    my flight instructor would have pointed out quite sternly that above 5000ft you should set your QNH to standard 1013 hpa and thus you are no longer flying at 10 500 ft but at FL105 which can be a difference of several hundred feet depending on atmospheric pressure

    • @iflycentral
      @iflycentral 11 дней назад

      We don't really do that here. We typically use flight following if flying CC and use the altimeter setting provided by atc for their sector. Otherwise, we use the nearest AWOS setting. Breaking 10k isn't something we do regularly with the Sundowner. I've only done it twice. Once for this video and once crossing the Appalachians.

  • @archer494

    thanks for your video. that's all well and good when you have a runway you can set an airliner down on. But with the short (often grass) runways on European airfields (often less than 2.000ft and close in obstacles) a long flare like this will have you set down way beyond the middle marker. Any way to make that landing a little shorter? Approach at 60kts?

    Thanks for this. I have a 180hp B19 so basically a sundowner. Thought i had the landings figured but lately been having an issue with bouncing again. Cant quite figure out what im doing wrong and its really frustrating! Make the approach at 65knots full flaps. I think im just not letting ALL the energy bleed off and land in a full stall. I noticed your horn is blarring on both landings. So gonna try to hold off as long as possible. Any extra energy either from descent or airspeed translates to a bounce!

    FLTPlan was WAY better prior to Garmin buying it. FLTPlan pretty much showed everything back then. special use airspace, restrictions, etc. The UI was better as well. Garmin appears to be slowly crippling FLTPlan Go. FLTPlan had all the features that it does today PLUS many others. FLTPlan, in my humble opinion, was close to the quality of Foreflight. It has been very sad to watch Garmin destroy a great platform. Just a side note, the UI for FLTPlan Go on iOS is way better than on Android. FLTPlan on iOS is also better than the crazy clunk interface of Garmin Pilot. If anyone knows why Garmin is doing deploying a worse interface than the normal "garmin-nese," please tell.

    I have remote ID on my quads. So far, It's easy to hack. You could literally hide your aircraft from drone scanner apps. In other words, karens cant find you. The only people that get your remote Id is the agencies(you could turn that off too). Second, there is chip that could turn off your remote ID with a switch. You could do this with consumer drones or diy. Technically, this whole thing is pointless to have and waste of money.

      @@iflycentral I was wondering, how practical it is to use a stand-alone GPS device in a plane nowadays, compared to say iPad or a mobile phone? Do they still make those? When I was in high-school (mid 90s) I got a task to make a report on such Garmin stand-alone device and it was said to be state-of-the-art for that time period. @PappaBear_yt the panel mounted units are still a necessity for instrument operation, however, they are hardly necessary for VFR navigation these days. When you consider the fact that the data being used is already paid for by tax dollars... yeah. They are literally just using publicly available data and repackaging it in an app that makes it easier to utilize. I mean... I'd be willing to pay 20-50 bucks a year. I kinda chafed at 109.99, but 209.98 a year was too big of an ask. Especially when they are also producing another app that does it for free.

  • @andycrespo8343
    @andycrespo8343 6 месяцев назад

    Hello, great video! I'm wondering if you could help me with my landings? I have a Musketeer Super III (200hp) that I just bought, and I'm getting a nose bounce often when I land. Your landing in this video are consistently excellent! Would you be willing to share your final approach speed, and how you are flying the plane just before touchdown? I have the Madras (Demer) tips on my plane, so I'm thinking I could land slower than I do. My last plane was a Piper Cherokee and I felt like I mastered landing it but not the Musketeer yet. It seems like flying it more flat to the runway is the way verses flaring the plane. Thanks for your videos!!

