I refuse to let anyone else repair anything I own, if there is a chance to do it myself. And, when I don't have things to repair around my house, I buy broken things and repair them too. My videos will show you how various repairs are done, so don't be afraid to try and DIY!
RAV4 2000-2006 Check Strap Upgrade - open the back door fully to 90 degrees!
IMPORTANT NOTE: Be mindful that the reason for the shorter original check strap on your model may be due to driving on the left side of the road. When fully open, the door and spare wheel obscure the lights on the right side, which is dangerous and could lead to an accident when parked. I recommend adding a reflective strip to the side of the door, so that it is visible in case you have to open the door fully while parked in the dark. Alternatively, be aware that the check strap still has two partial stop locations, so you don't have to leave the door opened fully if its not necessary.

Unexpected Upcycling: building a new server from an OLD server! IBM System X3400

I wanted to build a tower server with lots of hot-swap SAS disk bays, but case options are few and far between. However, with some creativity and hackery, one can retrofit ATX parts into semi-proprietary IBM System X (now known as Lenovo ThinkSystem/ThinkServer) Tower Servers. These machines are cheap (i bought mine for 60GBP incl. shipping) and spacious, and are therefore well suited for custo...

Broken Fuji FinePix camera from 2008 - can it be fixed?!
Просмотров 17 тыс.3 года назад
I recently bought a malfunctioning Fujifilm s1000fd digital camera from 2008 for only £15. In this video, I will walk you through how I fixed the camera and give a short review of what kind of performance a 12-year-old camera provide. The camera had a broken display - this video can be used as a loose guide on how to replace the screen for this camera, should you want to do so.

So what are the bad combinations that lead to discharging etc.?
I got my shell today and was almost finished. (I had to leave for work) All I gotta do to put the faceplate back on and screw it together.
i regret following this guide
sorry to hear that! what went wrong?
tried this and after reassembling it, the x button isn’t as clicky as before 😢
did you use the original or aftermarket buttons?
I changed the throttle body with a used one, and now my Corolla is idling at 1200 rpm regardless of coolant temperature, sometimes it revs up to 1400 rpm when engine reached 90 degress. Can the throttle body i changed too have IAC problems? The screws on the IAC are very rusty and very hard to find new screws at hardware store in Norway...
Yes, very likely the IACV could be the cause
Can you tell me which firmware you are using and where to get it? Otherwise, thanks for this fabulous guide.
Seriously had an issue in the first minute. Should mention it's easier to remove bottom silver lining before trying to remove home buttons from bottom left corner
How do you get the roof rails
is it okay to keep some original parts? i want to reshell my psp but only the wearing off parts (the body). the buttons looks okay to me
yes, and thats what i actually recommend! original buttons are the best
I've got one of these in my loft. One of the keys is much louder than the rest, what do you think might be causing this and how can I fix it (with limited electronic skills). TIA.
Its very difficult to say, i think you should disassemble and inspect everything. What really helps here is that you have other keys that work normally, so you can compare the key, rubber membranes, contact pads, and see if there is anything wrong. I think velocity sensitivity is done by the membrane contacting two contact pads at slightly different times, with a shorter interval when velocity is higher. It could be that there is some dirt wedged in between the membrane and they protrusions on the key.
@@TheRepairLair Thanks for your advice. :)
Just fill the valve up with oven cleaner. It strips built up carbon, varnish and dirt. Oil on the o rings is bad as it dissolves the orings leading to vacuum leaks, use fluorinated grease or synthetic wheel bearing grease.
Hint get a JIS bit for screwdriver this is a Japanese industrial standard.
Great video! Just replaced all the switches while watching your video. Everything works fine now!
very happy to know it helped!
I got a 3gen classic, bought the firewire and power block, every time I to charge it and start it, the apple comes up, then it squeeks, and the logo flips and goes to a menu. Try to restart it from menu, gibberish, then same menu. Ordered a battery to replace as first step. Thanks for the videos, I have hope.
if you have a usb cable, i would recommend trying to fully reset the ipod, it sounds like some files might be corrupted. I'm not sure a bad battery would cause this.
@@TheRepairLair Thanks for the feedback. I have tried plugging in a USB and putting it on my computer, it wont even read and i Tunes wont recognize it. Pretty sure I will be changing it to SD, need to get the adapter etc ordered. I have watched several vids including yours on doing the switch, getting my confidence up. I think your have done it in yours, but it would help if modders would add links to the parts they use, would help saving guess work. Thanks again for feedback.
