In this video, I show you the headache I went through to turn this truck back around! From stock to rock, it took a good bit! From waiting on parts and multiple other hold-ups, I finally made it happen! 2 days after I shot the last clip, the fuel pump went out! This thing should now be reliable enough to get me through what I've got planned! Thank you all for reading this, subscribing, and watc...

In this video I go over the basics of doing some frame repair on a GMT900 platform. Had a few mishaps and lost a little footage due to a full SD card and a dead battery; but overall, I think it all turned out good. Always remember to wear all of you PPE/Safety Gear! @@moejr14 I wish I would’ve found a JK D44 for the rear of this thing but I ran out of time!
I have done a 2006 Ford truck frame and tube repair. Getting ready to do a 2013 repair about the same as yours. Vehicles are made so bad today. I have a 76 F250, rust free frame and body. Ridiculous new designs are so flawed.
Great job! Would you mind sharing the links to the plasma cutter and the undercoating? Looking to do similar work on my truck this summer. Thank you!
Amazing work and a great job sir !!!
Thank you!!!
Any motor mods??
None, yet. If the 3.7 lets go, I’m going to swap in a late model LV3 4.3
Whats the build cost if you do for someone
Not sure right off hand but I would beat most other shops prices!
Do you have an email. Like yo ask a few questions
Man i would love to deer hunt that
Definitely some good hunting up here!
Beautiful creek ! One of my favorite spots to visit with my family ❤
What a coincidence 😉
Where are you located? Would you take on other rust jobs like this?
I’m in southern Ohio and I will be taking on jobs as soon as I get my new shop built!
I'm watching your video because I want to see where to take mine I obviously don't want to go as far as you did but I'd like to do some off-roading casual trail riding maybe if you nothing major so what would you recommend for someone that wants to do some trail riding nothing too rough just to get my hands dirty for the first time
@@bryanmiller516 I hope to get back on this build soon! I’ve be looking for another liberty to build for casual wheeling. What I would recommend is what I plan to do on the next one, a 2.5” lift and some 31” tires. These little things do pretty good! Maybe a locker in the rear if you want a little extra traction!
Now in about 2 Plus yrs the frame will break around all the welds you made! Hopefully not but i seen it to many times. That steel is garbage and they knew that when they made these trucks! It's sickening seeing all these trucks like this because a company wants to watch there bottom line and not make a truck that will last 30 yrs! Almost like they made them disposable!
@@troybrake5686 it came back over a year later for unrelated repairs. The repairs I made still looked perfect! This truck hauls wood multiple times a day so I figure if something I fixed would’ve broke, it would’ve done so by now. Haven’t had a truck come back yet for failed repairs! Fingers crossed!
@millwright15 that's good then! I seen a bunch of patched Toyotas that would just keep breaking. A lot of it has to do with who welds it to. To much heat and it's definitely going to eventually, weld it as low as possible and and stitch weld to keep from overheating and it could last. At least last the rest of the trucks life. Most repairs I seen were on farm trucks just trying to buy a few extra yrs cause they don't go far from home!
You millwrights!!!! Pipefitter here. upstate NY. All rust zone. Doing the same stuff to my truck. Except making my own caps. Thinking now I might buy the caps next time and make it a little easier on myself. Probably not. These frames suck. My 3/4 ton made in 95 still holding up. My 2011 not so much. Did the repair between the gas tank and inside frame. 6x2 rolled channel, cut one side of channel leg off and mitre up for the bend of wheel well frame. Welded up mitre. Moving on to the same spot of frame you are doing. What thickness was the cap metal? 3/16",. Great job though and very well done. Mishaps are going to happen no matter what. If we're not making mistakes we're not working. We just try to do the best we can. What else is there. Again great video millwright.
@@joecuyler752 hey, Pipefitter! I think the thickness was just under 3/16”. I have made many of my own repair sections but now only do so if that section isn’t readily available, for time saving purposes. Crazy how well the older trucks hold up in this rust belt!
Where did you find your wheel adapters
@@patricktobin7923 Amazon, I tried to find the link but it’s been too long. These were 1.5” thick
Interesting to watch, from the cab on back on my '08 it had a lot of frame surface rust there wasn't much of the factory wax coating left, and I'm glad I took the time and needle descaled some of the flakey places and phosphoric acid cleaned almost any place of the frame I could see down to grey clean steel, then coated it with kbs rust seal and sprayed the inside of the frame with fluid film so I won't have to worry about it getting this bad. That was in 2020 and I had not done that it would be on the way to the same real bad condition. Thanks for making this video.
@@justinbailey2806 thank you for watching! I appreciate it!!
Nice work! Hit me up if you don’t have a long term investment portfolio! Can get you set up on several self employment options for retirement!
I appreciate it! I have a pretty good plan, as I have a few other jobs. If I run into trouble I will reach out! Thank you!

What do you charge and where are you located at? I need the similar treatment on my truck. I'm not too far from southern Ohio being in dayton

Finally someone using an expensive microtech knife like it should be used!
@@marvinfairway I don’t have any knives that are safe queens!
Thankfully, the frame on my 2006 Silverado 1500 has been sprayed with fluid film for the last number of years inside and outside the frame pipes, and the frame rails so it is very solid without issues. But, if my frame started getting this bad, I think I would probably just find a southern cleaner frame and epoxy coat it and replace it. You did do a nice job though on this frame!
@@LoriTobin-z8d we tried to find another frame for a reasonable price. The ones we were able to find were out of the customers budget on this one!

🤣🤣🤣
How do you think frames are put together? 🤔🤔🤔
(a lot of rust in there, obviously) had me cracking up 1:35
Definitely had a good bit of rust! Found good metal in there to weld the plate to, though!
Dang, ya really done some magic with that frame! I thought it was too far gone at first.
@@molly18239 thank you! This isn’t the worst I’ve fixed! Just the first one the customer let me video!

How could this be cost effective? I have a 1998 gmc suburban With a couple holes in the rear fram and the rear cross member fix needs fixen. and they say 10,000 parts and labor.
@@immrnoidall I’m a fraction of that price. I wouldn’t charge that much to change the whole frame. That sounds like an “I don’t want to do it” price to me

Wish I could find a place to do this for me I just bought a 99 Silverado and didn’t look in that area on the frame and my fuel tank and shock holder cross member had rotted into and I really needed this truck

I actually just bought a truck where crispy crème is located lol and I totally agree about the donuts . I’m going through this process now of putting in crossmembers. I’ve cut off the crossmembers but now I just gotta get the tube part out of the frame. Curious will a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade cut these out ? My only thought is getting them out with a grinder at the moment. Also is there a way I can contact you if I happen to need some work done ? Thanks for the informative video and you do great work !
@@chadmichael7794 You can’t be too far away, then! A jigsaw with a metal blade would probably work just fine. Grinder with a cutoff wheel would work as well. I’ve been seeing the same plasma cutter I have on sale for $199 from time to time. If you need to get ahold of me, email chiefsoffroadperformance@gmail.com and I will help you any way I can!
Why don’t they just use thicker metal and better undercoating from the factory
