HOW DO I PICK THE RIGHT HOLSTER?
Lots of people are quick to offer suggestions on the best holster.
Fewer are able to qualify their recommendations beyond "I spent money on this thing, and now it's my favorite thing, so it should be your favorite thing too!"
The "why" is just as critical as the "what," and its absence can be equally telling.

DO LASERS ON HANDGUNS MAKE SENSE?
Просмотров 4973 месяца назад
Recently, I've heard several new concealed carriers ask about the benefits of lasers on carry guns. For the longest time, I dismissed a relic of 90s action movie nostalgia. Then, after being in situations where carrying an optimal EDC wasn't as practical, I realized that there might still be some value here. I REACT TO LUCKY GUNNER'S STYLE. Don't Be A Tactical Hobo.
DB9 GEN 4 DeSantis holster with extra magazine on my belt in a multi tool nylon sheath holder. One in the pipe always.
Anyone ever throw a j frame in the pocket without a holster ?
I know some people do. In an outside coat pocket, maybe you could get away with it, but a pocket holster is as much about consistent orientation as it is trigger guard coverage
Skinny jeans are a problem for concealed carry. I love 511 pants. Deep wide pockets.
Virtually nobody wears skinny jeans though. There's 4 different cuts between Relaxed & Skinny
@ Thanks, did not know that. What do you think the best cut is for style that is still usable for carrying a gun or even for that matter a phone or keys comfortably through out the day? Thanks.
@rmikel14789 I personally wear slim cut. Those have a slight taper in the leg from the knee to the ankle. Straight leg is exactly that, the leg opening is the same all the way down. Athletic cuts have more room in the thighs & the seat. I also like my jeans to have some stretch in them. 5.11, Duluth, Origin, Twillory.
@TheSuitedShootist thanks for the info. I’m going to have to try some of those styles the next time I go shopping for pants.
I almost lost my job from having pepper spray in my truck 😂
Oof. Glad it was "almost"
I don't agree with everything, but your insights change my thinking even when I don't agree. Nice.
I'm not here to change people's minds, just to make sure they're equipped with the info so they can make educated choices. I'm glad you found it useful.
So where do you get the right ammo?
I've been getting S&B from Lucky Gunner
I fully disagree. I only believe in one law, and that is shall not be in fringed.
@davidguymon1673 "The world is not as it should be, the world is as it is" - William Aprill You're welcome to live your life on your own principles, but that's not what will be in the jury instructions.
I just wish for a holster showroom where I could try mulitple models. For both duty AND EDC. I spent soo much because everyone just loves Safariland. I hate their duty holsters, but my second favorite EDC holster is a safariland.
The only way to conceal in this type of environment is below the belt line. I prefer Boraii kydex trigger guard with a shoe string through one of the holes in the kydex and looped behind your pant button. Learned that from Delta commando (John McPhee) who went into foreign embassies where carrying a firearm was not allowed.
The Enigma is the current iteration of that solution, and is my preferred discreet carry for exactly that reason
I was using kydex & I purchased an urban carry lock leather holster for my 🛡️+ & I'm extremely happy with it I just had to take it to the leather shop to move the clip up so it would sit an inch lower other than that it's a very nice comfortable holster & I just ordered a custom leather holster for My bodyguard 2.0 OWB off Etsy $75 bucks fits hella good... To each their own but I'm a leather fan
I'd strongly encourage you to seek a holster from a reputable maker that pressure-tests their designs. If I had my way, UrbanCarry wouldn't exist
@TheSuitedShootist awesome holster for my needs! Just don't buy their holster if it doesn't work for you, why do you got to try to put some other company out of business? That's just senseless & silly talk... I've been carrying guns for God knows how long & it's a really good holster. The gun is hidden holds its form very nice & the gun NEVER comes out + minimal wear on the slide. I appreciate your concern but I'm pretty damn happy & would purchase another. From My bodyguard 2.0 I picked a leather holster up off Etsy & 1 from kusiak holsters both OWB... I carry both my guns at the same time now. If i didn't think the urban carry was legit i would replace it, but it's fantastic for me... For me ONLY each their own
@honda116969 because EDC is emergency rescue gear, and companies that don't take that seriously shouldn't exist. Take it through a force-on-force class and see if your opinion on it changes. Some companies care about their customers prevailing, others just want their money. I show them the same respect they show the consumers in their marketing.
