Thanks for posting your video! I needed a good refresher on how to get to the battery (I have a 2013 Speedmaster), and your video was perfect! Your America looks great too!

Thank you for posting this! I got my first motorcycle (2011 Triumph Speedmaster) a few months ago and I'm about to attempt my first-ever battery swap (no tender cable attachment for me though), so this was very helpful.

I found that a tender charging cable can make a battery go longer. I charge it after every ride, so the voltage stays at the maximum. My last battery went 6 yrs. Helps too if you dont pull battery in cold weather to keep inside house.

Thanks for posting. I'm trying to do the same on the the battery tender thingy. My average battery lifespan was only 2 years. Hopefully it able to prolong the battery.

I had a sport bike where I charged up the battery at the end of my commute day. That battery lasted 5 yrs. It does make a difference when you charge up battery daily or leave it on a tender.

Woohoo! In New Zealand they used Allen keys!

05:25 If you tilt the battery towards you, you will have easier access to the terminals (namely the positive terminal). 06:15 That second wire and the corresponding split-loom is not stock/factory. Someone has added an aftermarket something. Because of the original design, adding connections to the battery interferes with reinstalling the battery the way it was intended. The red cover over the positive terminal is meant to go down completely over the battery terminal and insulate the connection from all angles. The battery cover piece is meant to easily cover the red insulator and hold it in place without the insulator trying to push it upwards and deform the plastic cover.
I'm envious of the ease at which you can reinstall the battery strap. My 2013 Speedmaster is a huge PITA to get the holes lined up and the screw to thread in straight. I always wonder if it was terrible engineering by Triumph or something caused by the idiot original owner. I use the derogatory term for someone who I've never seen nor met based on the aftermarket items added to the bike and all the associated cross-threaded and stripped screws. Apparently, the previous owner thought that when a screw becomes hard to turn and the part is still loose just apply more force. They also deleted the kickstand switch on bike with 2k miles for some reason and left bare twisted together wires with not even a wrap of electrical tape to protect them from the weather. I think the "i" word is fitting for this unknown previous owner of my bike.

Your note sheds some light on my issues. I had no idea aftermarket parts were used. Am a former engineer who worked on OEM car components for Ford, GM and Nissan. Don't remember how many times I argued with others on ease of maintenance and assembly when designers were looking for the easy way to do their job and didn't give a 2nd thought about the end user having to deal with this long term. It happens on every vehicle product.

Do you happen to remember what size torx bit you needed for this job? I played and re-played your video, but I only heard you mention the size of the socket needed, but not the size of the torx. I am going to help my son-in-law change his battery and add a battery tender, in 2 days. If I had to guess, I would say it was probably a size T10, can you confirm?

How did you take the positive terminal off you didn't show that. Have you got to take the seat of to get to it.

This is very helpful. It is a little bit cold and my triumph 2014 won't start,so i had to push it lol.. and I was looking into buying a battery or take my bike to a mechanic but after seeing this video I think I can do it. Could you post a link where I can buy this tender? And when do you know it is time to change your battery instead of just charging it? Thanks

I wish Triumph made it easier to do. I usually find out my battery is bad after I go somewhere. It is not always predictable, but you can check the voltage between the terminals. A good battery should read 12.6 V or more, however it varies between manufacturers. If it reads 12.2 or less, it might be going bad (research this though). A battery tender will make your battery last longer than 4 yrs. I had mine go 6 yrs. www.batterymart.com/c-deltran-battery-tender-battery-chargers.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzLGnjqfH7gIVSrzACh0lEQmWEAAYAyAAEgKKD_D_BwE

Very good video but the screws holding the trims on are Allen screws which are a hex key. Please do not use torx tools on Allen (hex) fixings.

Is the battery cover strap fixing a hex or is it Torx? Any help appreciated!

@@IllIl It is a simple hex allen wrench. Air filter and air box covers 5.5 mm, battery cover strap 4.5 mm.
