    Sorry to tell you those are both new bowls, not antique. They're the hand hammered bronze bowls in the antique matte finish. Nothing old about them at all. And you're correct - there are no known antiques that large.

    They sound as sharp and crisp as my newly made bowls, which are right there with yours, around 20 inches and 15 inches. Real giant antique are 13-14 inches at the most and very rare. Again it relative to what you believe is antique, 40 years old or 200+. But they definitely didn’t make 20 inches bowls back in the early period, from ancient Persia 12-14 century down to the later period where the best sounding bowls were made 17-19 century.

      Thank you yes ! this is part of my collection . I’m a visual artist deeply interested in the language and symbolism of different cultures , As an artist I create explore play and discover , through the unknown as well as studying the known through reading and intellectual pursuit . I find direct cognitive Experiance deeper and more multifaceted , so I began collecting Art and cultural religious objects about 38 years ago . I found that living with and using Ritual objects gradually deepened in to a Shamanic practice , and I funded my colecting by supplying authentic empowered ritual objects to other practitioner around the world . The last 10 years I’ve been based in Nepal working with Himalayan shaman and filming for several TV documentary series on shamanism and on the Spiritual festivals of nepal . This filming work is well advanced but not yet compleated , and will be accompanied by 3 books also ongoing , my collecting supports this , and helps me to understand the symbolic languages and processes , revealed within the objects , but often not found in academic writing or articulated in first person interviews

      Hello Antonio . I bought some of the bowls from bowl and antique ,dealers in Kathmandu but you really have to know what to look for as 95% to 99% of the bowls that look old are modern but made to look old . You can usually tell by the sound and touch . The older bowls often have some silver content and are warmer and creamier to the touch , also the sound is richer usually with better harmonics than modern bowls . Also stylistically there are lots of older bowl shapes that are no longer made like the chama bowls or tulip bowls with the slightly out turned rim . Also old bows sometimes have thicker rims with a groove along the top edge as a form of fine tuning , modern bowls never have these features , as it’s too much work and probably beyond the skill of modern makers . I also send scouts all over the Himalayas and in to India naga land and bangladesh looking for old singing bowls , the last few years the most interesting and unusual bowls came from the remote tribal groups in far west nepal , some fantastic lingum bowls from naga land and from bengal . The naga bowls are coming from Bangladesh .

      Great answer! Thanls so much for the rich details. Unfortunately I have to stick with local dealers, who never sell the real stuff, although the sound quality is fairly good. Thanks again and congratulations for your amazing collection.

    Phurba is not pronounced 'furba' - there is no 'f' sound in the Tibetan language. Phurba is pronounced 'purba' - the 'h' is gently aspirated. Nepalese dealers will understand if you say 'furba' because so many Westerners make this mistake!

    the third one is not a dagger, it simply does not have the dimensions or the shape to be a small sized bladed weapon. its still a utility tool. 7:28, I have in my collection such ones as well. I can confirm that it is not a blood grove for blood to drain away, its more of a tradition to put that ding there. It originates from the days when the Tibetans used to split a yak bone from between and sharpen the two halves to turn them into knives, the part that formed the insides of the bone had that characteristic dent from the hollow part of the bone where the bone marrow would be. Hence, when Tibetans started to make knives from metal, they put that dent in there to replicate their bone knives from the past.

      Hello Mario yes many of the shamanic groups in Nepal wear peacock feathered head dresses . And some use feather fans made of peacock feathers for protection and cleaning away evil . The peacock feathered head dresses represent spiritual openness purity protection and also the light body . Among Buddhist shaman , With a Tibetan tribal root , the peacock is also seen as the purifier of poisons , because peacocks 🦚 are able to eat many poisonous plants . Peacocks are often depicted on shamanic phurba and associated with Garuda and with the protective light of the Sun . Sometimes there depicted along with tigers and there then associated with dawn and dusk . I’ve also seen peacock legs and skulls attached to Magar shamanic spiritual armor . In this context the idea of “ from head to foot embodies the symbolism of completeness

