Hi! It did sound like a wonderful year with just a miss here or there. Ambleside is such a rich resource. 🌻
@@homeschoolingthroughhighschool yes, it is!! I didn't even know about it until 3 years ago! So grateful a local mom told me about it!
What did you use for Y4 Latin? And what did Adelaide think about it?
We will use Wheelocks this fall!
With the big leap we made to Y4 last year I thought I would hold off on Latin one year 😆 it was a good choice! We're ready now! If I personally knew Latin I would have had more confidence but we will learn together!
the Northern states of America most definitely experience the power of cold and ice. Not just a "European" or "England" thing
Yes yes! This is so true! I wish we had a book like Madam How and Why written with American lands and scenery 😍
We had the same problem with our book of centuries. It’s not really something I can schedule, I’m just telling my kids to keep it out on the table during all readings so they can put people and events in every day. 😅
That's a great idea! I will plan to keep it out in the open this next year so we both see it as a visual reminder!
For the Genevieve Foster books, I assigned a single section per day. The sections are short and we got through all of it.
Yesss I wish someone would have told me that last summer, lol! Now we know! So this next year with Lincoln's World it will be daily because they are so short!
I highly recommend looking into a book by Generations Curriculum called Worldviews in Conflict a study of western philosophy, literature, and culture by Kevin Swanson before teaching your children about Shakespeare and other Classical Writers. I had no idea the true darkness that some of these writers had until looking into this. We no longer will be studying Shakespeare and some others in the younger years. As a Christian family we will be looking at them in high school through a different lens.
I think we are doing GWW twice a week through the whole year so we can just do a story at a time. I definitely think it’s a hefty read for year four!
Yes! A solid jump! I think that's a great plan! We should have started out that way but you live and learn lol!
The oldest kiddos are the guinea pigs 😂
@@courtneyclark1024 they sure are lol! God will be gracious to them! Lol
Is there a prompt anywhere for what to put in the book of centuries or do you just put what you want when it comes up in reading? Thank you
Add it as you wish!
We have gotten some of the Holling C Holling books from the library but I decided to buy the set recently. They are excellent!
Yes, so beautiful!! 😍 a collection for every home!
Agreed! They are all so good. ❤
Are you still using MUS?
@@lindsaypotter3694 yesss!! Our favorite! My oldest is in Epsilon now and my 2nd is in Gamma and my 3rd child will start Primer this fall.
I've met Steve Demme, too. It was great!
Yes!
Very cute video! Your daughter's are beautiful! Would you ever do a home library tour?
It's on my list! 🙌🏻😍
@@hannahgravelle ha ha thank you! When I see haul videos, I always think, where does that all go? How do they make room for that or how do they organize it all?
@@ezekielfenjavandehei3189 truth lol! Especially in our tiny house!
This was so sweet 🎂 happy birthdays 🎁 Great finds I love thrifting. What a great idea to take them thrifting on their birthdays 💞
They love it! Thanks for watching their fun video!
@@hannahgravelle They did great!
This was such a sweet video, I love taking my kids to shop on their birthdays too. ❤❤❤ (p.s. My Once Upon A Child prices their books according to their condition and maybe what they think is worth more. My Goodwill is always 2.99 for childrens books......the internet flippers have really ruined thrifting at old school garage sale prices, it's sad but I'll continue to thrift as long as I can. 😅💃) 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Happy Birthday Julia and Adelaide!
Oh good to know! Yeah I asked the owner at our Once Upon a Child and she said theirs are always a $1 😱 except some chapter books! Right?! We will thrift too but it is annoying lol
Loved this video. Great hauls! Happy birthday girls! Our Once Upon a Child has some great books! No one is ever looking at them when I’m there. Goodwill usually has good ones also but they take a while to pick through. Usually .50-$1.50.
I'll have to check goodwill! I never bother with they're cloths because I think they over price for a thrifting but I'll definitely I'll go check their books!! 🙌🏻
Thank you so much for sharing your homeschool journey! You have no idea how many tactical questions you have answered just in a few videos that I have watched of yours. :) Question - Do your girls do only oral narrations? If so, when in your schedule do you schedule listening to their narrations?
