Yamaha Motorcycle Demo Ride (2015)- St. Paul, MN
Just picked one of these up. How do I ensure oil injector is working? Thanks for the great videos.
thanks. the Air boxes mission is to reduce noise. it does not remove fine dirt.
I have the same sled! Bought my V-Max 700 SX new in 1996 for $6499.00 U.S. In order for the fuel pump to fill all three carburetor bowls with fewer rope pulls, I use an oil can mixed with fresh 32:1 premium gas and Yamalube. 1 shot of gas/oil in each cylinder, then screw the spark plugs in finger tight until she starts. Full choke until the engine fires, then half choke. The three cylinder engine may require up to two oil can squirts of gasoline per cylinder before engine finally springs to life. Start sled outdoors with fire extinguisher within arms reach.
I go to cadillac. To ride Good place to ride. It has been three years I do hope i get to go again this year
90 is low..
It looks like you replaced some of the vent tubing also. Do you recall what size you used? Thx
Great sleds. I have a mint 01 vmax 700 deluxe. Motors last forever
5:29 Uh ye.... Just over 90 psi is "Good News"? Let's hope your comp. tester is a P.O.S. that is reading low. "Should be between 90-100" I don't think so. sorry hoss
Very good video but the screws holding the trims on are Allen screws which are a hex key. Please do not use torx tools on Allen (hex) fixings.
Is the battery cover strap fixing a hex or is it Torx? Any help appreciated!
@@IllIl It is a simple hex allen wrench. Air filter and air box covers 5.5 mm, battery cover strap 4.5 mm.
My sled runs great now, thanks bud!
try gas down the cylinder...
Big ups, I got a lot of good insight from this. Thanks!
Did you find the screen he was talking about? I sure didn’t
@@Ddddeddd Timestamp? I'm not sure what you're referring to
@@mdood9299 3:05
@@Ddddeddd The piece he's holding around 3:25-3:30 has a mesh filter inside of it. That component is under the float assembly. Remove the float assembly (automatic center punch really does help) it's the tube the float slide rests in. After removing the float assembly, you can see it's retained by a screw.
@@mdood9299 yeah mine sure didn’t have a screen. Maybe it ingested it. I cleaned that carb and blew it out thoroughly and will do the same to the other two and throw them back in with new fuel lines
Do you pull compression test on a warm cylinder? As piston warms and expands to fill the bore.
How did you take the positive terminal off you didn't show that. Have you got to take the seat of to get to it.
Woohoo! In New Zealand they used Allen keys!
Also in the UK too.
There’s no big difference, apart from the name…
Do you happen to remember what size torx bit you needed for this job? I played and re-played your video, but I only heard you mention the size of the socket needed, but not the size of the torx. I am going to help my son-in-law change his battery and add a battery tender, in 2 days. If I had to guess, I would say it was probably a size T10, can you confirm?
i just check my 96 enticer11 and its at 120psi on the two piston and i have a 2000 venture 600 tripple and it gives me 120psi on the three piston so it must be good for a while
Thanks for posting your video! I needed a good refresher on how to get to the battery (I have a 2013 Speedmaster), and your video was perfect! Your America looks great too!
There's a clip on the coolant line where the rope goes through it's a slider it's it's a clip on the rod hose support that the pull cord goes through so it doesn't bind up
Check your belt deflection way too tight your belt
Hello! Thx from France. It was very useful, and i was able to claim to my wife "hey ! i'm a mechanic!". Thx for sharing.
Nah man. That thing needs a rebuild. Rings may do the trick. But you should also check compression when its warm so parts are expanding in the cylinders. Should be at least over 110. 120+ is optimal. Also doesn't matter much if you hold the throttle down or not. Really makes no difference.
Good thing I got it sold a few weeks after the video was made. No more worries.
your right i try holding the throttle and not holding and i got the same reading
Can u post a link or exact description of these fuel lines?
Thank you so much for sharing the knowledge!
I used Tygon line, a year later on every single sled of mine the Tygon has become rock hard and is leaking at the carbs.
It didn’t start all of those times because you pull like a bitch also the carbs are dirty too.
Very helpful , thank you !!
ive searched well over 100+ videos, this is hands down the best/most in depth video i have seen, why this doesnt have more views blows my mind!!! thank you for what you do!
Definitely need to clean the carbs after sitting that long. You’re supposed to clean them yearly regardless and it’s not too difficult at all.
Do you still mix the fuel? Or just put your oil in the little tank?
I don't premix. Mine. I have both tanks. I use Amsoil in mine. I use NGK number nine spark Plugs.
