  • It took almost 2 months, but we're finally catching up on edits and I took the time to finish the video of our first Thunder Run. We were definitely puckered going into this run, not really knowing what to expect, but it turned out to be one of our smoothest and favorite personal first descents ever.
The Thunder Run on the Upper Kern (or North Fork of the Kern) is one of the premier commercial Class V rafting trips anywhere. With intimidating rapids like Squashed Paddler, Sock 'Em Dog, The Flume, and Fender Bender, Thunder provides some of the best roadside entry level Class V in California. We had an absolute blast and have had so many more sick runs on the Kern since this first rite of passage.
The Kern River truly is a special place. Unique scenery, beautiful whitewater that varies section to section, and one of the best communities of guides and boaters in the world make this place a special one in our hearts. If you haven't been, you should go, and if you have, then you know.
    See you on the river,
    HWA