I am using also old singing bowls for my personal practice, and in working with sound and vibration to get into a meditative state. I have a curiosity and maybe you can explain some of the uses of the singing bowls in ceremony. How they were used in the monasteries and what was the purpose of using them? Are there still monasteries in the Himalayas who are using singing bowls? Do you know any examples or shamans who were using the singing bowls in exorcism? I would propose, if you have any experience, to tell us about the traditional use of singing bowls as part of ceremony or in shamanism. @@sixty9media I’m mostly finding the masks in various antique shops so unfortunately, there is rarely information related to the masks and other objects . But I always ask questions . I’ve been working directly with and filming shaman in nepal full time for over 10 years and I sometimes show them the masks and other ritual objects and use them ritually ,with the shaman . I occasionally buy masks and ritual objects from shamanic families where the last shaman have died and the family members are not taking up shamanism’s . Then I’m able to get information about their use ,. I try my best to persuade the families to continue their traditions , and to keep the objects . But sometimes the sacred objects are deteriorating and not being looked after , and worse sometimes being destroyed, because family members have converted to Christianity or Islam .Thats sad because these family members then disrespect their ancestral spirits as well as the sacred objects . Im working directly as a Shaman , as well as studying and filming shamanism . And through my work many of the objects find their way back in to the hands of practicing shaman from many traditions

      Dating shamanic ritual objects is quite difficult. There

    • @paulwilkinson5970
      @paulwilkinson5970 2 года назад

      There are a lot of different things to look out for . In Dating shamanic drums .The amount of wear and patina on the phurba handle . Gives some indexation of the amount of use . Although some ritual objects are used only occasionally or kept in a shrine room as an ancestral object so wear isn’t always an indicator . Most Denguru frames are slit with the grain then heat bent in to a circle the overlapping part has iron or wooden pins or binding these can show deepening coloring with age . There are lots of stylistic quality’s that indicate age . Offen new drums are less well carved . The leather drum skin will also show wear as well as deep patina from smoke and offerings old drums have a particular feel . If the phurba drum handle has a Forged iron or copper tip that can be an indication of where also the iron work or copper work has a particular tone darkening with age . Old drums usually have at least 3 magical objects inside more modern drums made to look old often don’t have these elements . Forged ironwork always has flattered hammer marks very fine ironwork on a drum is more likely to be old . If the drum has its original skin this is most likely to be dear skin from a male animal on one site and a female dear on the other there are often traces of fur on the edges . Sometimes other animals like bear skin are used or rare animals like musk dear in old drums . Most modern drums use goat skin .

    Alltogether I spent one year with shamans in Nepal and they came visiting here in Germany to do healing sessions. Me too, I used to have a collection of shamanic objects including a whole basket with magar equipment. Everything burnt 2013 in a fire and only a ghanti mala which was in repair outside survived. Would like to exchange experiences.

    the knife made with chopsticks is Chinese made, it is a "mandarins" knife. made in the 19th century.. styled on mongolia knives but with Chinese features and a long narrow blade. these chinese mandairnes obviously didnt eat with the knife.. using a knife to eat against basic chinese traditions.... laws required Chinese submit in humiliation to the manchu invaders.. and this enforced the people to wear trousers.. shave their heads. grow a ponytail .. mustache ect. everything contrry to chinese laws and traditions. mandarins wore belt knives in emulation of the invading nomadic people costume....the invading manchus themselves styled their clothing and knives on the mongols.. who had in turn dominated them. so in turn the chinese made belt knives emulated these mongol blades. but they are slimmer and very narrow, some quite long. as they are not for cracking bones or slicing up an animal but more as a sign of authority and status.. the chopsticks were also probably not used some being to slim.. as people carried a functional pair in a lacquered case with them.. these were also traded into korea and some sets especially sold in korea can have a dozen little tools..and be very ornate and intricate. some of them sold in korea with have a korean style tanto tip like korean swords.. ... the Chinese became proficient in making these belt knives from precious metals at a price lower than the nomads made them.. some with agate or jade handles.. and then in the early 19th century when the ethnicity based laws the mancuhs had put in place banning chinese from areas that were not native chinese regions crumbled.. chinese began trading huge numbers of these with the nomads.. especially the mongols.. so you will see these knives. the chinese made examples are long and slender and have totally different aesthetics.. and their decoration is wrong for the traditions of the nomads but mixes the basic styles. because there was no contact between the makers of these knives and the nomadic buyers its immediately obvious when you see a mongol knife or tibetian one and made chinese "copy".. chopsticks for one thing are a dead giveaway. although many will lack them too.. but also the handle shape.. its slimness and aesthetics. the chinese made knives mix various nomads knife types into a single knife but add many chinese features, these mongolian style chinese knives were once common with chinese hui muslims also who were linked to the manchus government, but i dont believe they made them. i think most were probably made in huge numbers in one or two places in eastern china and then traded out as complete items. when the mancus collapsed their production cased instantly. . ... i have never seen any examples from southern china either.. and im really not sure where they were made but some older stouter chopstick-less more utilitarian ones from the 18th century (when the style appeared) show signs of government ownership markings such as date and arsenal information on the blade first in manchurian script and later ones in chinese glyphs . . .
