LOVELY LILIES!🪻🌼 A Walk Through the Camas Lily Fields at Lacamas Park
Well, it’s April which means the beautiful Camas Lilies are blooming at Lacamas Park.
They won’t be here for long so get out here as soon as possible.
By the end of the month or early May, the bloom will be over.
SOME FACTS!!!
The city of Camas was named for the flowers. Originally called “La Camas” meaning The Camas in French, the name was changed in 1906 to just “Camas” to avoid confusion with La Center in northern Clark County.
Camas Lilies were a very important food source for the native tribes in this area. The roots contain an onion like bulb which was either pit roasted or boiled which took about two days!
Tribes used controlled burning to provide places for the lilies to grow. Thes...

EXPLOSIVE! BNSF #7035 With an Eastbound Unit Tank Train Vancouver, WA🚂
Просмотров 86Месяц назад
Here we see an eastbound tanker train being led by BNSF #7035 an ES44C4. The Land Bridge is one of my favorite railfanning spots. Not only do you see plenty of action on BNSF’s Fallbridge Subdivision but, you’ll also see planes taking off and landing at PDX and Pearson Field, boats and ships along the Columbia River and, cars driving along Highway 14. Oh, and on clear days, you get a fantastic ...
POLES AND PONDS! 🦆Exploring Salmon Creek Greenway: After the Ice Storm🥶🧊
Просмотров 374 месяца назад
After a week stuck in the house, I had to escape. It definitely was one of the largest ice storms I’ve experienced; only the one in 2004 was worse. Luckily, the S-L-O-W but, gradual melting had begun and the roads were getting better so, I had to just find a place to get some fresh air. Salmon Creek seemed like the perfect spot. We start in this little clearing that I happened to stumble across...
ICE ICE BABY! The Vancouver, WA Ice Storm of 2024🥶🌨️🧊

The snow was bad enough at first but, now we are dealing with an even bigger enemy, ICE! A nice layer has built up over the couple inches of snow already on the ground. It’s been nearly a week since I left the house and I’m getting quite the cabin fever. Big thaw supposedly begins later today into tomorrow. We’ll see about that!
Short Intermodal Train at Vancouver, WA 12/17/23🚂

A rather short intermodal train crosses the Columbia River bridge as it heads northbound past Vancouver station. Union Pacific #5405 does the pulling. Passengers meanwhile, await the arrival of the northbound Amtrak Cascades about ten minutes away. I was very cold but, watching trains makes up for it. Sundays are always busy at Vancouver Yard.

Our neighbor across the street is a total weirdo. Decides to rinse the leaves off his car with the garden hose as it’s raining buckets! It was sunny the previous day. Finally realized it was raining and gives up in defeat!

In this video, I take you along the trails of Whipple Creek Park a few miles north of Vancouver, WA. We will be exploring the curious remains of the park’s fascinating and somewhat bizarre history. HIDDEN HISTORY! Exploring the Abandoned Mount Hood Highway and Tunnel🗻

While visiting Little Zig Zag Falls on the western slope of Mount Hood, definitely check out this unique historic oddity. This section of the Mount Hood Highway (now US 26) was built in 1923 and used until the early 1950s when the present route was constructed over Laurel Hill. In 1935, the Civilian Conservation Corps built a stone faced tunnel under the highway for hikers and was built tall en...
SUPER SCARY!😬Scrambling Down to Necktie Falls and WARNING! 👔💦

WARNING!!! This is for EXPERIENCED HIKERS ONLY! Conditions can change anytime. Do not attempt this in Winter or after it rains or snows. Necktie Falls is actually the top portion of Wahkeena Falls where the creek splits around a rock and begins a 242 foot drop to the bottom. Back in the 1920s, a viewpoint with stairs and railings were constructed to provide access to this area. Unfortunately, t...
Beautiful Wahkeena Springs, Columbia River Gorge
Просмотров 1311 месяцев назад
Wahkeena Springs is my absolute favorite place in the whole gorge! Located about a mile and a half up the Wahkeena Trail from the Historic Columbia River Highway, the creek literally emerges from underground. A great place to rest or have a picnic while out hiking. The water is the purest. I’ve drank from the springs dozens of times and never got sick from it. No filtering necessary.
FLOWERS GALORE! The Camas Lilly Fields at Lacamas Park🪻

It’s springtime at Lacamas Park which means the Camas Lilies are in bloom! These beautiful flowers only are around for just two or three weeks a year so go check them out while you can. This one of the better blooms I’ve seen in recent years. The local indigenous people used to harvest these plants for food.
Weisendanger Falls, Multnomah Creek, Oregon
Просмотров 16Год назад
Weisendanger Falls (also known as Upper Multnomah Falls) is about half a mile upstream of its more popular sibling. The Larch Mountain Trail provides a great view of the 90 foot falls. The switchbacks were VERY slick because of the ice and snow. Even in summer, this section is notorious for shifting rocks that could cause you to lose your footing. Definitely not for amateur hikers!
SPRINGING TO LIFE! Wahkeena Spring, Columbia Gorge, Oregon💧

Wahkeena Spring is my favorite spot in the Columbia River Gorge! Wahkeena Creek begins its 1.5 mile journey to the river here and is a great place to take a break or have a picnic while hiking to Multnomah Falls or Angel's Rest. The water is totally safe to drink without a filter(I've been going here for 15 years and never got sick from it) and it is so pure and refreshing. The water also makes...

Pretty close on your history here. I'm a local and live on this line and have studied up pretty far on this line with some friends and noticed just a few errors but overall good and informative video! Edit: 211 is an SW1200 and yeah it definitely could use a freshening up but I still love it

Love the history especially the RR aspect of the NW. I visited some Navy friends in Portland around early 2000s. It was a beautiful area. I don’t feel safe in blue states so theses videos are a great way to re experience that part of the country.

The horns sound like Nathan/Airchime M3s. Probably built by Bob Swanson himself...

Why does it need a horn I think the siren is enough

    • @jordansean18
      @jordansean18 Месяц назад

Sirens are to alert the interstate freeway traffic that they all need to come to a stop. Horns are to tell the boats the bridge is opening / closing. The horns are MUCH louder.

That bridge is cool except it’s an expressway and this is rather insane for an expressway. St John and this needs to switch locations😂.
