X-Pro 1 + Canon FD Lenses
Просмотров 4,4 тыс.2 месяца назад
The fujifilm X-Pro 1 is still one of my favorite cameras. Recently, I paired it up with a few vintage Canon FD lenses from the 1970’s. These manual lenses are the perfect match for any Fujifilm body. Adapting vintage lenses on modern (ish) digital cameras is a cool way to give new life to old gear. Using the X-Pro 1 has its challenges, but these old lenses have only made things easier with zone...

Consider getting a focal reducer/speed booster. I’ve had a few, and the best I’m currently using is the Zhongyi Turbo II - the Kippon I had was awful, so don’t bother. It’s an excellent adapter with very minimal distortion and is quite cheap. Why use one? You get to use all your old vintage lenses at the focal length they were designed to be. I use all my old Olympus OM Zuiko and Super Takumar and Helios lenses. The adapter is Fuji X to Canon EF….. so if a lens adapts and works on Canon EF mount/cameras, it’ll work on this adapter. The adapter effectively turns the X-Pro1 into a faux full frame monster! I’ve had four X-Pro1 bodies and loved everyone. This adapter has changed things up for sure.
they go for 700 as of now
They need to update this. It will sell like hotcakes
Definitely! I’d buy it in a heartbeat
Underrated video 📹 Great job bro 👏🏻 if I could give you any advice it would be to try to have a little more enthusiasm. I think you'll get more viewers just cause you have a very monotone voice. You don't have to force it, just act a little more interested? Lol, but great video
There’s nothing people love more than unsolicited “advice”. Thank you oh holy one, you must be all knowing about RUclips success with all of your 52 subscribers
X-Pro1/2 and Leica m9/m240 are the golden oldies. All four cameras are forever bodies that still work just perfect. (As long as your M9 has sensor replaced back in the day lol)
agreed! i have been on the hunt for a m8/m9 for years! that would be a mean setup to have all those, at this point i would still take m9 with dead pixels lol
@@alexbemanian I see the M8 locally for well under $2000 all the time. Don't give up the hope! I had to trade such a big pile of gear to get my hands on a M240 lol.
Nice Eleuthera shots!
Thank you ! Eleuthera was one of the best trips I’ve ever been on, such an incredible place.
Great content! You've actually summarized everything you need to know about the Nikonos. I've always wanted to add one of these gems to my collection, and taking pictures in the water entices me so much!
Thank you , glad it was helpful! It really is the perfect tool for water photography and it’s a lot of fun to use.
I sure regret selling this camera. Back then I didn’t really understand how to shoot in the 28mm format. I bought it when it first came out and was reasonably priced. Now I’d really hesitate to buy it for what it sells for here in Tokyo. Too bad! Fuji - update it!😊
I've done the same thing many times. I've even bought cameras back, but with these elevated prices, i don't blame you for hesitating. I hope fuji gives us an update. thanks for watching
Beautiful images as usual
Thank you appreciate it 🤙🏼
Did you use any specific recipes for the photos? :)
Yes , astia and a few velvia. But I mostly edit the raw images and use those color profiles as a starting point in Lightroom
Wow so beautiful! Great job! ❤
Hey man, we need a video showing how you edit your colors. Look banging! Great job!
Thank you I appreciate that. One of these days I’ll definitely do that.
I wouldn't be surprised if X-Pro1 used end up costing more than X-Pro2 in the future.
That would be pretty crazy but yeah I agree. If they were the same price I would grab the 2.
Does anyone have experience with ovf frame lines (and other info in the ovf) being completely faded out and invisible in the day light (barely visible in the shade and normal idoors). I don't have a native lens so I'm unsure if this would go away but when adapting this issue is always present.
Hey , it can be a little hard to see in bright light but It sounds like yours might be going out. Whether I adapt vintage lenses or use a native Fuji x mount lens, the frame lines adjust to the focal length and all the setting info is fully visible. It may be worth trying a native lens just in case? But these x pro 1’s are getting old, I would be surprised if it’s just fading out. Sorry, hope that helps.
Awesome video Alex! Your photos are so good
@@BryanTimm thanks Bryan appreciate it man! 🤙🏼
Ost is great!! What is it??
Is it still good in 2024?
Still great! Use it all the time
What size promist filter should I buy?
depends on the lens you have, look at the mm size
@@alexbemanianwhat strenght of filter do u use ? 1/4 of 1/8?
@@Webrisernl 1/8 . If you don’t have a filter you can get a similar look in Lightroom with just editing
@@alexbemanian I just orderd a 1/8... prime days 😅
Great video. Are all the images shot in kodacrome filmsimulation?
thank you, mostly raw photos using Astia color profile, and i edited some of them from there to look like kodachrome.
Another great vid! Very cool love you ❤
I have Sony Aiii full frame, XT3, X10 and more, but none give the experience of my go to Xpro1.
Same as you , I have a new full frame camera, xf10, and I always go for the x pro. Thanks for watching
Hi, i bought mine recently, i find the wheel dial really sensitive. Is there a setting or something i can do resolve this?
Which wheel dial?
Yay! Your back! Awesome video Al!
Thanks Amy!
Amen Brother!
🙌
There's also a 50mm lens which is amazingly sharp.
@@haimtoeg I would love to try that 50mm
@@alexbemanian you should - it is fabulous, not always available and not cheap when it is, and also requires an external viewfinder. Allegedly it is the same optics used for the GX680 system. I was lucky to find mine at a good price.
Please drop a recipe video for the X-pro1. Colors on your sample photos are amazing. I also have an X-Pro1 and i’m still not getting satisfying results as every recipe on the internet is for newer cameras which have much more settings
@@stefanosantoro1135 thank you , will definitely do a video about editing in the future. The recipes are great but I edit the raw images to get a final result I’m happy with.
Welcome to the vintage lens club. I have 4 Carl Zeiss lens (all different). My personal favorite can still be found for under $75. It's the Jena Biotar. Beautiful bokeh and great contrast.
@@homecareful thank you for watching. I have had eyes on several Carl zeiss lenses myself, sounds like you have a nice set. Those old lenses sure are beautiful, and like you said they can be found for relatively cheap, Can’t beat that value.

