1972 Fender Champ Demo
Fender 1972 Champ demo. This amp has sat un-played in a loft at a windshield repair shop for almost 20 years until I discovered it while getting my car fixed next door to a Junk Yard near Indio CA. So, the amp is a stock 1972 Silverface Fender Champ except for the speaker which is a 1975 proper Fender approved replacement speaker. (8 inch)
I had a tech go through the amp he put in new tubes, replace two new capacitors in the bass EQ.
Includes brand new Tung Sol Gold Pin 12AX7 and EH 6V6GT.
Imagine what this would sound like through a 12" speaker?

Budda 1997 Stringmaster

Run through of different tones on the Rare 1997 Budda Stringmaster. This is the most touch sensitive amp I have ever played. It's only 30 Watts, it does not have a master volume so when you play harder it distorts more. It sounds like a Vox mixed with a Plexi Marshall. Pre Peavey, handwired, 4 EL 84's 3 12AX7's. Budda only made about 100 of these amplifiers. Signed by Jeff Bober, Budda founder.

    I now use a Matchless Excalibur. A discontinued one channel high gain Matchless. Better than the Independence. It also has a Midrange control, something Matchless doesn't usually include on their amps. Bypass-able Master volume and it uses EL34 power tubes. There aren't any demos online except one from the NAMM show, so I guess I'll make one soon.

    • @drwhiteguru
      @drwhiteguru 3 года назад

      Yes absolutely! However I think if the capacitors were replaced it may be quite a bit louder. My vox ac30 is at least twice the volume all the way up. When the power tubes add their distortion it sounds different than preamp gain, warmer fuzzier and way more compressed in the feel. It's nice not having a master volume the amp is much more dynamic and touch sensitive the way it should be.

    Hi There. Hope all is well. I'm looking for a "Marshally" amp to replace my recent 1959HW I bought new. It was returned as it exhibited some issues that I didn't want headaches about...especially on a new amp. Currently have a Matchless HC30 and a Two Rock CRS to cover the vox and fender/dumble sounds. What's your take on the Top Hat Emplexador....does it nail the Plexi tone? Also can the amp sound close to a JTM45. I had shortlisted the Top Hat, Suhr SL68 and Matchless Independence. Was gonna go for the Independance but it seemed it just touched Plexi territory...lots more gain than I'd need. Hope to hear from you.

    • @drwhiteguru
      @drwhiteguru 3 года назад

    Not so sure it was Claptons, I would want to see the strats too. The output with the transformer would be the pro guitar tech way to do that on the fly when out on the road during the 70's....... But it is indeed a hack none the less. Regardless it is a very clean Tweed. Did you re-cap it. Too bad you didnt have more gut shots of the board. Two Questions I must ask..... Did you trade the Marshall or not? What did you get it for and how much did ya sell it for? Pioneer Town is Great!

    • @drwhiteguru
      @drwhiteguru 4 года назад

      Cool story! Yeah we have a lot of similarities I think we’re around the same age and I went to high school in California Southern California. I played bass for about 20 years but I took guitar lessons on the side and practiced guitar. In the early 90s I got mesa boogie studio preamp and a bunch of Rack gear and that was fun. I also learned how to become a studio engineer so I could use that rack equipment not only with my guitar but in the studio. About five years ago I got bit by the boutique bug and went on a long journey of trying all the classic amplifiers. The Marshall hand wired clones, Vintage Fender Blackface and silverface, I like the clean sounds but the distorted tones I thought sounded really horrible. The bass got loose and flubby just didn’t like it. I would read about certain amps buy them used play them record them then sell or trade for something else just as a way to educate and train my ear and it was a lot of fun. Some of my favorites were: Matchless independence, Vox AC30, TopHat Emplexador, Budda Stringmaster Hiwatt, BRay modified Marshall. I always wanted to try a tweed bassman and I’ve never played through one yet so I envy you there. I’m also really getting into analog synthesizers which is something I always wanted to be into as a kid but couldn’t afford it. Now they are having a retro resurgence similar to the tube boutique guitar world. I think my favorite was the VOX AC 30. It got really distorted but you had to turn it all the way up no master volume, the cleans were great but the edge of break up and touch sensitivity was out of this world. Cool story about your Bassman! Got any clips? Stay in touch!

    • @drwhiteguru
      @drwhiteguru 4 года назад

      Thanks it's clean at low volumes. Plenty of great tone but to get the dirt you need to crank it and get those power tubes cookin'. It's basically a Tweed Deluxe with a bit of old school Marshall Bluesbreaker mixed in, more midrange. But the dirt is that saturated tweed breakup, more like Neil Young. Like a fuzz pedal. So I had a Dr. Z attenuator installed in the cabinet but it was still loud. I would recommend maybe a Rivera Rock Crusher if you wanted to get down to TV volume and still sound great.
