I’ve had two of these and both were amazing. Totally reactive to your guitar’s volume knob and your touch. I could go from Spanky fender disco funk into vox chime, through jtm45 grunt and end up at hot jcm800. And the tube rectifier made it so nice and spongy and it breathed... way louder than any 30W amp had a right to be. Just used the lead channel, as I had every tone I needed with my volume knob. I now have a Dual stage 30, and it’s just ridiculous. The pre peavey Budda’s are by far and away the best amps I’ve ever played through, and I’ve been playing for 53 years and played through just about everything.

Great amp! I bought two Buddas in 1998/99. I had the String Master 30 and the Dual Stage 30. Both are amazing amps. I traded them in 2000 for a Bogner XTC... another great amps... so many amps so little time. Great video... nice to see one of the early Budda amps. Scot and Jeff made some killer amps in those days.

Thank you! Yes it is a nice amp. When I finally got a handwired Vox AC30 I realized just how much the Stringmaster sounded like a Vox! It's almost identical tone wise.

Sounds excellent. I just bought a Budda SuperDrive v40 series 2 with 2-12s. It sounds really good. I wanna hear it cranked.

That's great have you turned it up yet? Sorry I just saw this...

Phat speakers. They were the stock speakers that came with the amp. I've tried it through alnicos, various Celestions and vintage Fanes also a 4x12 with vintage Greenbacks and they all sound great.

Hey Tim, I was the guy that sold you this amp. I'm also the one that got it tuned up by Jeff Bober and had him sign the back plate. I hated to let it go, but years later I ran into a 2X12 version that I probably paid to much for. Any idea where this amp is now?

yeah it was a great amp and I remember talking with you about it. I traded it to a guy in New York. I couldn't sell it because boutique amps are hard to sell sometimes

I remember some time ago we almost traded for this amp. killer.

We did? It's possible I couldn't give it away. For some reason these amps have a very low resale value even though they are killer.

Yeah I can't remember exactly what I was parting with, if it was divided by 13 stuff or something else. Anyhow, we never worked it out which is totally cool. But yeah great amps that unfortunately didn't maintain value. Probably because of the cork sniffing attitudes on TGP and because Budda went to Peavey. Those old Buddas are awesome and along with Matchless part of the reason tube amps starting being properly made again.

Kind of a Peavey tone!! Cool...

This is an original 1997 Pre-Peavey. Actually it sounds just like a Vox AC30.

To me, at least in my computer speakers, it sounds peavey-ish. Less top end harmonics and less mid focus than the ac30. But I agree that there is also that british breakup kind of vibe. Peavey has been around way before 1997, but maybe you just meant pre peavey, as it was built before peavey owned the brand?

Hey tim curious what you sold this for and how long it took to sell? Thanks!

Wow… Very good question. I couldn’t sell this for at least three or four months the best offer I got was $1000.
I ended up trading it for a Marshal re-issue JTM 45 head.
I ended up with a Vox AC 30 Handwired and it is almost the same as the Budda, very close.

    Sound like a Create amp

Thank you it is! Although I sold it. It's almost identical to a Vox AC30 with the master bypassed. But Budda amps are so cheap used. You can get a Pre-Peavey handwired Budda for like $700 cheaper than a handwired Vox.