    • @iflycentral
      @iflycentral 6 месяцев назад

      I fly a tight pattern, so I make a power off base turn once I see the end of the runway appear just behind my trailing edge from pattern altitude (1000' AGL). You may want to modify this a bit depending on your level of familiarity and comfort with the plane. My typical approach: Rounded power off base to final at about 85 knots indicated CLEAN, once I turn final and know I have the runway made I dump full flaps, trim is set such that I need to apply only slight forward pressure and cross the fence at about 70 knots indicated, round out about 60 knots indicated and don't look at the ASI again for the remainder of the landing, normal flare but hard back on the yoke just as the mains touch (not before & not after). Even if you bounce on the mains DO NOT try to lower the nose. That will result in crow hoping / proposing down the runway as the plane bounces backwards and forwards on the pucks. Best way to counter a bounce on the mains is to add just a little power and then bring the power back out as she settles onto the runway. One thing to note: My plane has the tail weight STC. I've never flown one without the tail weight personally, however, I've been told that adding about 50lbs to the baggage compartment has a similar effect to the tail weight. I'd suggest finding a nice long runway to practice my technique to reduce your pressure while practicing. That way you can aim for the thousand foot marker and not worry too much if you come short or go long of the mark. Because of how the plane is trimmed for this technique, you MUST be prepared to push forward on the yoke in the event of a go around. That would be especially true of your 200hp Super III.

For reference’s sake I have an IO-360 200HP and even on the hottest day I get around 330F on all 4 cylinders in cruise ~2,500’. Can easily hit 290F up at 10,000’. Do you cruise climb? Yes, I am familiar with Randal and I have seen several of his podcasts. I don't agree with all of his conclusions, however, he & I agree that there is clear evidence of past cataclysms etched into the landscape. You don't move boulders weighing tens of tons down river even at floodstage with the rivers we see today. You also can't bore holes in rock (potholes) with water, that are in some cases several meters above the curent water level, without having truely catastrophic flooding. First stop when I arrived was the Applewood Farmhouse. Breakfast every morning was at the Riverstone restaurant in Townsend not far from where I was staying. Then there was a seafood place called Pawpaw's Catfish Kitchen that was quite good. Almost not surprised about the Cirrus. :D

    I'm sorry to hear the paint has some issues, although I'll say that on the video it looks really good. Excellent paint scheme. I also enjoyed the commentary on spotting enemy Cessnas. It really is hard to spot aircraft in real life.

      Yeah. From a distance of 5 meters or more the paint looks fine. It's when you get close that you can start to see the problems, and it just irks me to no end. I hope I can find someone with the expertise to correct the issues. Thanks Greg.

      Thanks man. Even if I can just get to 90-95% of my original expectations; I'd be happy.

    Unfortunately the main reason for Remote ID is probably to manage traffic in uncontrolled airspace due to future corporate UAS operations who have the ears and the pockets of our politicians. I believe the real reason for this Remote module ID is for future traffic management for Commercial UAS deliveries and other services.

    You’ll get endurance regardless of the GPS as all the 275 needs is fuel flow and fuel quantity. Looks as if you’ve decided not to display EGT/CHT graphically on the main page…I think there was a software update for that.

    A German with this sophisticated level of English is rare ... and he even plays the piano!

      Ich bin Amerikaner. Thus my sophisticated level of English. :P Also; I don't play piano. I would like to, but this was me just doing my best to try to play the melody by ear.

    Hello, I just discovered that you have eliminated your previous videos with Il-2 and DCS content; this is a real loss for me, especially your Fw 190A content. I was hoping to review some of your videos, and no more! What was the reason for the complete eradication of years of content here on your channel? Is the content available on some other forum, or gone forever? Very curious as to your reason for such a draconian decision. In either case, best regards to you, of course you have every right to do as you wish, just sorry to see the content no longer available. Horrido, good flying.

      Most recent 200 or so videos are still available on my Utreon/Playeur acount for the time being. Link is in the video description of most of my videos. I went over the reasons in my video about the deletions, and gave more details in responses to comments there. If you are really curious as to the reasons; l'd recommend reading the comments on that video. I don't want to type all that out again. Thanks for your understanding.
