VG Preserve

Добавлен 3 апр 2024
With my educational and professional background in Historic Preservation, I am seeking to shine light on the preservation of video games! I have been an avid gamer since a very young age, and I have many stories to tell on my channel. My videos focus on telling my childhood stories while also discussing efforts made to preserve the past and remember so many great games. I will also be exploring games that are new to me, and posting additional videos about the art of collecting and the importance of physical media. (Formerly VG Reader)
Mega Man 7 Could Have Been the Best One!
Mega Man 7 stands out as one of the most pleasant games in the series in terms of audio and visuals. There are some quirks with the game that could have possibly been ironed out if the development team had a little more time. Mega Man 7 was made in just three months! It's one of the lesser discussed titles in the Mega Man series since it was cast in the shadow of the ultra popular Mega Man X games on SNES. However, I think it truly has potential to be called the best of the Classic Mega Man games!

Today we are discussing emulators and their effect on the world of game preservation. I wanted to clarify that I'm not strictly against using them, but I don't do it myself. The Internet Told Me Mega Man 5 Was Bad...They Were Wrong!
Megaman 9 is my favorite, Megaman 4 at a close second, that hasn’t really changed over the years. but Megaman 7 has slowly become one of my favorites over the years I’d say it’s top 3 being 3rd. There’s alot to love about it. Soundtrack wise I’d say Megaman 9 has better compositions, but Megaman 7 has a much better sound and has more variety. One of the best soundtracks on the SNES for sure.
It's one that I wish I had played more in my younger days for sure. I spent so much time with 2, 3, X, and X2. I've only beaten 7 one other time than when I did for this video. It's really great!
I like 7 but I hate how heavy every jump feels. Not my favorite MegaMan game but it's good
I definitely understand that. There's some jumps that are mini heart attacks in the game for sure because of how weighty it is.
Mega Man 7 IS the best one
If it isn't my favorite it is very close, don't worry, I still love it!
Mega Man 7 is arguably the best of the classic Mega Man and the music is solid, I had a blast making the Freeze Man cover. You bring up some good points, though it's probably still my favorite classic Mega Man. Great video man!
It's probably still my favorite too haha, despite my criticisms. I loved the Freeze Man cover that you did!
You should do a video on your perfect Mega Man game. If you don't I will be like shadow man. I will dislike all your videos.
Once I finally get to a Mega Man 6 review then I would love to do some kind of follow-up video like this. Great idea!
Megaman 7 IS the best one, hands down It doesn't need improvement, it's good all on it's own
Don't worry, I still love the game. The few changes I'd want to see were pretty minor, and hope I didn't offend with my takes haha. Thanks for watching!
You can skip the intro by a password that unlocks all eight of the robot masters. I've always used turbo fire on the Mega Man games that, thankfully, the collection has. On real hardware I had to use a Maflash MF 105 plugged intro a SNES Wingman converter. However the MF 105 didn't work until I plugged it into a Wingman XE and then plugged both into Snes Wingman converter that everything worked. But now all my SNES controllers have turbo now, so it was worth the hassle.
Yeah I mean ultimately the skip for the intro is the password, but still, I'd like to skip the talking and just get right to the action haha! Thanks for watching as always!
@VGPreserve You're welcome. Nice thing about the Switch SNES controller is it's Bluetooth so it works with the 8bitdo Retro Receivers. I play a few PS1 games with it.
A friend of mine had the broadband and we’d take two GameCubes and play 8 person (if I remember correctly) but that’s out of the memory archives. Not for sure… Love the vid, great takes (except for not covering balloon pop in battle mode, that mode was lit)
<3
Battle mode with the balloon pop was a battle grounds!!! Cover it as a follow up video please :) Great takes here brick
Thanks king! I need to do follow ups for this and 64 and actually talk about Battle Mode some day lol.
Maybe it's because I started with Megaman 4, but i never found anything annoying about 3's pacing. 2 was the weird one to me because it was so short.
My favorite of the main games. I fully agree. Though, I think I may be the only one to start on Skull Man simply because the shield allows for better platforming in some stages, such as the early pits in Dust Man's stage.
That's cool! Whenever I play it again I just might have to start with him instead.
Buy a Kaico Wii to HDMI cable it's $18. Since I know you're doing a video on Mario Kart Wii. I have one, and unlike the other ones it's not garbage. Kaico makes good stuff and I use their stuff on my retro consoles.
Thank you!
You're welcome.
It is an interesting tune. I can’t even determine what time signature it’s in because it’s so irregular, and the piano sounds oddly crisp. I also like the losing theme (when you finish lower than 4th), which also has piano (along with walls of midi strings)
I feel like a lot of N64 music has that crispness, which surprises me given that it's a cartridge based system.
Someone did create a Double Dash online mod similar to Wii's wiimifi I think it's called? Pretty dead as it's pretty complicated to setup and there isn't a real reason to play it over Netplay or even Parsec. I've a lot of memories with this game, both old and even new as I still do play the game. Custom tracks have been created and I don't mean to advertise my own channel here but I've a lot of footage of custom tracks made by the community. It's still very much alive with mods & such. Also love whoever was the second player at the end of the video being both Princesses! 💖💖
That was my girlfriend playing as Peach and Daisy! It was her first time playing the game and she did really well! Thanks for the info on the multiplayer stuff that's really cool!
