High Water Ahead
США
Добавлен 8 янв 2019
We are High Water Ahead and these are the chronicles of our whitewater adventures. Our team of paddlers is dedicated to finding and documenting the best whitewater rafting in the country. Nate Simms, Nila Bias, and Jeff Wahler are our main team members, with many more contributing content when they can.
Most of what we post is intended as a mix of entertainment and river information. Mostly it's just us taking our little rubber boats down dangerous stuff for fun.
If you don't raft, we hope you get a kick out of our videos and they inspire you to hit the water sometime.
If you do raft, we hope these videos give you some beta for your next run or inspire you to get sendy with it.
Cheers and Praise Earl.
Watching a video is not enough to prepare you for Class V Whitewater. There is no substitute for practice, knowledge, and preparation. Know your abilities and respect the river. Earl giveth and Earl taketh away.

High Side Ahead: A Grand Canyon Adventure - Whitewater Rafting in the Grand Canyon for 18 Days
"Form and color do not exhaust all of the divine qualities of the Grand Canyon...It is the land of music. The river thunders in perpetual roar, swelling in floods of music when the storm gods play upon the rocks and fading away in soft and low murmurs when the infinite blue of heaven is unveiled. Mountains of music swell in the rivers, hills of music billow in the creeks, and meadows of music murmur in the rills that ripple over the rocks. Altogether it is a symphony of multitudinous melodies. All this is the music of waters. The adamant foundations of the earth have been wrought into a sublime harp, upon which the clouds of the heavens play with mighty tempests or with gentle showers." -...

The Chamise Gorge ~ 2300 CFS @ Below Fairview ~ Nila Bias R1 Rafting the Upper Kern River
Просмотров 2313 месяца назад
Nila's first R1 on Chamise from earlier in the summer. This is absolutely our favorite run on the Upper Kern. You can lap it is multiple times in a day, and it's packed from top to bottom with AWESOME rapids. This run feels so difficult the first time you go down by yourself, but the learning curve (or the comfort curve) is super steep. The Upper Kern, or the North Fork of the Kern, is one of S...
Rafting Bailey Canyon ~ 413 CFS @ Bailey, CO ~ Ginger Jeff on the NF of the South Platte in Colorado

Bailey Fest was absolutely stellar. We haven't gotten around to editing all of the runs from our 3 day weekend there, but to hold everyone over for the movie, we've got Ginger Jeff's first R1 on Bailey. Jeff showed up at the Fest Grounds at 4am the morning of this lap, and absolutely sent it on very little sleep and very little scouting. Bailey Canyon of the North Fork of the South Platte is on...