I'm so encouraged to hear this feedback! ❤️ my oldest does one written narration a week! And they narrate after their readings directly! (For now) once the boys are in school, I think we'll have to add it to the timetable.
One of the things I've done for the AO-specific books is use the no-rush shipping rewards to purchase the ebooks. Ebooks aren't my favorite, but when I can get 2-3 books for free each year, it's worth it for us.
Oh nice tip! We used a few audiobooks and followed along. No rush shipping and ebooks from where?
Are you registered as a homeschool educator on ThriftBooks? For every 4 used books you purchase, the 5th one is free (I believe they have to be purchased at the same time!).
Yessss! the best!! ✨️✨️✨️
We’re also using A Visit to North America! I’m super excited
It's such a beautiful book! I love their curriculum 🤩
Great to see similar books and curriculum choices that we have used or will use. I LOVED everything about the Math U See program until my kids got to Algebra. It was at that time that I noticed that my kids had struggles with understanding the concept after watching the videos. This past year I had my two high school students switch to the Denison Algebra math curriculum. Best decision ever! My oldest who was in tears at least once a week last year and needed my help with every problem and still didn’t seem to get it did her entire year of Geometry without any help from me and received a solid A for a grade. It is an AMAZING curriculum! It starts at Pre-Algebra and goes through all the high school math courses.
Oh this is helpful!! I'll keep that in mind! I'm so excited about algebra 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
Are you supposed to complete a-g each day? Or do you do that over a week? Or for a set amount of time?
Great question! I do it until mastery! So sometimes they need all 3 lessons (a,b,c) sometimes only 2 if it's easy! And systematic reviews (d,e,f) same thing! We always do g :) so sometimes they will only do a,b,d,e if they have mastered it!
What curriculum do you use?
Mostly literature based Charlotte Mason inspired! I have a few curriculum videos in my homeschool playlist, hopefully that will be helpful! ❤️
How helpful is this! I’ve been thinking of incorporating Ambleside to our SCM schedule and this removes all intimidation. :) Question - What do you do for “morning time”? When do you hear or read their narrations? Do you read the books yourself to corroborate their narrations or just receive them?
Oh yay! These two videos I think will be helpful to answer your questions! ❤️ ruclips.net/video/F8bvdM2HMZg/видео.html ruclips.net/video/CA_enpE7Zmw/видео.html What we do for morning time and when I hear narrations! With only 2 in AO, I can hear narrations right after their readings. For my oldest, I tried to pre-read most of her books but didn't get to them all last year! This summer I plan to do better on that regard. My 2nd born we read them together :)
When you spoke with so much gratitude for your Mom laying her life down for her children, it made me cry. It truly touched my heart because there are so many nights where I lie awake wondering if my children will appreciate the lifestyle my husband and I have chosen to live (which is often against the grain of the rest of the world). We do dedicate ourselves to them all day, everyday and we'll continue to whether we know if they appreciate it or not......but your video gave me hope. Heheheh. ❤😄🙂💞
I'm so grateful ❤️🙏 you are both doing a great work, what God has called us parents to do.
It’s winter here (Australia) so no summer plans yet 😅
Lol 😆 ah yes! Do you take a "summer" break this winter lol? 😜
@@hannahgravelle it’s definitely tempting 😅
I love how real life this is. Thank you for taking this video!
I'm so glad! Thank you for watching!
We’re in a similar boat. We have about 5-6 weeks left of AO readings left. I’m debating “speeding” through some of them and keeping others to read slowly throughout summer (Robin Hood, Children of the Nee Forest).
I have some CM friends that just finish it them without narration (since that's the tough work) basically just take exams and the read the rest for fun! I think if we were at 12 weeks I would but we can do a few more weeks with narration (I think) and this lighter pace!
Yes please give an update on how your summer "schooling" went please! Considering this for next year!
I absolutely will!!
Where do you find the playlist for the hymns ?

What does she add to the ramen noodles?
Just mixes liquid coconut aminos! :) I'll add some wild caught salmon or tuna to mine and if I have mixed vegetables they'll eat some of that too with it!