Best Sensor ever. Someday, Fuji might have a mode dial for X-Trans simulations instead of film sims someday 😁
Yes, that x trans 1 is certainly something special. That would be really cool to have a mode for switching x trans simulations
That sensor gives insanely good color reproduction. I have an xpro-2 and cant get colors anywhere near this. so good. Do you shoot in raw or are all these jpegs?
Yes I totally agree, the colors keep me coming back. I shoot in raw and then start editing with one of the Fujifilm color profiles in Lightroom, i used astia and velvia for a lot of these photos.
いいねぇ!俺もx-e1で同じように古いレンズを楽しんでるよー、レデューサーレンズ入れるとさらに使いやすくなった👍

You know, it looks good, yet, I have the X70, it's very pleasant as the xf-10 must be , or my GR, and I thought of getting the XF-10 to get out of the 16mpx range. One must also admit that the X70 don't always focus perfect. as I don't use snap focus as much as with my GR. But all together, it's something else. Actually, even though it's Fuji, I was very impressed the other day after watching a video off the Nikon Coolpix A, another 16mp also without antialias filter, and what nailed me was to me the much better color science coming out of it, than what I experienced with my GR, X70 and maybe even the old RX1R II that's not ne most convenient camera despite what one could believe (also focus issues, erratic light metering sometimes, etc.). So, surprised by that, I went on Flickr Nikon A photo group, and there too, in comparaison of the X70 and others I mentioned, I was impressed by the very righteous color and tone of that Nikon Coolpix A. Especially at night where colors are definitely better than my X70, here forget the GR out of tone and Sony is somewhat cold greyish (test on city at night) so now I hesitate. For larger mpx count and more advanced features the XF-10 may have, I don't know if I'll aim to get the XF-10 or the A. I was already lurking at the XF-10, knowing it's another good compact APS-C but now, am I going to go with the A, which, surprisingly I found new on some New York camera site that must have had a load of them since it's not grey market, I don't know... From all these shared thought, would you have any experience with the NIkon A ? That would be interesting to know your thoughts if you do, vs the XF-10 as it's hard to see any YT video comparing them. Thank you for any insight...
@@alanalain4884 thank you for this response, there is a lot to consider here. First of all the xf-10 is incredible, I have never used a more capable camera that’s fits in my pocket other than an iPhone. To me the xf-10 is the perfect pocket camera, if that’s what you’re looking for. But I will say, I don’t love the images out of the camera as much as other old Fujifilm cameras like my x pro 1, which has less megapixels. The xf-10 files are really sharp and the colors are way cooler, which can be fixed in post or white balance etc. I have never used the Nikon Coolpix A, but I would love to! It looks like an amazing little camera, I don’t know much about it, but it seems pretty comparable to the xf10. Maybe someday I can do a side by side comparison. All I can say for certain is the xf10 is incredible, I would buy it again. Good luck on your decision, you can’t miss with those options
@@alexbemanian Thank you for your time to answer and for your insight. I think both must be great camera with a mpx edge for the XF10. Ideally, getting both for the price of one new on the used market would be the best. What I know is that for service/replacement etc. if broken, each time I dealt with Fuji, they were great and also, I think it's worth re-mentioning, I find that for quickly evaluating a real life everyone's images, going on Flickr's photo groups for a given camera (or lens for that matter) gives a very good visual insight of how a camera/lens renders, and some photographers being very good in these groups, it also allows for the average photographer to see how good a camera can be when used with talent, but here, edit has also to be considered. Best.