@ oooh, hope you two had fun with that! 💖💖
Double Dash is my second favorite game of all time after Resident evil 4. I'm glad I've gotten my friends to play it with me at Hangouts. Because it's so fun to play.
It's super fun multiplayer for sure!
Hoo Boy. That's some blurry footage. Might I suggest a Retro Bit Prism HDMI adapter for your GameCube. At $70 it the cheapest of the HDMI solutions out there.
Yeah I'm just using a cheapo up-scaler at the moment. In time I'll upgrade it, thanks for the suggestion.
No problem. I got mine on Amazon. While you're there, pick up a Retro Bit LegacyGC controller if you got a Gameboy player and/or an 8bitdo Retro Receiver for GC. I've been playing GC games like Double Dash with my CRKD Neo S controller using the Retro Receiver.
I totally understand your take on the Doc Robot stages, but I don’t necessarily agree. Playing this game when it came out and seeing the borders of those four stages change on the stage select screen and the weird new icons was exciting, and then going through the stages wondering what was going to happen with no expectations and coming upon the already iconic robot masters from II was a pretty great moment. I remember thinking “Wow they are back!” As silly as it sounds, the design of the Doc Robots is what sullies those levels for me because they are so weird and non descript. Honestly I prefer the Doc Robot levels as a way of extending the game compared to the misdirection and 2 castles the next 3 games in the series. Also, never feel self conscious for coming to these games when you did. Sure you don’t know what it was like to play these games in real time as they came out and are approaching them from a different perspective, but your opinion is equally valid. Keep up the great content. -Cast
Thank you very much! I definitely see your perspective on it too!
UCBVG is awesome
Totally! Great channel.
Double dash was great!!
Ayyy sis! It sure was!
It's always the N64 😂
Mk9 better bring this back
Even if it's some kind of side mode, having two racers again would be so awesome!
It would
I don't like the new mk9, this will be great!
You mean the thing they showed on the Switch reveal trailer? Or are there more details?
@VGPreserve yes Mario kart for sw2 i wish it was a sequel to mkdd. I subscribe to your channel! Mario kart tour featured new players new items for new characters they could work for the new Mario kart dd
Thanks for the sub! I would love a true sequel to MKDD, I'd probably take a week off of work to play it non-stop, haha!
I don't remember a time without MKDD, its probably my first ever videogame. It came out a few months after I was born, and my grandpa had a GameCube for my aunts who were kids back then. And by the time I was in school, he said that I could have it. So before and after it was mine, I've always been playing Double Dash! Still have it, and it still works! I play it more than 8, honestly. I had wii, ds, and 7 too, but I can't control 8 anywhere as well.
Great story! I hardly remember life without Double Dash. I got it for Christmas shortly after I turned 6.
Awe yes the mario kart with skill not just inputing a item at a certain frame
Honestly, the co-op mode in Double Dash is *incredibly* underrated. It's perfect for when you want to play with someone who isn't any good at Mario Kart, so they otherwise wouldn't find losing over and over any fun - they can still play, and focus on the items (and slide attacking). It's also incredibly fun when you and an equally skilled friend want to take on the all cup tour together, and being able to swap who is driving on the fly when one person might be better at certain courses than the other one.
The few times I remember playing that mode with my sister were pretty dang fun! She would just let me drive while she focused on beating the crap out of people as Bowser Jr. Fun times for sure!
@@VGPreserveit was pretty dang fun! That and 2 v 2 mode on Mario party 5!
This game is why I hated it when the Wii U came out, and I became a retro gamer.
The Wii U era was the perfect time to go back to older generations, haha!
It didn't dare to be different, it was the first of it's kind, SNES/GBA are obvious techinical limitations and n64 is limited enough they don't know what they want gamecube to be, they found a way for it to work best on the old technology of the gamecube, they did innovate and mess around in future series, the only game you can say stopped is 8 as it is quite similar to 3ds, but the main problem is they did not release another in series
Decent points for sure! I think the title more comes from the idea of looking back at just *how* different double dash is from the rest of the series. For me at least.
my first video game ever
And a great one to have as that!
I like Mega Man 4, but for me it's a toss up between OG Mega Man and MM4 for my least favorite on the NES... I tend to err on the side of MM4 being bottom of the pile. It's not that it's a bad game at all; far from it, actually. I just find that it has more things that I dislike about it overall than the rest of the games. - Boss health loading takes excessively long. - I think the robot masters overall are fairly forgettable compared to the rest of the NES ensemble. - Most of the music is not as good as pretty much any of the other games'. Exceptions for Pharaoh Man, Skull Man, Cossack 1 and 2, and the final Wily fight. - The charge sound effect cutting out one of the square tracks from the music (even if it's not my overall favorite OST in NES Mega Man) is pretty unpleasant. MM5 and MM6 handled this better. - Wire is basically useless; I can think of perhaps two spots where it's actually useful and even then, you can skip the items you get and be just fine. - Cossack fight is a complete joke and Kalinka battles Roll to determine who the most meaningless character in NES Mega Man is, lol. I think you get the idea. Having said all of that, being the worst game as a part of one of the best franchises on the console (and in video games as a whole, honestly) still makes it better than 90%+ of other NES games out there. I do still play it from time to time, however I more often feel inclined to play virtually any other of the NES offerings. Mega Man 6 is easily my top NES entry. I probably spent more money renting it from Albertson's back in the day (because that was a thing up through the early 90s) than it would've cost to buy the damn cart, lol. Pretty much everything I listed above is addressed in MM6, even if the Mr. X reveal was totally unsurprising and everyone saw it coming from a mile away. Aside from that, I really don't have anything negative to say about it. I still think it has the best music of all the entire classic Mega Man games.
