Running one of the most rugged trails in Canada
In this video I am back to trail run one of the most beautiful but very rugged trails in British Columbia and in all of Canada.
Welcome to the Howe Sound Crest Trail.
Truthfully, this video does not do justice for how savage some of the parts of this trail really are. You really need to experience it for yourself.
You can also check out the other video I made of this trail: ‘Quality Of Living - Running the Howe Sound Crest Trail’ which you find more tips on water sources, navigation tips, etc.

2 nights winter camping on the West Coast of Canada
Просмотров 2958 месяцев назад
We just spent 2 nights camping at Porteau Cove Provincial Park. This is a beautiful area located near Squamish, BC. We don't usually do much 'pay camping' but this place is a gem and luckily in Winter time, there is a lot of solitude. I thought I would share our adventure with you guys. We had the pleasure of enjoying nights under the stars with sea lions, among other wildlife. This is a beauti...

Asking why does it has a snow there?
There is usually snow at the higher elevations until late summer. It’s actually very common at that time of year that There will be snow up there 👍
@@quality.of.living i see hopefully i can do what you can do like this.. like i hiking garibaldi lake and almost die dang! but hiking using running i mean thats tough!! can you share some tip how to have a cardio like you and etc to do this kind of stuff sorry my english is bad
Great video! The trail and the views look amazing! Is it possible to do it as a 2 day hike?
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it! Yes, absolutely doing it over 2-3 days would be the most recommended as a backpacking trip! The very first time I did it over two days and finished at nightfall almost on the second day. What’s really nice is doing it over two nights and finishing on the third day and that allows you the time to pick a couple good camp locations as well as enjoy the sights along the way 👍
Great video!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
HSCT is not a technical trail. It’s about as good as a trail gets here in BC.
I don’t disagree, it’s classic trail for sure, but you don’t think the section between the lions and Magnesia Meadows is technical? What local trail DO you think is technical?
There are some spots that are technical - which is the point I wanted to get across. I just wanted the viewers to know what they are getting into. For sure, there are definitely more full on technical routes in BC per km, but was just trying to emphasize it has some technical sections.
No I don't. Throngs of people do it every day with 50lb camping packs. A technical trail would be Sky Pilot. That involves navigating a small glacier, as well as climbing and downclimbing with real exposure that could kill you.
@@sashaspano588fair point.
What a trooper 🫡
Thanks! It’s definitely a challenging trail, but the solitude amongst the scenic views make it worth it!
I just went up to Iceberg Lake above Whistler today. It was OK. Next I want to do Brandywine Meadows.
@@mark2073 nice! Yeah, I haven’t been to iceberg Lake, but I’ve seen the pictures and it looks cool. Brandywine meadows Ive heard good about too 👍
“Why do I do this?” You say lol. I would imagine the extreme sense of satisfaction afterwards and knowing that the next exciting adventure is just around the corner! Nice video, we’re lucky to live in a great area
@@Ozinretirement well said! I couldn’t agree more 💪🙏 Thanks very much for the comment. Yes we are lucky to have the landscape we do here!
"Fat Ass Peak" had me dying lol great video
I know right! Haha I don’t know how they came up with that name... Thanks very much for the comment! 🙏
How scared of bears should I be? How do you make noise in these trails when you're alone?
I find with the bears if you respect them they will respect you. Black bears (which are the most common around there) are naturally afraid of us and want to be left alone. If Im alone I always talk to myself (I have a deep / loud voice which does help haha) - but yea just making lots of sounds in general if you are alone. Whistling and making noise lets them know you are coming through their territory - and if you’re with someone just keep a conversation going in areas with dense forest where you can’t see around d the corner - the Bears will likely hear you first and leave away from you. You can also invest in a bear bell which you can attach to your backpack which makes noise as you hike. Also always carry bear guard (bear spray) just as a last resort. Hope that helps!
Amazing job!
Thanks!
so inspiring !
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you for the comment 🙏
Did this a couple of weeks ago. Live in a very flat county in the uk. Took 11.5 hours in 34 degree heat. 8 litres drunk along the way.
Nice, that’s awesome! The heat was pretty intense recently. I really want to check out the UK someday I have heritage there myself. Thanks for sharing! 🙏
Wonderful and awesome, So cool atmosphere, super amazing presentation, Incredible and Brilliant work 👍👍🌸✨❄❄❄
Thank you very much for the comment! I have more similar content coming soon as well! Thanks! 🙏
@@quality.of.living 🤗🌸
Used to run in and out in a day for the fishing back in the early 70's. You can also go out via Aenstick Meadows to the Mamquam River. The glaciers are noticeably smaller now. Thanks for the memory.
That’s awesome, thanks for sharing and thanks for the comment! 🙏 I’ll have to check out that other optional route in the future
Love your video, Inspiration to check it out
Thank you very much. I really appreciate the support!