Dang old photo of the power plant you got there, miss it daily. Just picked one of these up stocked to take it to Kauai
I have thousands of photos with that old power plant in the background, it’s weird not seeing it anymore! Enjoy the new camera , perfect choice for a trip to Kauai 🤙🏼
Just bought one for my trip to Hawaii, trying out this zone focusing thing!
That’s awesome, good luck and enjoy your trip! Hopefully this video helps with the shooting process.
I'll just bought a Nikonos III, so I can use the 80mm without an external viewfinder 😉 Because my V only has 35mm viewfinder lines.
Good call, thats a lot easier than using that external viewfinder. I never understood why they didn’t put 80mm frame lines in the V. Thanks for watching, enjoy the III 🤙🏼
Decided to grab this lens and keep my xpro1 going for another few years. It's still got life left in it.
That’s awesome, it’s a great combo. I hope your x pro lasts for a long time to come!
I've been looking for an everyday camera that gives me manual control. 16mp is more than enough for me. I set out thinking x100, but I'm now trying to decide between the X-E2 or Pro1. I like an optical viewfinder, but also a slightly newer firmware with faster processing 6:44 of the X-E2 appeals also. I guess either will suit, it's a nice decision to have to make!
Can’t go wrong with either option. If you favor the Ovf then an x pro or x100 would be the choice. I complained about the speed of the x pro 1 but I’m now use to it and it doesn’t bother me anymore. If you could find an xe2 for cheap that would be a great choice as well , good luck
I have dony alpha 5100 which i bought to learn photography but hardly used it becuase it doesnt fit in pocket and i hate carrying around. I want to take family photos and street photos only. Do you recommend to get this instead which fits in pocket and not overly priced.
Yes it would be a perfect camera for your use case, it may even be a little overkill. You could find something a lot cheaper that fits in your pocket for everyday photos. The xf10 is the premium option for this if that’s what you’re looking for.
@@alexbemanianCan you suggest which ones are cheaper ones if this is a little overkill?
very very very expensive now!!!
Yep. Up by about $300 from what I can find on KEH.

Great video. Very helpful. To all those Nikonos V owners, be sure to remove the plastic cap covering the rewind lever. If you don't, rust will build up and eat the camera's internals. Very important.
@@IsraelPrivateGuide thanks for sharing , how often do you recommend doing that? After every use ?

I prefer the mechanical Nikonos, as its only a matter of time before the electronics completely gives up.
I’m with you on that 100% .
I keep hearing the X-Pro2's second gen X-Trans sensor is a big upgrade to the X-Pro1's. Anyone have any experience with both? I'm trying to decide whether I should sell my X-Pro1 and get the 2.
I have considered the same thing but not so much for the sensor, more for the upgraded viewfinder and shooting speed. I’ve never tried the 2 but I’m sure it’s a nice upgrade especially if you don’t have to pay too much for the difference in price. I’m waiting to see if Fuji comes out with a version 4. If not I’m going for the 3