Wanna sell it? Looking for a sked
If you remove the throttle cable first it's easier to get the airbox off
It is a10 mm
That engine is in need of a top end
Yeah it was on the low side. I sold some of my snowmobiles as I want to spend more time riding and less time maintaining them. Seems like the reverse has been true in my case.
the porn music helps the job suck less !
Different colours? Painful to watch...
Clean the carbs fresh gas new plugs it's a Yamaha she'll fire right up best sounding and best snowmobiles ever made by Yamaha
Next snowmobile I own will be a fuel injected one. Spent way too much time on maintenance and less riding throughout my past.
Belt way too tight is your problem
The starter cord had been routed incorrectly by a friend as he was trying to start my snowmobile. The technical manuals do not really show how to route the starter cord. Had to go look at a similar used snowmobile to finally figure this out.
@@vulcanizerrecreationalvehi5182 I wish you would have shown how it was routed in the video haha. The previous owner of my sled had it improperly routed aswell.
There are some pics at the end that show the routing, however I couldn't find an illustration in any technical manuals that clearly show how to route it. My apologies if the pics are not sufficient. I sold the sled a few weeks after making the video.
His a sx viper 700 the same even if my head his black? Because i wante to no what his the original compresiion on those motor!
Sir, I would check a manual for SX viper 700. This snowmobile is older and has different compression. 120 psi is considered best.
Thanks for posting. I'm trying to do the same on the the battery tender thingy. My average battery lifespan was only 2 years. Hopefully it able to prolong the battery.
I had a sport bike where I charged up the battery at the end of my commute day. That battery lasted 5 yrs. It does make a difference when you charge up battery daily or leave it on a tender.
05:25 If you tilt the battery towards you, you will have easier access to the terminals (namely the positive terminal). 06:15 That second wire and the corresponding split-loom is not stock/factory. Someone has added an aftermarket something. Because of the original design, adding connections to the battery interferes with reinstalling the battery the way it was intended. The red cover over the positive terminal is meant to go down completely over the battery terminal and insulate the connection from all angles. The battery cover piece is meant to easily cover the red insulator and hold it in place without the insulator trying to push it upwards and deform the plastic cover. I'm envious of the ease at which you can reinstall the battery strap. My 2013 Speedmaster is a huge PITA to get the holes lined up and the screw to thread in straight. I always wonder if it was terrible engineering by Triumph or something caused by the idiot original owner. I use the derogatory term for someone who I've never seen nor met based on the aftermarket items added to the bike and all the associated cross-threaded and stripped screws. Apparently, the previous owner thought that when a screw becomes hard to turn and the part is still loose just apply more force. They also deleted the kickstand switch on bike with 2k miles for some reason and left bare twisted together wires with not even a wrap of electrical tape to protect them from the weather. I think the "i" word is fitting for this unknown previous owner of my bike.
Your note sheds some light on my issues. I had no idea aftermarket parts were used. Am a former engineer who worked on OEM car components for Ford, GM and Nissan. Don't remember how many times I argued with others on ease of maintenance and assembly when designers were looking for the easy way to do their job and didn't give a 2nd thought about the end user having to deal with this long term. It happens on every vehicle product.
This is very helpful. It is a little bit cold and my triumph 2014 won't start,so i had to push it lol.. and I was looking into buying a battery or take my bike to a mechanic but after seeing this video I think I can do it. Could you post a link where I can buy this tender? And when do you know it is time to change your battery instead of just charging it? Thanks
I wish Triumph made it easier to do. I usually find out my battery is bad after I go somewhere. It is not always predictable, but you can check the voltage between the terminals. A good battery should read 12.6 V or more, however it varies between manufacturers. If it reads 12.2 or less, it might be going bad (research this though). A battery tender will make your battery last longer than 4 yrs. I had mine go 6 yrs. www.batterymart.com/c-deltran-battery-tender-battery-chargers.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzLGnjqfH7gIVSrzACh0lEQmWEAAYAyAAEgKKD_D_BwE
@@vulcanizerrecreationalvehi5182 thank you sir. Great input 👌
Thank you I will be doing the same very soon.
Am glad the video could help.
Thank you for posting this! I got my first motorcycle (2011 Triumph Speedmaster) a few months ago and I'm about to attempt my first-ever battery swap (no tender cable attachment for me though), so this was very helpful.
I found that a tender charging cable can make a battery go longer. I charge it after every ride, so the voltage stays at the maximum. My last battery went 6 yrs. Helps too if you dont pull battery in cold weather to keep inside house.