Streamline aesthetic: It's not the clothes. I'm just fat.
Your husband is the wrong holster... Look at him try, Darryl!
I thought it was a review😢
I haven't had enough time with it to give an honest, substantial review yet.
Bro your suit jacket is way too big.
That was kind of the point, to illustrate the drawbacks of concealing a shoulder rig
I carry a fxg cold steel ring dagger or i carry a vampire straw I made from carbon fiber that's my non metal tools I regularly carry the straw is custom made and passes for a legal item the fxg I have no idea about the law here in philippines on that but its well concealed if I'm carrying it
I can't count how many times I've seen people looking for a holster for their budget gun/light/laser setup.
Been there, learned that lesson. My first carry gun was a Ruger SR9c. Great budget gun but the only holsters were mass-produced cheap things. Then I had a SCCY. I know, I know, I hated it too, but the thing was perfectly reliable and a good size before the current crop of micro-9s came out. Again, only cheap chunky holsters for a cheap chunky gun. Then I got wise and bought an S&W M&P2.0 and could move up into serious holsters. Now I have a S&W Shield Plus 4" with a dot and a Sig P365 that I can find holsters for anywhere. The JMCK holsters I have for them are far superior in every way to the Vedders I bought for the SR9c and SCCY. I stick with major-brand guns for my carry guns now.
CC instructor suggested you have up to 6 seconds to draw. Else, statistically you would we wounded. So the muscle memory and your hardware has to fit your body type . Thanks for the video, as always 👍🏼
I'd be interested to know where they got that number from
@@TheSuitedShootistit’s part of the 21-foot rule
There's no such thing at "The 21 Foot Rule" Dennis Tueller's original exercise was to demonstrate why it is justifiable to draw and shoot an assailant outside arms reach. ruclips.net/video/YpSch1czFP0/видео.html There is no set window, it's all contexts dependent. That said, "up to 6 seconds" strikes me as an overly general blanket statement if no other context was provided. It's possible to get a pistol out 6 seconds before it's needed. That requires a level of awareness and understanding of pre-assault cues that tends to be absent in first-time concealed carry students.
@@TheSuitedShootist Thank you for clarifying. I am here to learn.
Happy to help. The general consensus is a sub-2 second draw is acceptable, sub-1.5 is ideal. That's generally scored on the A-Zone or -0 of a standard competition target at 7 yards.
I’m recently retired LEO and was in the military. Just bought this today and I’m loving it so far. I wear suits all the time for church and this will make it easier to edc all my goodies. Might have to buy the blue next. Might not be for everyone but I like the fit and style!
Shoot me first Blazer to go with your 5.11 shoot me first pants?
There's nothing "shoot me first" about the cut of this jacket, or their jeans/chinos. They've come a long way in 20 years.
I’ve been running a Bianchi open top leather IWB for 20 something years
I mean, it's not hard to add cuff buttons, you can do it home with needle, thread, and a RUclips video.
Thanks for the review. I'd like a more detailed video of you with several guns and the jacket as a cover garment. With that said, another good point is that it is machine wash and dry. I guess it's meant for everyday wear in and out of cars, eating in diners, etc.
Please provide details about the product / jacket in the description!?!? Maybe?? 🤔 🤷♂️
Looks cheap and outdated, how much ??
At the end of the day it’s an ugly sport coat. No buttons on cuffs, the outer pockets are open and exposed. I’ve concealed in business casual for years. Buy good clothes but slightly larger to conceal your gear.
Do you have any recommendations from your experience, brand-wise?
@ over the years I found Stafford brand to have a large selection and good quality at a reasonable price. Nothing fancy but not cheesy and it’ll be something you can wear and fit in anywhere. JCPenny carries them.
Also, about half of military guys have no clue how to wear a sport coat or suit…
To be fair, patch pockets make sense for a sport coat.
My current "travel jacket" is by Eddie Bauer - similar synthetic shell festooned with pockets, button-less sleeves. It has performed admirably as an ad-hoc rain jacket and resisted all manner of stain, sweat, and odor from long days of plane travel. Important for me living in the south was a light grey colorway that the 5.11 model doesn't offer. It'll never work for a proper business meeting, but as you implied, works great as an urban field jacket for all the various bits useful for a guy about town. I've noticed an extreme improvement in how I'm treated between a more casual jacket and a smarter travel sport coat. I recommend picking up the Eddie Bauer version and running a comparison in the future so people can judge which one might work better for them.
