video/2t2qGxuxR_U/видео.html&ab_channel=DavidMilton Thanks for watching!
I have a very clean 1966 Sano model 25WR w reverb/tremolo, 2- 12 inch cts alnico speakers. I plan on taking it to a tech soon to have it completely gone thru.
Nice. You dont find too many of these Sano's around. Not familiar with the 25WR.
@@davidmilton9616 The 25WR is 25 watts, (3) 12ax7- (1) 12au7- (1) 7199- (2) 7591 power tubes, (1) 5y3gt rectifier all point to point wiring - looks to have the same reverb tank as yours.
Nice one, I've got a Strat body going spare and a set of tele pups. You've convinced me to build one. It's going to have all tele electronics. Cool
Would like to see it when you get done! Thanks
Hey love this and I am wanting to do something similar with an epiphone sg and a strat

Cool !!! Rock & Roll burro!
I don't know about the reissues but I have a original 1965 Princeton reverb and if I plug an extension cab into it (a single 12" closed) leaving the internal speaker plugged in it screams.
Thanks for watching. You may wish to proceed with caution plugging in extension cabs/speakers while leaving the internal speaker plugged in. You actually get less power and put stress on the output transformer, which can easily lead to failure.
A true visionary. Out here repping the Bad Monkey before it was cool.
Thanks for watching!
We wanna hear it. Great ideas all round, the strap hooks are a must, copywrite the design.
Hey Guilio, thanks for the comments! Check out my other videos to hear the guitar.
Don't get the new ones. They are cheaply made. They won't last.
No they aren’t. I have several Fender Princeton amps. The new ones as of 2024 are still killer amps and still made well. My most recent one from 2022 - i gig all over and it still sounds great. Fender amps are great amps for the money.

Rotosounds are the most amazing strings I have ever played. I play Roto Pinks(9’s). The beautiful bell like tones you get are amazing!
Awesome..will do the same upgrade with caps..I'm deluxe reissue..it went down a year into my ownership..they fixed it ??and has been fine ever since..i have changed some tubes but nothing else..i am not schooled enough to do my own work..but i know a guy..lol..am thinking of putting the two rock speaker in my deluxe..thanks for this.
2007 i purchased. deluxe.
Thanks for watching, :)
Lots of hum on these, stock, even with the reverb plugs disconnected from the chassis. Pulling v3 makes it go away. Bad lead dress and likely not the proper grounding scheme in this amp.
Yes I agree, mostly poor lead dress. This can be corrected easily. Using good NOS tubes in V2 and V3 helps too. Thanks
@@davidmilton9616 I spent hours with a client's amp on the bench troubleshooting, and this particular issue looks like it may require a different grounding scheme. More to come... this is apparently a very common issue with these amps. I do have to say that no movement of any wires that are present in the amp made any affect whatsoever on the hum.
@@ChonkTek I usually replace all the filter caps with F&T's too. That always helps. Thanks for watching and your comments.
Was looking for a video for this, girlfriend said you're legit by the amp cord tangled in the antlers. Left satisfied. xD
LOL. Thanks for watching!😀