@@joeholm4591 Its strange that it doesn't get recognized at all. Maybe worth looking to see if you can get a working ipod from ebay, maybe something in bad cosmetic condition? Would be a shame if you put all the effort to get it modded and it turns out to not work later
@@TheRepairLair i am planning on doing the hard drive replacement like you did, just want to get into it and then order the adapter and memory. I kind of figured I would have to do this. Watching you do yours gave me the idea to try.
Hello, nice guide, i just thought, could it be possible to integrate step-up converter into cable to keep ipod stock? I saw these cables on aliesxpress for like 10$, doesn't seem to be so complicated, maybe you can figure it out? Your mod is awesome, no doubt, but i'd like my ipod to be authentic (and not spend another 10$ for cable that can be made by myself)
What could happen if the coolant hoses are connected the wrong way?
I believe nothing bad would happen. There are no moving parts in the coolant loop, it shouldn't matter which way it flows.
If the key presses are not responding you can refine the search by sending MIDI IN, and see if the device will respond on those notes over midi.
Roland keys come up great after a short cycle in the dishwasher! I've used this many times. Works great. Nice restoration here, well done!
Oh that is a brilliant, brilliant suggestion, i never had this idea! I will do that next time, thank you!
@@TheRepairLair most welcome! Mostly I restore Rolands too, MKS70, Juno 60, 106, Alpha 2, JX8P, JX3P, TR606, VS2480, MV8000, and so on : 0
Did the 6x6x6 tactile buttons work? The factory buttons are 6x6x5, i believe... 🤔
Hmm i must have made a mistake somewhere in the video, as i did write 5x6x6 in the description. It is definitely 5x6x6!
The battery on my D5 died today. Never replaced. Bought in '89. Stored without being plugged in for YEARS. This stuff is awesome.
Can you make Bluetooth mod for the third gen?
it's definitely possible, but would not be easy to fit inside, as you can see the space is rather limited. The best option to go if you want to try a bluetooth mod is to do a solid state conversion, that may give enough space to add a bluetooth transmitter too
When you are de-soldering, what is the black and green tool in your left hand? I have my D-10 in parts as I type this. Thanks. Update - Found it, a solder sucker! It made the task so easy.
Yes! It's can also be called a desoldering pump :)
Your guidance during reassembly was shotty, jus because the person took it apart doesn't mean they can remember where every screw went
I agree, there's always room for improvement!
Would you happen to know how to resolve the check battery message? Is it basically just replacing the battery?
If the battery has died, you will need to replace the battery, and then restore the patches using a usb midi cable and an original midi sysex file.
@@TheRepairLair oh man. Do you have a tutorial on how to do that? I purchased mine from a pawn shop for 80 bucks. It's in great condition besides the battery issue.
@@GreenFrxg Sadly no, but generally speaking you just need some pc software to play midi sysex files (lots of free variants available), a usb midi cable, and the original roland sysex patch restore files. You put the d5 into sysex download mode (download and find info in manual), and start the sysex playing on the pc.
A truly excellent how to video packed with good, accurate information. I have a 2006 Matrix (1ZZ-FE) with 223,000 miles in which the idle comes down fine after startup, but is starting to occasionally drop to 500rpm. Might be time to service IACV. Also, using an xtool scan tool, I plotted RPM and IAC duty cycle, which responded perfectly to pedal snap (duty cycle increased momentarily). I think it is starting to get stuck when rotary valve is closer to closed position.
Thanks for the lovely comment! i hope you successfully service your iacv if :)
My good lad, do you happen to live in New Malden? really great video
No, im not in New Malden, but thanks for the comment!
great video! i recently modded a 5th gen ipod. They’re a lot of fun to mod!
Hi, Thanks for the great video! I have enjoyed it a lot! I have a question, maybe you know the answer. I have just bought a D-10 and the keys move side-to-side (wobble) quite a bit. Do you know how to fix it? Thank you!
Hi! Are all keys moving side to side a lot, or just a few? I don't really know what could be wrong there, if its all the keys, then its possible someone had disassembled your synthesizer before and didn't reassemble correctly
@@TheRepairLair Hi, Thanks for the answer! Unfortunately all the keys. There's a solution however. The issue is, the 'key guides' shrink as they age. You can replace them with a 3 x 1mm silicone hose cut to 5mm pieces. Now it's perfect :).
@@csabasanta5696 Awesome! Thank you for sharing this info!
Hey, I did this, but now my screen doesn't work... Do you have any suggestions?
Hi! Sorry to hear that. If it turns on (power led on), then it's very likely one of the screen cables have not been reconnected properly
thanks. i may need to perform on my 2002 sienna someday.
