He also starred in the Sci Fi tv show in the original series of the Outer Limits in 1963 in the episode called "It crawled out of the woodwork" Such a great actor!!!!! 👍

Great video and great breakdown. You nailed it...BUT...I sure wish you'd included Beware, My Lovely in at least the Honorable Mention category. I think that is a very underrated movie. Ida stepped in to pinch-hit direct when director Harry Horner was absent (due to family tragedy). She had a LOT of heavy lifting to do to carry this film, as she and Robert Ryan (in one of his best performances) are in virtually every scene, in one location. It's a stellar piece of acting by Lupino, who really captures the fear of the character. Regardless, thanks for sharing this video, and I hope it introduces more people to arguably the most accomplished woman in 20th century filmmaking...or should I say Filmaking?

So I'm a huge Lucille Ball fan, one of the few celebrities I cried for when she passed. So I'm going to say I was 16 in 1974 and loved Lucille Ball in Mame, I vividly remember seeing it at the Americana Theater on Greenfield Rd in Southfield Michigan. Stephen Sondheim was reported to have said he preferred actors who sang rather than singers who acted. That last scene in Stella Dallas is one of the greatest things ever committed to celluloid. Missy gives a master class that every aspiring actor should watch and learn from. There is nothing more beautiful than a mother’s unconditional love for her child, and Barbara reaches deep down to the depths of her soul, and all the feelings washing over Stella beautifully come to the surface in her performance. It is poignant, and completely authentic. She gets me every single time.

A list for Ginger Rogers please. The Major And The Minor is my favorite.

I really want Sofia to make a film about Diana Spencer at some point. It may seem like a retread of Priscilla and we’ve already had the Crown but I find it right up her alley.

Trouble With Angels is my favorite. Very funny but an interesting, touching story too. Her performance in Picnic is outstanding. She was so great she couldn't help but almost steal the show.

Please Don't Eat The Daisies is my favorite. Great performances and great lines that make me smile decades later. Janis Page was wonderful. That Touch Of Mink is a close 2nd favorite. Her scenes with John Astin and Gig Young in the automat are hilarious. She turned the expression of exasperation into a comedy gold.

I still know all the words to all the songs from My Sister Eileen er Wonderful Town!!

FYI: There’s a great biography that came in 2021 that includes details from the 2018 doc. “Elizabeth and Monty” by Charles Castillo. It’s an easy read. Castillo *seems* to less biased than most nonfiction authors.

I simply cannot believe that Loretta Young won for “The Farmer’s Daughter”, still. Rosalind Russell was insanely brilliant as ‘Vinnie’! ❤ me some “Mourning Becomes Electra!

Bette Davis did NOT do her own make up as Queen Elizabeth I, Perc Westmore was responsible for her look. She advised him on her ideas, but they collaborated as did Orry-Kelly on the costumes. THE OLD MAID is so beautifully paced and so delicately performed, everyone excellent. Also, ALL THIS AND HEAVEN TOO.

I think you really nailed it with the term "generous." No doubt underappreciated, Roz was a natural talent from the beginning - a talent that imporved through her c onscious hard work and tenacious commmitment to craftsmanship. Roz was a uniquely *generous* actor, to your point, and thst's easy to miss because she was *so damn good at it* Perhaps she remains under-appreciated because of that very generosity. Roz always looked great and excelled in any scene, but she made sure everyone else in the scene looked good, TOO. She nevah hammed or tried to "steal" a scene, despite being a undeniably Master Class level actor. Thank you for helping to keep Rosalind Russell's work and spitit alive. Hopefully some viewers who may not know her very well will be inspired to watch these 10 films.

Life is a Banquet is kept in the collection of books on my bed stand. The story of the Duchess alone would put it there - but it’s her story and that has earned the spot in truth. This was a lovely retrospective. Thank you for sharing it.

Thank you for your service. When I was a kid they’d show old movies, some good, some terrible on a local channel every Sunday. They showed Elvis movies, only one was on your list, didn’t care for it. The Elvis movies shown were usually bery bad. However, on your recommendations, I’ll give him another go.

I so love your commentaries as your enthusiasm and opinions are really smart. But mispronouncing famous artists names is so jarring. Irene Dunne, Anna Magnani, Peter Lorre, and Somerset Maugham. These gaffe make you sound less literate and you sometimes massacre grammar and even make up words. If you ever need an editor/proofreader/production assistant, contact me. I wish you could go back and clean these up in your existing posts. They are so good. We could do this over the phone!

Can't tell you how much I enjoyed your video it was delivered with such love and admiration for this wonderful and under appreciated actress. For Roz and Barbara Stanwyck oh and Thelma Ritter to never win the Oscar keeps me awake at night. Thanks again for this tribute to Roz I love Gypsy and Sister Kenny especially but all your choices are spot on.