Can Carson Falls be run any further left at this level? Just curious. Awesome video! Beautiful place! Great job paddling !!
What was your launch date? What kinda flows were you running at? Love the colours!!
Launched November 18th, flows between 8k-13k!
Great stuff!
The Smith is a beautiful river. The Smith is also one of the cleanest rivers in the states outside of Alaska.
Dude your trying the WILDEST river n the us...
Dam this river looks like a wild woman.
Thats not northern California. Crater lake is in oregon
Yeah we had to drive from Bend, OR, to the Six Rivers National Forest near Gasquet, CA. We passed crater lake and the rogue river canyon on the way there. Try finishing the video and you’ll see that we DO end up in NorCal 💁♂️
@@Highwaterahead I watched it... Infact I rafted the Trinity river in February one year. 16 miles/4 hours .. ..the Smith is nothing like the Trinity.
@ have you rafted the smith? BRG on the trinity is stout but there are a few sections on the middle fork of the smith, the south fork gorge, and the north fork that rival BRG depending on the flows. Not to discount your experience but if you haven’t been down any of the sections on the smith you can’t really compare. We did 13 miles on the north fork of the smith in 4 hours but we also stopped and hung out multiple times.
@Highwaterahead I watched the video and it was very impressive..... And it looked like a lot of fun ...during the spring and summer I kayak ok the ocean out of Trinidad California... I highly recommend doing that
@ that’s sick see kayaking is a little intense for me though lol
The chucky line was terrifying.
Great video!!!! Loved every minute of it. Also, Aaron with the first flip had me giggling like a little girl :D
Thanks buddy! Miss you man Hope everything’s good in kernville!
Such a great capture of the emotions of a GC trip! Best GC video I've seen.
It was an awesome trip with great people and unbelievable scenery, and I'm glad you feel that came through in the video!
This is awesome!!
@@LeaflyLydia thanks! It was a sick trip with some beautiful goobers
@ looks like it :) also congratulations to you and your lady!!
Not me scrolling for Bedrock immediately.....😂 What a trip! Hype for yall and the whole crew, appreciate the content!
@@spenny12 thanks! I totally understand everyone wants to see the carnage 😂
it’s like a 🧲
It is every boat on the trip hit it on some level or another it was rowdy
Right on!!
Gnarly rapid haha
Right on! I’m working the new next year!
Hell yeah definitely do Gauley training after the summer if you get the chance I haven’t guided out there yet never lined up time wise but it’s one hell of a river
What a save !!!! 😮😊😮😅
Was that little lava?
@@23jdizo no it’s upset!
Was that little lava?
No upset is a ways upstream from Lava proper and little Lava is the rapid right after Lava. The bottom of little lava is tequila beach
How is this fun? 😩
The thrill of risking your life and surviving is immaculate.
So some people like to be scared. Being scared brings adrenaline. And adrenaline is one of the best feelings that a human can go through. There were times when I was very afraid of water and rapids. But it ended up being the single best thing that I get to do in my life. Going down a rapid isn’t very comparable to many other feelings on this planet. The amount of emotions a person can feel in literally two or three seconds makes this such a special experience. And just being in the Grand Canyon is a whole different level of special
Because most people are too scared to risk their lives in the search for new experiences, but why does anyone do anything risky? Driving is more dangerous than running rivers and you risk more skiing or snowboarding than rafting.
Oh hell naw
Lets go that was sick
Good en!!!
I had an old Avon bucket boat years ago.
They’re bulletproof I really enjoyed paddling it
A buddy is trying to get me to run this next year. The R2 shedder was a good call. Ill def run the Owhyee next year again.
It is a MAGICAL stretch. Grand Canyon level scenery and isolation without the multi week commitment. Definitely recommend. The portage around castle grayskull and jarbidge falls would be terrible so if possible and in your comfort zone, I highly recommend just running them.
Where'd you put in?
Just downstream of Dutch oven camp there was some wood just downstream from Dutch oven so we skipped the first quarter mile or so if I remember right
Good song choice haha 👍🔥
@@TheLostOutdoorsman thanks haha gotta love some lynyrd skynyrd
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Looked like a good time!
One of the best runs on the Kern!
@@Highwaterahead I bet. I've been meaning to get down there to visit my buddy Dave. He's works for Mountain and River Adventures. I just got back from a week on the Rogue. It's so beautiful on the Rogue. A bit of good whitewater, but ultimately, just a beautiful trip, and we had a full moon!
5:46 crazy surf from those guys in the blue boat 🌊😎
@@BEBNTC oh yeah Nate and Blake. They got worked for a second! The violence hole is no joke 😂
Where's this at ?? 🤷

@@Highwaterahead Okay ! 👍
I always wondered what that Gauntlet sneak line looked like. Full run footage. Nice job. Nice title and description too.
Yeah the main line at those flows looked a little more meaty than we were all feeling. Main line was great at 1200 though
Spicy Rucka chucky line!
Woah my friend very cool!
Flipping is always fun hope you guys had lots of joy going threw those rapids much love from eagle

Wow haven’t heard Cake in awhile, very nice

So what’s the difference or pros and cons of your raft vs the small rounder blue or yellow ones?
@@nathandietry1608 don’t get me wrong I love round boats! Hyside mini max is what nila and I learned in. I find the cat to be more nimble as an R2 boat than most smaller round boats, it has a ton of stability thanks to the inflatable floor, great rocker helps it slice through big features, and it boofs like a kayak because it’s so light. Also the floor clearance is money for tighter moves in steep creeks. You can sail right over most rocks in the middle of the boat so it’s a little more versatile in that sense.
I’ve got to make it to a fest, ive only been there 3 times but I’m hooked and the fest looks amazing
@@nathandietry1608 it’s amazing man it’s a pilgrimage that all boaters must make at least once. The Gauley is Mecca
@@Highwateraheadfuck yeah!!! Popping my cherry this year!!! 2 days of driving from the true NoCal to WV to R2 my Sabertooth and do some immersion research in Gauley Fest energy!! #SENDINGIT 😊