This is the first video of yours I’ve watched and I love it! I’m a second generation homeschooler also and we just fished up our first year homeschooling (kindergarten). I’m learning more and more Charlotte Mason as I learn more also. Excited to watch and learn from you!
Welcome! So glad you're here! Thanks for introducing yourself ❤️❤️ what a good guide Charlotte left for us!
You forgot to mention your paper route lol and how you hired you brothers
Oh yes 🤣🤣 I definitely was an opportunist and entrepreneur from the start haha
You were such a hard worker
Thanks Hannah those homeschooling years were and are my best memories as a mom
So thankful ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Those Bob Jones books got trashed lol
So good for concentration
Yes!
I was low on Rosemary too
Thank you for sharing!!! You sound very similar to my homeschool experience back in the early 90s. My mom homeschooled us back when it was taboo, not much out there. We did Konos for awhile, A Beka, BJU, Rod and Staff, Saxon...all the old big names.. spellingpower. But the thing I loved the best was allll the books we read. When we did Beautiful Feet, I loved it. Now starting homeschooling my children..I want to instill that same love of reading GOOD books.
Love this!! Yes, we must be twins! I recognize all those names! And it's the BOOKS that stuck, isn't that incredible 😍 when in doubt, let's just read lol
Love this! I am a second generation homeschool mom too! Listening to this was so funny for me because you sound just like me! I grew up hating history too and I can’t remember anything 😂 I feel like I am learning right along with my kids and I’m finding it interesting for the first time in my life. We are starting a CM style homeschool this year. I am looking at Simply Charlotte Mason and Ambleside. I keep coming back to SCM because it’s family style. I would love to know how you make Ambleside work for the morning time. I’m still trying to put this all together for next year!
Oh how funny is that!! Lol de ja vue! 🤣 these two videos from this year might be helpful to show how I modify AO in some areas to make it family style: ruclips.net/video/CA_enpE7Zmw/видео.htmlsi=if23zbslbvIHasTe ruclips.net/video/F8bvdM2HMZg/видео.htmlsi=53gkQkYC8yI_0z2k
@@hannahgravelle thank you!!
100 years ago there weren’t good child labor laws…🥴
This is true 🥴 but I meant it in the way that many teenagers are just that "teenagers" one of my piano students (nice young man that goes to public school) the other day was venting about how all his peers are so immature and we talked about this very subject! (It can be in homeschool communities too) I think a large part of that is on us, not helping them mature and develop responsibilities and dragging out "adolescents". That's what I was going for in my comment if that makes sense! 😉
I would love a follow up video with your mom and sister too.
That's a great idea! Might need a series of questions to ask them, maybe I can v take a poll for them over on Instagram!
Or do a question box on the gram to get questions
@@carladavis6392 great idea!!
Very encouraging video! I struggle to not regret how I've done things in the past. Thank you for your reminder of God's graciousness❤ we use KONOS a little bit too😊
Yes! When my mom started reading Charlotte Mason's philosophy alongside us this past year she thought "wow, if I had only known..." but that doesn't help us now! God uses all our work that we have done faithfully for His glory! And that is what she did 😍
Loved this video. Thank you for sharing! I am planning to read Home Education this summer and this video gave me the encouragement to do so!
I'm so thankful to hear that! ❤️
God Bless your Mom 🙏 for putting all her time , energy, and love for you and your siblings to homeschool for so many years. Homeschooling can be hard to stick to for so many years.
Amen to that sentiment!!!
So helpful Ty!
Very great ❤👏🏻
How do you teach punctuation through copywork if you aren’t great at grammar? For example commas… I need handholding with grammar and punctuation. Lol
Actually the Simply Charlotte Mason Using Language Well is incorporates grammar little by little especially in level 2 and 3! And it's been super helpful, even for me!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It is so helpful as a first generation homeschool mom to hear from grown children who were homeschooled. I loved what you said about starting small and adding little by little.
Yes! ❤️
Yes!! Messy work, but good work! 🫶🏽🤍 blessings!
