Snowflakes don't saturate. Come on man
My guess is you probably haven't spent time in winter on the West Coast, also known as the "wet coast". Much of the moisture in our snow isn't frozen so it saturates fabrics incredibly fast. If that wasn't the case, we wouldn't need waterproof clothing. We call it sierra cement because when the snow falls a good percentage of the moisture isn't frozen. Overnight it's gets cold enough and the excess moisture freezes and creates a hard firm crust because of the wet snow that fell the day before.
Which of these 3 has better breathability in your opinion ? Or if it's the same for all 3 ? I own Fortux and its breathability isn't good imho.
@Auralgregate the upper is pretty much the same. I wear lightweight wool socks with no padding and they are good but if I wear any cushion socks they definitely hinder the breathabiliity. And I'm running anywhere between 80⁰and 100⁰+ temps. Trailrunners I find in general don't have as good of breathabiliity because ma y are focused on durability. But not all trail runners are like that. Brooks, Nike and Saucony can be more breathable but, they wear down a lot quicker IMHO. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the review. Do you mind sharing the size you went for along with you're height chest size (approx)? I watched another review and it looked far too baggy at medium. Thanks.
@fosterscaninmyhand I'm 5'10" 170 lbs. It's not baggy at all. Just about everything from Inov8 is an athlete fit so your not fitting much more than a midweight fleece or power stretch under this thing.
@@fosterscaninmyhand also I was testing the medium.
@@trailhouse4607 Perfect, thanks for the reply.
thanks for your great review! what about breathability? do you stay dry during a run?
@kobus2002 I always run wearing a long sleeve under my rain shells to help with moisture management. I stayed dry for my runs under 60⁰ F. Most of my test runs were between 30 and 90 minutes long.
I'm really excited to try this shoe, it arrived today I'm a heavy runner and like a well cushioned shoe which is also fairly firm and responsive. There's plenty of max cushion options now, but they have a tendency to be too soft and even, too light for me. The last trail shoe i truly loved was the first version of Merrells agility peak flex. Ive tried version 4 (just doesnt feel right) and 5 (now too soft and squishy) and you cant get the original anymore. That being said, the market and technology has moved on and thats a dated shoe anyway. Ive searched high and low and stubbled across a youtube comment of somebody mentioning this shoe. Im familiar with lowa and own a pair of their leather hiking shoes, but hadn't seen anything about their trails runners. The stats tick all the boxes, and im just hoping they feel as good as they look.... 6mm drop, reasonably high stack, gently rockered, full contact sole, traditionally firm, multidensity midsole, light but not too light. Roomy but not too roomy inside, solid uppers, lacing, toe bumper. You can really see that lowas mountain know-how went into the design of this shoe. Can't wait to try
@johnbr59 let me know what you think? I'm glad you liked my video.
How to decide between Fortux and Amplux?
Is there any free parking in that area? Is that rock a sculpture or natural?
@keithc8108, there is not really any free parking. You definitely have to use the paid street parking. Do not park at the tunnel creek cafe, or you will get ticketed or possibly towed. The rock is naturally formed, but from the profile angle, it looks like a monkey!
imagine wearing sunscreen
I often wear sunscreen but mostly on my face and ears, but it's hard on the skin, hard on clothing and equipment, and you have to re-apply often, especially when you are constantly sweating. I prefer to get my sun protection from my clothing where I can when I can, and it does not expire, and I never have to re-apply.

Very good review. Covered all aspects of the jacket. Thank you
Would this be good for treadmill running as well or is there something else you would recommend?
You can use it on the treadmill, however. You will wear out the tread on the shoe faster. I would recommend the Brooks Launch for the treadmill.
e4607 thank you for the recommendation I will try and find a local retailer who carries those to try out!
Thank you for your efforts, you helped me to have time to research the information.
where is control without any jacket ?
Just get to the point and you talk too much.
There was too much filler talking in this video. It would be better to get to the point quickly instead of padding the video out - this should have been a 2 minute video, maximum.
Nice
Thanksfor the compliment
cool rundown. been actually interested in these new lowa models so thank you for covering these with some detail
Of course. You are welcome. You can look at my in depth reviews on each one.
Nice
Thank you!
Great video, thanks 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Tha k you very much for the compliments
These are superb for fast hiking. I regularly put about 20-30km on these on day hikes and I've yet to get a blister or plantar pain. I have long (US13.5-14) and wide feet and these fit great out of the box. Although I wear them with light hiking socks. Can't wait for the GTX waterproof version to arrive next year. It's getting a quicklace system similar to Salomon but Lowa's is a bit beefier.
Yes i would definitely recommend these for fast and light hiking as well. I dont really hike in anything else but trail runners unless it is winter and I need something more like a mountaineering boot. I am curious to see how the DynEVA reacts to the cold temperatures.
@@trailhouse4607 really good question about DynEVA and the cold. I haven't gotten to try them in anything colder than 3 deg C yet so I really don't know what they'll be like if I'm running or hiking in snow. I plan to find out this winter on a mountain loop I hike in a few hours. I'm going to bring some waterproof socks and see how I like it. I would normally do the route in a Lowa boot. Something like a Cadin or a Ticam but both offer more support than I really need and they're damn heavy.
Had quite a few different Lowa hiking and mountaineering boots in the past, just recently learned they also venture now into trail running. Also nice review!