Thanks! Yea it was very serene and peaceful out there 👍
Good job! One point off feedback, your video is about 19 minutes, almost 8 of it was you talking. More silent moments please
Thanks for your feedback! I’ll keep that in mind for future projects 🙏
Looks amazing out there!
Hi dear friend Great video Good luck subscribe👍💙
Thank you very much for your support! 🙏
Appreciate you showing how it’s done, being smart in the outdoors: essentials to take (bear spray), planning water refills (seeing you using the Salomon flask with the filter), navigation (handrailing and using landmarks for orientation) and overall your comments about the tricky parts of the trail - great content! 👌
Thank you very much for your support! I really appreciate it! 🙏
Really appreciate you taking the time to film this! I plan on doing this in one day sometime this summer, so your video's a great overview of what to expect. Thanks so much!
Thanks very much for the support and glad you got some value from the video! My pleasure 🙏

HOPE isn't in the Rockies; maybe the Coast Range, but ?
It’s the cascade mountain range. That’s correct, its not quite the Rockies. The Rockies are a little bit further behind in BC, I made an error on that one.
Awesome video! I would like to see what the food you make looks like and your opinion of it! Maybe you could show it, try it and review it!
Thanks very much for your support! And I appreciate the feedback. I will keep that in mind and try to incorporate more of that in the videos & more of those details! Thank you 🙏
Great video - I am therefore a new subscriber 👍😊
Thanks very much for your support, I greatly appreciate it! 🙏
Is there a reason you don't drink the boiling water you put in your Nalgene the next day after it has cooled?
That’s a good question, as it would be safe to drink. If my water supply was scarce, I would drink it for sure. I had a 2 L reserve water bladder for the way back down the next day so didn’t feel the need. But situation dictates, I would be fine drinking it too! And it would be safe to do so. Also, I think the back of my mind, even though I know it’s chemical free in the water bottle, I guess drinking the water next day wouldn’t be my first choice per say (at most the water could taste slightly “different”; but would be fine)
@@quality.of.living , oh, good. I drink mine so I dont have to melt more snow. Wanted to make sure there wasn't something I wasn't aware of! Thanks for sharing another winter adventure - they're my favorite to watch! 🙂

Good job getting another camp out of the winter season! I always tell people to shake the blood into their hands as well, but I use a slightly different motion, like a pendulum, I don't do the full circle, just the lower 160° and that way my shoulders stay in a normal position, I find it just a little more effective and quite a bit more comfortable. I bike in the cold a lot and it takes the blood out of my hands so I do this a ton.
Thanks for the support brother! I’ll give that a shot as well trying your approach 👍🤙
@@quality.of.living can't hurt to try. Cheers!
Great video. Those drone shots are just amazing. I'm ...hoping ( 🥁) to get out in that area this summer. I need a bit more winter experience and gear before I'm up that high in the winter though.
Thank you, I appreciate the support! Definitely some beautiful landscape out that way. Nice! I hear ya, well best wishes to your future endeavours!! 🙏
Great video. I’m looking forward to get out backpacking next week on the Alberta side of the Rockies.
Thank you for the support! That sounds amazing, I love Alberta so much, so many stunning landscapes out that way! Hope you have a great trip! 🙏
Same here! I'm hoping to get out to Whitehorse Wildland while the falls are raging.
I would love to visit the Yukon territories! Canada definitely has some beauty. Can’t wait to see out that way in time!
@@quality.of.living Whitehorse Wildland is in Alberta near Cadomin. It's a beautiful backcountry park that connects to the Great Divide to the South and up Fiddle Pass into Miette/Jasper to the North.
Awesome live narration! Good times! Definitely needed your extensions. If the incline isn't too steep, skin-based skis like OAC KAR 149mm skis have way better floatation than snowshoes, I had mine out in bottomless snow this winter in NS... But they only climb up to a certain incline then they slide back, that's when it's gotta be snowshoes. Looking forward to more adventures!
Thanks brother appreciate the support! I’ll keep that in mind! Haven’t done much skiing, but wouldn’t mind diversifying a bit and learning. Awesome channel you got btw! Subbed the other day 👍

I sweat no matter what... i just accept and battle it wearing as little as possible... i also wear big boot so have to keep hot water in at night them to dry/warm 😂 nerve damage causes hypersensitive feeling in feet... im just happy im able to get out as much as i do!! Never give up!
Love it brother! I can relate on the nerve damage. I got minor frost bite/was not wearing good boots that messed with the circulation as well and my big toe has never been the same and when I’m in cold climates, I really get the numbing sensation in the toe ever since, Keep up the great work! Never give up 🙏
Another great video. Fantastic and winterly conditions!
