How to get a good first layer
In this video I go over my process for getting a good first layer. I see lots of reddit posts regarding first layer issues and they are mostly all the same. What you do on the first layer can affect the upper layers. Hopefully someone will find this video helpful.
In this video I'm using a model from printables designed by yahbluez at www.printables.com/model/251587-stress-free-first-layer-calibration-in-less-than-5

hi i was wondering if you could answer a question for me. someone recently gave me an voxlab aquila c2 but it had no lead screw. i ordered one 365mm T8 Tr8x2 Z Axis Lead Screw but my prints come up compressed. did i get the right size. is it possible i need an 8mm pitch? this is driving me crazy. any help you could give would be appreciated. thanks
That lead screw should work. According to amazon it's for an ender printer so should work. You may need to adjust the esteps in the printer settings. Also check that you have the lead screw secured to the motor
Would you know how to pause at a specific layer for a color change?
Sorry I didn't see your comment. As far as i'm aware you can't do that with this slicer. I would recommend Orca Slicer to do something like that.
THANK YOU
I have watched all your videos on the Pro and they were a great help in the setting up. For some reason I got a spare display ribbon cable, maybe some people are damaging the one supplied because you have to twist it over to fit the correct way up on the display. As you say there are fores & against, as there are with most things. Dave
Hi I've just bought the Aquila Pro having had thermister issues with my X2. I now have it all set up but I'm having problems with the Hot End Temp. all the setting are set at 210 & 60 degrees. but the printer starts to print at 150 deg. It does carry on up to 210 when reaching 150 which the X2 does every time. Did you come across this problem? and have you any ideas on how to fix it. I've contacted Voxelab but am waiting for a reply. I'm in the UK by the way Dave
Sorry I haven't responded to your post. I hadn't come across that issue, hopefully you have found resolution on that. If not I would down load the firmware off their website and reinstall it.
Just came across your video and really glad that I did. Have had all the same issues at some point with my Pro machine. Also have the print stop mid-print with an "out of filament" message, even though it's a full reel (turned off the filament detection). Very frustrating but still a decent product for the money. Thanks for helping resolve a couple of what I previously assumed were self-inflicted screw ups.
Hi, thanks for the video. So to colour change would i use variable layers and change there? also is there any other slicers compatible with aquila pro? Thanks
You can't do a color change with voxelmaker unfortunately. I would recommend Orcaslicer, create a printer with the built in Aquila x2 profile, then change the bed size and follow this video to finish the setup ruclips.net/video/pJBOIX33jlo/видео.htmlsi=EFrifbw8rvqaT-ZT guy is using Cura in the video but he is just showing printer settings, I find Prusaslicer and orca slicer easier to use and just better overall.
@@3dprintablesllc271 Spent hours looking yesterday but couldn’t find anything. Thank you I will give this a try 🙏🏻 🙏🏻
@@BadBoyTurnz lots more videos on those slicers than Voxelmaker, good luck
Do you have any idea how I could calibrate e steps ? Screens with buttons you can extrude filament under "move" section but not with PRO
You can't change anything with the Pro. You can't even do a PID tune. Actually You may be able to it by writing the gcode commands in a text file, then change the extension from .txt to a .gcode and select print on your printer. I've never done it before and don't know if it will work with the Pro.
Hello! I have an Aquilla X2 that I recently got as a gift. I'm NEW to 3D printing. So this tutorial was REALLY helpful in learning like the stuff on the left sidebar there. The continuation of this video KIND of helps me with all the print options but I really need more help and can't find help ANYWHERE from this program. Some prints come out smooth as all hell, others rough and crappy without settings changing or just changing the internal/external composition (Which I don't even know what that is honestly!) Any help would be appreciated! D:
Hey, I'm so sorry I didn't see this sooner. Have you found the help you needed? EDIT: Just realized I responded to this logged into the wrong youtube account.
Now I'm logged in to the correct account. Let me know if I can help you with something but it's better to reply to the edwardMcrichy post, I don't monitor this channel as much as I should.
Where do you put the filament
Sorry I don't understand your question. Are you asking how to add more filament profiles? Select custom profile to begin see 50 seconds into the video
Do you need to pay every time you want to print something?
No.
How would you print at 0.16 and 0.12,do u just change layer height only?