Thank you very much for the compliments. I still have my Weishorns as my favorite mountaineering boots. Hope this review was helpful
Great review
Thanks, any time!
Great review and telling what is different about the 3 shoes. I’ve run in the Lowa Fortux today, normaly I run with Novablast 3 tr. I like the Lowa trail shoe, looking forward seeing your review on the Fortux.
Thank you for the compliments. I will be releasing the Fortux tonight and the comparison video for all 3 tomorrow morning.
'promosm' ✌️
Is the toe box comparable to altra? Or is it a little tighter?
Altra usually has a wider foot box with the anatomical foot box they have. This Lowa is definitely a tighter fit if you are comparing the two in the mid and forefoot. I would definitely size up if you have a wide foot like something wider than a D width or flat footed.
I also like that this style only has a 4 mm drop giving you slightly more support and protection than a comparable Altra like a Lone Peak or Superior with their standard 0mm drop
@@trailhouse4607 Currently have the superior 4's but its time to retire them and there seems to be a lot of durability concerns on new altra's. Any experience with the amplux?
@jackstanton yes, the Amplux has a 6 mm drop. Much wider footboard and triple density EVA. A lot going on with that shoe. I have not seen any durability issues with any of my Lowa ATR shoes. I'm putting my first impression videos together on the Fortux and Amplux shoes and will have those posted later this week.
@@trailhouse4607 Awesome! Thank you for the info. Great reviews by the way keep it up!
Great video!
Thanks cliff. There is more where that came from.
This is a great review! Have you used it with a hydration pack?
Yes I have used a few different hydration packs. I would recommend something 1.5l reservoir if you are planning on wearing this over your hydration vest and not one that uses bottles. If you are wearing the Hydration vest outside then it does not matter as much what kind of vest it is. The higher up it sits on you the better. Just keep in mind when wearing a pack on the outside water can penitrate the fabric when it gets between the vest and the jacket over time. Wash and retreat with a DWR like Nixwax.
Thank you so much for your response! I have been trail running in the rain and snow for years only wearing wool longsleeves without a rain jacket, but I know i've just been foolishly lucky. I was just so intimidated with all the factors you have to consider with a trail running jacket-- the weight, the waterproof ability PLUS durability under the pack. The extra input about wearing the pack under vs. over the jacket is super helpful. Thanks so much @@trailhouse4607 !
Nice review. I have a silly question from a running newbie. What is a "PU" wrap?
Great question! Polyurethane is commonly referred to as PU. I should have mentioned that in the video. Thanks for asking.
I feel compelled too buy this shoe ..😊
How's the outsole grip? Cushioning for runs < 10k ?
The grip on these is superior to most trail runners with similar Cushioning. The grip does need about 5 miles to break in but actually gets better after the initial break in. The Cushioning is very good and makes the running require less effort. More than enough for a 10k but again Cushioning preference will always differ person to person. Comparable to a LA Sportiva ultra Raptor but with better grip. Hope that helps. Stay tuned for my 50 mile review in a few weeks.
@@trailhouse4607 Thanks! I'm torn between these and the G 295
@MadLadsAnonymous the G295 is more of a fitness and road running shoe. Definitely not.ment for any trail running. If you looking at trail I would recommend. The Parkclaw G 280 or the Trailfly Ultra G300 for you want something lighter and more nimble for 10k distance or less, although they can definitly be used for longer runs depending on your overall foot strength.
@@trailhouse4607 Sorry, isn't the F-lite G300 a fitness shoe? You mention trail a few times; I know there's a Ultra G 300 meant for trails. I am referring to both the G295 and G300 fitness shoes that many fitness channels have reviewed for lifting and Crossfit sessions. Apologies if I've misread your reply!
Ahh yes sorry, yes I would say that the G295 would be much better for running than the G300. The G300 is more focused on a gym shoe an not much of a running shoe beyond sled pushing and pulls and the shorter runs. Grip is going to be very good and it's a comfortable shoe but again was not built to be as much of a running shoe as it is a gym shoe.
We love The Lodge!!!
Carley the owner is great too.
How much did you pay for boot fit?
My current boots are good, and fitted them myself as I was a master boot fitter way before i moved to Reno. Next time I need a new boot or adjustment, I know where to go. Outside mag rated him amongst the top 15 best boot fitters in the country.
Bud includes any fitting for the season if the boot is purchased in shop. For others it can range from as little as $30 up to $200 with whatever work is completed. Custom footbeds start at $99 (I think) Hope all is well
Interesting video. Learned a lot.
HI I like the video
Much appriciated..look for more content this weekend.
Does having an extended grip negate the need for the pole to also be extendable or do you change your pole length too?
It is pretty rare for me to need to change my pole length one the uphill climb but once I'm going downhill my poles are typically longer as the slope is now going away from me so having an extendable pole is necessary most of the time. That being said you can get away with a fixed pole but you will make some sacrifices along the way.
Those Smith Persuit face shields are cool but that price tag is heavy. I’m not normally an Oakley fan boy but the Wind Jackets are ridiculously good. The built in forehead sweatband is clutch for both moisture management but works amazingly well for blocking wind on fast descents.
Great video, Sean! Can't wait to see more!
Thanks so much!
Awesome! Looking forward to more videos!
Working on it! Just added a few more videos. Much more to come.