I like how 5.11 is getting away from the overtly tactical look. There are still tells if you know what you're looking for but this looks like a decent casual semi-tactical jacket. That Diamondback looks very nice and a video on that would be appreciated. For a less tactical travel jacket I have some old ScottEVest jackets that I load up and send through the x-ray machines.
Ask him if they’re gonna come out in Miami Vice colors pastel’s white whatever
I emailed the company multiple times when they are going to come out with this jacket. I’ve been very excited about it. I’m a huge 511 fan. I also asked them if they are going to release Miami Vice colors.
Typical, this is supposed to come out a year ago according to that liar, James Reeves, typical lawyer
when i spotted your thumb nail , i went to the 5.11 web sight and fond their listing for this jacket , i plan on getting one in each color next month . i am also going to get some items from duluth trading, from their new pitchman line ,which also includes shirts and pants.
I was hoping you would share your thoughts on this jacket when I saw your Kohl's short a few hours ago. You mentioned the fit was great for you, but I didn't hear you mention the size that you were wearing. XL? L?
okay but those shoulders are jacked up 😂
Excited to see them in stores to try on. Suit edc is still the hardest for me so this might help with that.
I'll caution that this is a pretty casual jacket. I wouldn't wear it to a formal event.
I was hoping for a sport coat to wear to Lodge or other events where I need a tie and sport coat.
@NavyMooseCMMC if a tie is called for, I think this might be too casual an option
Just bought the black and I’m loving it. I can blend this in fine with a tie imo for church and other events. There’s so many cool compartments I’m still trying to figure out.

What are the color options?
Currently black or navy
@ Yes! That are the selections on 5-11’s site. I was thinking you might have been presented additional color options as an early-access individual :-)
@ 3xl is needed; is your jacket an xl? I was thinking it would be a 2xl, per the sizing guide.
What size are you wearing? Thanks.
Have they?
🤣🤣
Sticky Holsters for my Taurus 856 (6-shot) and Smith & Wesson bodyguard .38 special (5-shot) pistols for the reasons you discuss.
S&W bodyguard 2.0 and a Vedder pocket holster is a great comfortable combo I’ve been carrying everyday!
My problem is that I’ve always wanted to carry AND not print at all. I’m a bit paranoid about being called out. Seems that every method out there can mask a firearm but very few actually make it disappear. Same goes specifically for pocket carry. I don’t wish to look like I’m carrying a fat wallet in my pocket. I want to look like I don’t have ANYTHING in my pocket. Sadly, I’ll keep working on it.
Absolutely agree. I’ve always been into firearms, but my career has always lead me into circles where that is generally considered odd or weird. At worse, it could potentially impact my career negatively. I enjoy what I do so I’m not about to just drop my career, but it does mean I will not share that part of my life and interests with co workers. I’ve encountered some ccw folks who are like “just quit your job” or “I would never work at a place where I couldn’t carry”. But see, I actually LIKE my job and my career. So I’ll just deal with it. It’s not just about carry at work. Your coworkers are also your social circle and the places they like to hang out. It really does matter
I recently picked up a bone tactical ghost knife it’s ceramic and 100% non-metallic and it is razor sharp and I really like it. I haven’t really thought much about G 10 but I’m getting there. There are a few profiles that I think are pretty cool, but I like the sharpness of the ceramic.
You ought to investigate the .32 H&R Mag snubbies. They give you 6 rds of capacity and the caliber is no slouch for power.
I'm friends with the guys who made the UC happen. It's tempting, but I'm not sure there's enough performance upgrad from my LCR 22 and M&P 340 to justify the expense.
5-shot leather. I have several
Do basically like a wethepeopleholsters but with actual quality good to know the for the video
If anything this video has solidified my plan to get a slab of G10 and duplicate a clinch pick. Making an additional non metallic sheath would be an issue but still might be a fun project.
I'm currently testing a Clinch Pick style blade from Revenant.
@ I feel like I saw it after watching this, my only gripe was the sheath was seemingly much larger than the clinch pick. I’m looking for something for horizontal appendix carry and size makes a difference on how comfortably I can wear it. Looking forward to seeing a possible review on the Revenant.