Yes just change the layer height, you may also need to change the first layer height as well though you could just stick with the default
Thank you for this information! I couldn’t find it anywhere, and after watching your review before buying the printer I knew what I was doing wrong when setting up! Thank you for this again
What the hell am I blind I came here to find where the slice button is I can’t see it
Sorry I don't monitor this channel as much as I should, hopefully you figured it out, basically you don't slice you choose your print settings and then save the file and then it automatically slices once you've done that
I was wondering if you can do a video on PETG settings I have a Voxelab Aquila x3 Thanks.
ta dando muito erro
I've only just bought one of these 4 days back, after owning an Aquila C2 and buying that 3-4 weeks ago. The C2 was so much better in a lot of ways. That hanging issue you have with the screen, I've encountered that a good few times now and it's right dissapointing :( I've also found no matter what I do with my settings, the print quality has been nowhere as good as what I am getting with the C2. I thought the auto bed levelling and dual z-axis would make my prints even better, but I'm not seeing improvements in anything really. Also, No matter how I look into it, I cannot get cura stl's to print properly, but they'll print ok in voxelab maker. Overall, a disapointment compared to the C2, so wouldn't recommend one. Just my opinion though.
Oh! I forgot to ad, that I have those wifi connection issues too. My router is around 4m away from the pinter and about 50cm from my laptop. I don't bother with it anymore, and just stick the USB in and run the print file off that :/
@@reapermansoldholdensixmech8675 I replaced my board and put in a different one and installed klipper, a better printer that way.
any chance of a tutorial on this? I'd like to change my mainboard and firmware as im struggling with voxelabs. Also do you think I could put a direct drive on this thing?
I'll try to make time for a tutorial some day, good idea.
@@3dprintablesllc271Waiting for your tutorial too :) I want a stable connection via WiFi and full control ...
I sell 3d Printers for a living and I will NOT be stocking these anymore. The one I sold failed after a few prints and likely due to the flat ribbon cables (casual users should not be expected to handle that type of cable). The real deal breaker is the new mother boards cost more than 3 times the standard boards ($105 compared to $30). That is outrageous enough that I will probably stop dealing with Voxelab altogether. Who puts a $105 mainboard (plus postage as it is not stocked locally) in a $200 printer ?
I am sad to say I have never even tried to print one of these... After several years. Now I have no excuse since you're another Voxelab user (my favorite, tbh). Thanks!
Happy to have found your channel! I really like the Voxelab printers. I have three of them now (Aquila, Aquila x2, Aquila x3). I have other brand printers and some custom ones, but my day to day use printers are my Voxelabs. I am very much looking forward to your video on sequential printing. I have never tried it, but would like to for a specific project I am working on. I am going to try a few things tonight just for fun. Anyway, nice seeing other Voxelabs out there. Have a good one!
thanks for the comment. I also found the X2 to be very good for the low cost.
So... lets overlay with music on poor low volume audio... BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The WiFi issues could be any number of things not associated with the printer, how far is your printer from your network router? Do you have solid walls between the printer and the router? My printer is some distance from my router I got range extenders now everything is a lot better.
I have my printer in the garage, no other device I have has issues connecting to Wi-Fi, maybe the WiFi chip they use just sucks and is not powerful enough.
When you are levelling, the nozzle isn't visible because its hidden behind the bed fastening clips. Since I upgraded the firmware on my printer(s) 2 x Aquila Pro I haven't been able to print there are additional steps that I just don't know what to do...The supplied information isn't very good. I'm happy with the levelling and calibration, however now after printing the raft which is always perfect, the model itself completely messes up and the extruded lifts up and lowers a number of times when printing the model.
The lifting and lowering during the print sounds like z hop is on in the slicer. What slicer are you using?
@@3dprintablesllc271 , I’ve switch to using the Voxelab. Slicer and that has no issues
@@SimonPlatten I find that whenever I have issues with a slicer I just go back to the voxel maker slicer and the issues typically go away
Wow I had the same problem with my z-calibration and could not find a solution anywhere. Thanks so much for making this video!!!
hey so uh? how do i slice it?
that's in the next video ruclips.net/video/vcNnFY-9a8k/видео.html
Just found your videos. I just picked up the pro second hand from voxelab directly and i like it! but, Why didn't they just base it off the x2 i haven't a damn clue. That probe is a huge pain!! I'm like you i seen that prompt to calibrate after the update and just clicked away from it and then it about snapped it off on the bed clips while doing a z-offset. They mention no where about going into the level feature and tapping 5 times next to the back portion of the screen to go back into the calibration feature.. I have only had it for a few days and haven't printed anything but a calibration cube. but, It does seem to print pretty well. Mine to may become a franken printer if it acts up.
Yeah, I was disappointed in the information they provided, or should I say lack of information.
how do you get to voxelmaker? like how do you download it to pc?

@@3dprintablesllc271 your fine. Thanks!
Awesome thank you
Again, brill. Thanks 👍

Brill. Thanks 👍
Awesome Tutorial!!! How can I change colors mid print? Is it possible at all?
I haven't seen a way to do that. In this case you probably need to use one of the other slicers like prusa slicer in order to do something like that. Check the printer menu you may be able to do it through the printer and not through the slicer
What you do is when it is at the spot you want it to change colors click pause, and then you can leave the print click auto unload then insert the filament then auto load. Then you can go back to the print section and click on the print you were just doing. Tell me if it works
hey how do you get the aries on the machine list? all i see is the proxima
nvm i was on voxelprint
thank you
Hi is there a mac download for this?