I cannot wait to delve back into Mega Man 6! It has been far too long, but I'm holding out for a bit before making the video. It's the last one on the NES I have not covered on this channel.
I remember being 11 or 12 and grinding the all cup tour with my little brother. We barely miss winning it all over and over again. We finally had an amazing run where we had started the last race with enough points to get last place and we would still win it all. It was the best feeling at the time. However on the flip side I became so good at the game that none of my friends wanted to play it with me unfortunately.
The All Cup Tour grind is brutal!
I actually beat this game myself.
I haven't in a long time! All Cup Tour on Mirror and 150cc is no joke.
@VGPreserve I couldn't beat the game alone, though. I had help from my siblings on some tricky parts of the game. But, other than that, I managed to beat much of the game alone. It took me and my siblings a few years before I beat the game. I managed to beat mirror mode myself. It was super difficult, but I managed to be Michael McDowell and completely overcome the odds.
I didn't have this game growing up but I grew up with the Wii so was able to use that to play double dash on bc of backwards compatibility and love it
It's a great one! And the Wii is clutch like that, haha.
as much as I love mario kart wii, and mario kart 8. but double dash was and will always be my favorite.
I totally feel this! Mario Kart is always such a big release for each console, but I'll always go back to this one.
@@VGPreserve i wish i still had it, i used to have a backwards wii console and had to pay extra for double dash. i'm surprised that nintendo hasn't come out with one for the switch! they ported 8 to the switch, and while they added new content, i'm still surprised they haven't come out with a whole new game for the switch.
Double Dash dared to suck and it did
no.
Bros just mad i keep dodging his red shells
@@greatwhite3512he couldn't beat the All Cup Tour 😅
Mega Man 5 is a great game and I love it, it’s just the least good of the original 6. Gravity Man’s stage was groundbreaking and cool. The only thing I hate about this game is the Rush Coil change. -Cast
WHO THE F**K DOESN'T LIKE THE MEGA BUSTER???
It could be nostalgia, but Double Dash is my favorite Mario Kart game of all time. I would play it so much with my brothers and we never got bored of it. I wish they would add a "Double Dash" game mode to current MK games
That would be awesome! It's without a doubt my favorite as well!
My favorite as well!
Hi everyone! Can't get enough Mario Kart? I have a review of Mario Kart Double Dash on this channel as well!! ruclips.net/video/JiPGu-4kOvQ/видео.html
I'd agree saying MM4 is the beginning of the decline, but... like, that means the BEGINNiNG< IE: It's at the peak. It's among my favourites

"decline"? All 11 games are great wtf. Only way it's a decline is if 2 is a 10 and the rest are 9s
Im sorry, but Megaman 2 and 3 have the best music.
MM4 was my first game ever bought, it was now 30 years ago. Time flies hehe. Still and forever my favorite. The beauty with this game is the fact, you don't really have to go Toad Bright etc. That is also a "bad" thing, because Dive, Skull, Toad, even Ring and Dust are pretty easy for robot masters. But that gets compensated by Bright Man and Drill Man. Pharaoh is so-so. The Music is great, My personal favorite is Skull for Robot Masters, and Cossack 2 for Stage. But the 11 second loop for the final fight takes the cake big time. Imo the best final boss music even tho it is a short af loop. The game is fair and not really hard (compared to e.g. MM 10), but not as easy as MM2. it is pretty much well balanced. What I don't agree with you is your hate for the obstacles (rain, snow...). it is a thing that makes the game more fun, if you have something to alter your movement speed but it still makes the game fair. Yes, there is a difficult jump in Toad Man's stage but that's it. And the best Mega Man Stage music ever imo is Wily1 from Mega Man1. Feel free to ckeck on it. And the best overall Mega Man music (entire game) is for sure MM9
I loved 4 when it came out. I found 5 and 6 where subpar.
I use an Old Skool NES to NES Classic adapter connected to an 8bitdo Gbros to use a real NES controller on the Switch. This setup works on others consoles and PC with the Gbros being connected through the Brook Wingman adapters, so every console and PC version of the Legacy Collection can be played with my NES controller.
Very helpful info!
Thanks
Why does the collection even need to be on two discs?!
MEGA MAN 4 WAS ALWAYS THE BEST👌👍 OF THE 6 CLASSIC VIDEO GAMES 🎮 🕹 ON THE NES.
