  • WARNING!!! This is for EXPERIENCED HIKERS ONLY! Conditions can change anytime. Do not attempt this in Winter or after it rains or snows.
Necktie Falls is actually the top portion of Wahkeena Falls where the creek splits around a rock and begins a 242 foot drop to the bottom.
Back in the 1920s, a viewpoint with stairs and railings were constructed to provide access to this area.
Unfortunately, the viewpoint is mostly forgotten today and in severe disrepair. Do not trust any part of the railings! It’s probably been decades since the Forest Service last maintained it. There is also a lot more loose rock and blowdown since the devastating 2017 fire; one wrong move could turn you into part of the waterfall!
ACCESS: At the top of the switchbacks along the Wahkeena Trail, turn left for about 20 yards and look closely for a tread heading off the trail to the right, now carefully negotiate down toward the creek while negotiating overgrowth and loose rocks; eventually, you’ll see the railing and let your curiosity lead the way!
