Yep I enjoy Age of Extinction. It's not amazing or anything but I have a good time whenever I watch it. I also like that kinda the main human villain in that movie actually swaps sides and becomes a good guy. You don't see that happen often. He gets told that what he's doing is gonna cause trouble and he goes, "Yeah maybe this isn't a good idea." I had a huge crush on Blackarachnia as a kid and do kinda want attractive girl transformers. This is a children's toy franchise however and so this maybe is not the right franchise for such things. If you think Nicee is bad you should see FansToys Rouge. Now that is a ridiculous figure. I honestly don't really care what kinda truck Optimus is as long as he's some sort of truck. That said I do think that the truck he becomes in Age of Extinction is worse than the truck he was in the first 3 movies. I'll give maybe another hot take here. I want them to bring back super modes for Optimus. I've been watching Energon/Superlink lately and while I don't think the show is all that great seeing Optimus go into his super mode is always a treat.

My hot take is... Replace "Age of Extinction" with "Transformers 2007" and you have mine. The first film wasn't trying to be anything particularly thought-provoking, it was intended as a fun action flick that doubled as a way to sell toys, and by god it succeeds. I honestly think the characters in that movie, from our protagonists the brave, yet awkward and panic-stricken Sam Witwicky and deceptively gifted and intelligent Mikaela Banes to the members of Sector Seven are actually mostly enjoyable to watch and don't outstay their welcome, whilst the Transformers themselves are treated as awe-inspiring and mighty. Plus, the sound design, action, and music are actually pretty exciting. It really isn't worthy of the hate, and there are much worse blockbusters from the 2000s out there than this movie out to strike awe and excitement in you whilst selling toys. Trust me, I've seen X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I know what I'm talking about. Transformers is PEANUTS in comparison to X-Men Origins.

The closest we had to Thundercracker's true bio in the G1 cartoon was Fire on the Mountain (S01E09), where he hesitates to kill Skyfire, but then that's really only in a hope that the fall out will be on Starscream and not just for saving Skyfire's life. I think Thundercracker has a small cutscene in Transformers: Devastation too, where he briefly helps Prime after being shot down.

I'm glad to finally see some positive ygo content. The game isn't perfect but this idea online that ygo is just bad really bothers me.

Siege is my favorite of the modern G1 Megatrons. Like implied, he follows in the spirit of Shockwave as being a sci-fi alt mode. It paints him as in the same category of that character. Plus, since he looks down on the humans, it's logical he'd see their technology as beneath him. He's only interested in plundering their resources.

Looking back, I think itd be tight if Megatron turned into an SU-27 Flanker. In order to symbolize the rivalry between him & Starscream. That said the Flanker entered service in 1985. (a year after G1) And was not well known to the general public at the time.

It's not a problematic Alt-Mode, it's the US law that made it problematic. The Transformers/Diaclone were conceived with a lot of creativity in Japan unlike today everything is like a vehicle of some sorts. This is why Soundwave is the coolest toy/Transformers ever. A cassette deck and his tape of minions. What's not to love? Today's TF simply are devoid of creativity.

I have that Ratchet and its so weird, he looks nothing like that in the cartoon and only has that appearance in early comics I believe.

The gun mode was just a bad idea, at any level but especially at the toy level for any kind of practical use, he doesn’t stand well. I took mine to school once, once! I was told toy guns were not allowed at schools. In the cartoon, a gun didn’t make sense, in an alternate universe, I wonder if they chose something else.

I def didn’t want headless robots. That it was a mech suit design makes so much more sense now. TY

As someone who grew up with the bay films and toys of the bay films so they hold a special place in my heart

In the original concept art the staircase is a very eye catching part of the set. They really should have kept that, it looks way better than the snake head tower that replaced it. It could still fit in all of the current interior and even take up less horizontal space if they make it a triangular one piece, no need for hinges.

Of the three original seekers, to me, Thundercracker had a compelling personality: a transformer who believes in air superiority, yet, as a Decepticon, he became increasingly insecure. The G1 cartoon did him no justice (though I loved Stephenson's voice acting), but the IDW comics exploited his personality, even to the point of preferring Earth to Cybertron. This is why I prefer Thundercracker to both Starscream and Skywarp.

Ironhide's head seems a reduced Prime's head.

Aha, I was just about to mention the Baron from Gobots! He was odd. I never had Ironhide/Ratchet, so I wasn't aware of the anaemic nature, but I knew about the lack of head.

My biggest problem with modern Megatron designs is how the designers have the robot mode resemble his g1 counterpart as closely as possible while giving him an alternative mode that doesn't match. I.E. they want to have their cake and eat it too. I have the same problem with Soundwave and Blaster.

Michael Bay didn't want Autobots or even talking Transformers. He was fought by the fanbase and his own team and finally caved. Once he did, agreeing to cast Cullen was the right call, I'll give him that. But he didn't fix anything. It was the writers, design team, VFX team, and Cullen that revived the character. If anything, he was holding them back. Most shots that don't use CGI as a crutch look terrible, off-centre, shaky, and oversaturated. And he's still holding them back as a producer with Lorenzo di BonaVentura, so anyone saying they need Bay to "save the franchise" doesn't know what they're talking about.

Ever since the movies, Optimus has had this world-weary sadness to him, it makes sense but it made Skybound Optimus returning to his “robot Superman” roots so refreshing. Optimus should be reinvigorated as person when he leads his Autobots to their new homeworld.

Honestly I disliked the flames more. It's a bit gaudy and makes Prime come off as if he's an old guy trying to be cool. Not to mention flames are Hot Rods thing. As far as anachronistic, I prefer timeless. It has evolved from "Optimus is a cab over Semi" to "Every cab over semi is Optimus Prime". I mean, I know when I see the rare one in the wild, thats my first thought.

Or...and bear with me here.... over 150 other countries exist in the world that they sell transformers in other then the US... Next you will tell me the winner of the Superbowl is the World Champion lol
