    I do NOT understand the cash on hand. I have a written budget, just like your book. I do online banking. The week before all four of my checks arrives in my account, I recheck my balances owed and how much I am going to pay each account. I only keep a few hundred in cash in my home. In case I have to pay some odd bill,gift or emergency where all debit cards are down. I have known what my expenses are as long as I can recall. I have no student loans, no car payment, just a small mortgage and four credit cards I want to kill. I have savings, but that is longer and cannot be touched. I want to save a more liquid savings account Dating? I’d love to find someone to date. My hair cuts are every three months. My service dog groom and pet care. On purses,I am still using the Chanel bags I bought way back in the 1980’s. Great budget book. I do not use cash to fill, but I have an excel spreadsheets and I enter the amount I am going to pay down. I keep track of every aspect of my life, my home, my children, my grandchildren. I would like to travel again,but after 35years of military moves,there are very few places I have not been too! I cannot imagine traveling for fun.. ‘ I can show every budget from 1978 to present day.

    With a debt that high I would first reach out to the budget mom. I’m no pro at financial advisory, but I feel you have way to many envelopes. You could combine a lot. For instance Self care make that into one envelope. But it’s your journey and I’m here to support. New subscriber, I’m also trying to pay off some debt not as much as you but it’s still debt. I was literally in tears yesterday because of how much interest it took from my payment.

  • @michelleadams5609
    @michelleadams5609 4 месяца назад

    Oh Lord. Edison. You're in CA and we have similar numbers (not debt but expenses). The only way out is to settle all the debts. It would ruin your credit though. This is panic-inducing.

  • @michelleadams5609
    @michelleadams5609 4 месяца назад

    We make a high income, but our rents are also pretty high. I don't have family to fall back on. I'm taking care of my family now. This is a tough road ahead. The economy will get much worse. The only thing that really moves the needle is income. I worked more cases one year and was able to make $340k. Did I pay off all my debt? Definitely not. Because I knew that the next year I would not make much because I started a business. Then, Covid happened and I had to shut my business down for over 3 years. I know people emphasize Debt Repayment, but I can handle that. I couldn't handle not being able to pay my rent and my expenses. You have to save. The world is uncertain. If your debts are unsecured, they're a lesser priority. I was able to settle with most debt to 90% off, one by one, and save that money. I don't buy luxury items, I don't buy purses. I don't go out to eat. I don't go on vacations (I'm literally an hour's drive from the best beaches in CA, the mountains, desert--all for free), and I sure don't have subscriptions because I'm too busy working, or working on my business doing what I love than to watch anything. Also, cash envelopes and small tips are too time-consuming. I don't know a wealthy person who has ever done that. I've tried doing it several times, but it's too time-consuming. I have a budget, I stick to it on one sheet. If it's not on one-sheet, then it's not going to be actionable.

    All your wants and extras need to go - there is no “pampering” while getting debt free. This will be the most uncomfortable process of your life if done right and that uncomfortable feeling will make sure you never get back in debt ever again.

  • @Print824
    @Print824 4 месяца назад

    I understand a lot of people are trying to give you advice to pay it off quicker,but some advice isn’t always helpful. In your situation, you’ll need to enjoy the process so you are able to stay consistent. So if that means saving for a trip or saving for a gift because you met a debt payoff milestone, do it. Because at the end of the day you’ll look back on that gift or memory and say you paid off xxxx amount and have that as a reward. Also exercising a savings plan at the same time, will motivate you to not rack up that get it/got it now debt. This will help you in the future when you are debt free and keep that mindset of saving. What works for you, may not work for others. And definitely change it if this payoff strategy isn’t working. Everyone is quick to tell you what you should do but there was a mindset you had that got you into debt. You’ll want to change it, but it takes time. I hope you can come back on and do an update at the year mark. Thank you for taking the time to share your journey with us. It’s very motivational.

    You’re killing it! I’m an accountant and a big fan of personal finance ❤ I know you have a lot of debt to pay down but I want to encourage you that if you have any cash left over from envelopes, start saving in a high yield savings account and/or an auto investment account like Betterment so you’ll make money by saving ❤ I started investing at 22 and it has saved my @$$ so many times! 😅 It will be hard but I think you can do both while still prioritizing paying down debt ETA: my ex used to give me crap about only saving $50/month to my investment fund but with compound interest and gains I was able to save around $2K to use towards a divorce 😅 all of this to say you don’t have to save/invest a lot per month to make a difference

      In my bank account my buffer is my emergency fund which is about $2500. However, my main goal is saving right now due to a major health crisis so anything over 3k will probably be put into an actual saving account. But that's how I deal with my buffer. A year or two ago my buffer was maybe $200 because that is all I could have so things definetly change!

    I’m not trying to sound mean, but it really doesn’t sound like you’re ready to get out of debt. It doesn’t hurt enough yet. You have every excuse under the sun why you can’t change your behavior. You still want your lifestyle. You still want to live beyond your means and go on vacation (paid for in cash or not, you can’t afford it).You don’t seem to want to sacrifice to achieve financial freedom for yourself. And the only way this works is if you’re so sick and tired of being held down by debt that you are willing to put in the blood, sweat, tears and SACRIFICE to make it happen. It’s pretty simple. You can’t get out of debt if you’re still ok with living a lifestyle you can’t afford. It doesn’t matter if you have 1 Million YT subscribers cheering for you. YOU need to want it badly enough for YOU.

    I think that honest approach is great, but... for a person with that much consumer debt you sure have waaaay too many "self centered" sinking funds. Nails? Nope. Luxury? Nope. Self care? Nope as well. If you want to be "adulting" first step is to toss those envelopes out!