Update there is
Can you resliced a file that has been sliced and if yes how? /
Not sure I totally understand your question, if you bring the sliced file into the slicer, as far as I know it only shows the sliced file and gives you no options to reslice. I think you would have to have the original file.
I’m just getting started … do you have a video on design…. Making your own …. Parts in my case for a model idea …
I do not. But I would recommend the channel Product Design Online if it's fusion360.
Hey bud, I need some help. My prints on my Aquila Pro have been printing weird. At a certain point the printer stops extruding but it continues moving like it’s print. Also, any profile tips for voxelmaker?
Hey man sorry I didn't reply sooner. I don't monitor this channel as much as I should. Sounds like you are experiencing heat creep which is causing jams. One thing you can try is to do the mod from this video ruclips.net/video/B2KEzF1ZzTU/видео.html you would need some ABS or PETG, this has helped me a little bit but adding a more powerful hot end fan has also helped. You could also give this a try, haven't tried it but looks like it could help www.amazon.com/dp/B09JVQPDFM/?coliid=I3S9WGJLXV5FB&colid=2Z02LJ75C3KQD&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it . In the meantime, if you remove the stock PTFE tube from the hot end, check to make sure the end of the tube has been cut straight, then reinsert it and push down all the way to make sure it hits the nozzle. For Voxel Maker I would start with the default PLA profile, then choose to "customize" at the bottom of the dropdown of the profile menu, it should keep the stock settings then you just make changes from there. I would avoid changing any of the settings in the stock profile, that way you have the stock profile unchanged. Whenever you have a new material, and you want to create a new profile always start with the stock profile then choose to customize, then make your changes. Let me know how it goes. I will try to monitor this channel more often.
I recently purchased a Volxelab Aries as my first printer and these Voxelmaker tutorials have been very helpful! Thank you!
how can we add gcode to voxelmaker?
As far as I know you can't add G-Code using voxelmaker. It's a very limited program. What are you trying to do?
drag the Gcode file from the folder into VoxelMaker, and you can send to the printer
How do you connect to voxelmaker via wired connection? Also what firmware do you have on your printer?
Hey sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I don't believe there is a way to connect direct to VoxelMaker, I don't see an option to connect through USB cable. You could try using pronterface to load the file to the printer and print.
Replying to this very late, but hopefully it will help someone in the future. This information is incomplete, but it will get you printing by USB in Cura, and I'm still trying to get it fully functional in VoxelMaker. It seems that to print directly from USB on older Voxelab models, such as my Aquila X2, you need the CH340 driver, which enables serial communication through USB, same as an Arduino board. RUclips won't let me post a direct link, but SparkFun (who sells Arduinos) has a good article on it. Google "How to Install CH340 Drivers," and click on their article with that title. After installing, you'll see the serial communication ports in Device Manager, assuming you're on Windows. To get my computer to detect the printer, I had to flip the power switch first, and wait for it to boot *before* connecting the the USB. Now in VoxelMaker, go to Tools -> Serial Control. In the Serial Control window, there is a Serial Ports dropdown list at the top right. In my case, my printer was connected to serial port COM4. There are many ports it could be, and for whatever reason, the Search Ports button didn't seem to work for me. Fortunately, Cura now detected my printer, automatically connected to it, and identified which port it was connected by, which saved the trial and error finding the right port. *However, if Cura is still open when you try to connect VoxelMaker to the printer, the connection will fail with no clear reason given, because Cura is still hogging it.* When you click the Connect button at the bottom of VoxelMaker's Serial Control window, if the connection is successful, it will say so in the box to the left. You can now paste gcode (as text) into the Send window, send it to the printer to operate it. However, I was unable to _finish_ any print like this. After a short while, it would warn me that it was too busy processing my other commands, and fail. I assume this could easily be overcome by limiting the send speed, but I'm not sure of the correct way to do that yet. From what I could find, I believe the defaults for the other Serial Control settings are correct for my printer, but tweaking those may be the answer. In any case, I did not run into this issue in Cura. I only needed to connect the printer, and open Cura. After slicing, the normal Save To Disk button will have an arrow to the right which you can click to set to "Print From USB". On the Monitor tab, there are buttons to move the extruder, and to preheat the nozzle and plate, which VoxelMaker does not have. Oddly, while printing this way, the printer LCD and menu act as though it's idle, not printing anything. The Print Time/Time Remaining counters have to be viewed in Cura. I've not yet tested whether it's possible to change settings like temperature and print speed from the printer menu mid-print. Hopefully someone can figure out how to get VoxelMaker fully functioning with this, because it was able to detect my printer's settings and immediately get to work, instead of having to add the printer manually, which is something Cura can't (and probably won't) do.