WARNING! These steps are correct but not in the right order! DO NOT attempt to use a metal tool to disconnect the hard drive or anything else in the iPod without first unplugging the battery!
I would have used alcohol on the key contacts to remove any residual soap. Also, I just replaced every button on the front panel. That way I did not have to go back later and replace other ones. They are cheaper when you buy them in bulk. This unit looks very similar to the U20 I have.
good point! i must have missed showing it in the video, but i did clean all the contacts with a contact cleaner spray.
If you are going to tear down a Vita this far. Just replace the screen, the Vita 1000 screens are silly cheap.
I'm not sure you can get a new OLED screen, from a quick search, all the new replacements are "lcd", ant they're not as good looking in my opinion. Do you have any links to new OLED screens?
I have the IBM x3500 (Original one I suppose) but... Minimum details... The one that I have doesn't have the power supply! This video bring me a great idea!
I'm curious! Let us know what you're planning to do :)
I wish there were links provided for the parts used.
nice build I put the serial number of the disk on the trays to make finding them faster, for when/if one fails normally the log shows it by /dev/id and sn. Still glad to see another old case not just go to the landfill.
Good Job, shame the motherboard isnt a proper server board like a dual amd epyc mobo or similiar, but great work with reusing the sas backplanes, and modifying the power button and usb connectors.
thank you! i did consider a more powerful board, but i just have no need for it
Wow awesome....wish you could work on my matrix 😢
ThroTTle
I have this synth it has about 5 dead keys scattered over in different places across the key bed is opening it a cleaning everything likely to help someone told me thatt the keys had lost there conductivity bit i really dont know lol.
it is possible that there is either dirt, or that the keys have lost the conductivity. The rubber contacts can be slightly painted over with a pencil (both on the PCB side and on the rubbers themselves) to restore conductivity to some extent
The hard part is documenting and organizing every removed part and then reversing that order in putting them back😬 Also, before I dive in with the assumption that this is my issue, can anyone confirm that a carboned IACV can cause engine stall even when I'm already on the road, every time I slightly slow to turn?
it could be the combination of both iacv and carboned up throttle plate - if the gaps of the plate at idle are fully covered, and iacv is also stuck closed, then there will be basically no air getting through
Hey whats up man. So i have a 7th gen classic with a 3000mah battery, when i plug in my charger it remains stuck in the battery charging screen and never charges up. For some reason when i use a different wall plug i still have the same problem but the menus screen will pop up i guess because the plug is stronger idk. Do you have and idea why the batt isnt charging? I sent it off to a repair shop and they said its charging fine with a regular 600mah battery they used but the one i have isnt. Ive seen many people have this same issue.
I haven't tried any of the big replacement batteries, so i cant really help - perhaps the replacement battery is bad? the fact that its of a larger capacity shouldnt be the cause of the problem
Should have used color coded spade connectors
yes, but didnt have any coloured ones on hand at that time
So is this what we need to fit those 5090 graphics cards?
What if the after you have finished The housing, the on off button works aswell as The sound but The screen is black
i would check the connections, something might be loose
very good project, congratulations mate! very inspirational video. I want to ask, why if you put warm hardware? it possible to cool ? or have to make modifications and ruin the original case? maybe cooler with liquid, you have a lot space inside.
Thanks! Regarding the cooling, since ive uploaded the video, i added bqck the three fan assembly, but with regular noctua 120mm fans instead of the originals. You can of course modify it further, like using liquid cooling, but i dont need it for my use
I've had my ol' PSP 3000 for 12-14 years now I guess. Everything stock: shell, battery, screen etc etc. Now it's time to fresh up this baby with everything new. Ordered a new shell, battery, charging port (mine is loose) and charging cable from Ali. Gonna come back to this vid in a few weeks, but it looks so good and not necessarily hard. Hope it'll go well. Thanks mate!
good luck, hope everything goes well!!!
FIRST OF ALL, GOOD VIDEO AND VERY EXPLANATORY. GREETINGS FROM PANAMA.
After watching the teardown i now have a new appreciation for the engineering of the psp
Me to years later !!! 😂 Was going to do this but I'm good I build pcs even ☠️☠️☠️☠️ to many small parts and breakable ribbons etc just a lot 😂
Its nothing to be scared of, really - just need to take your time with it!
@@TheRepairLair could you do mine ? Lol 👀 still rather not just my psp is delicate at this point due to age (had it sense I was 14?) I'm 24 now lol.
ive replaced the vita housing before and it was simple but 3000 has alot more work but i guess ill follow your video and try it thanks
