X-Pro 1 + Canon FD Lenses
The fujifilm X-Pro 1 is still one of my favorite cameras. Recently, I paired it up with a few vintage Canon FD lenses from the 1970’s.
These manual lenses are the perfect match for any Fujifilm body. Adapting vintage lenses on modern (ish) digital cameras is a cool way to give new life to old gear.
Using the X-Pro 1 has its challenges, but these old lenses have only made things easier with zone focusing.

The Mamiya 645 1000s is a medium format film camera that was released in the 1970's. It shoots 120 film and gives you 15 shots per roll, making it the most economical choice for medium format film shooters. With film and cameras costs going up constantly, I think this is a great budget option for anyone looking to get into medium format film. The first half of the video explains what this camer...

Mine doesn't work. I just load a roll and it refuses to fire the shutter or advance or anything. Just blinks at me... There's no rewind button either so... Only one way to get the film out, and that's to break out the darkbag. I managed to shoot one roll of ultramax in it before it gave up. Oh well. Might get a 110 one.
been looking for a quality point and shoot camera to take backpacking, with how prevalent heavy dslr'a are its hard to find quality recommendations, thankyou for this video.
Can I ask what settings you used to get these amazing colours?! I’m due to go travelling soon and debating which cameras I take, and would love to do some camera tests. I’m assuming you shoot raw with toned down colours to allow to bring them up with the edit? I would love to know!
You tellin me in ten months the price for this camera jumped up $300?? I hate it here.
really enjoy the video, beautiful pictures! i did the same thing with my film manual pentax lenses :) on my fuji xt4
I want to sell my xf10.
Prices are crazy now. I can buy full frame Nikons for much less and they are far more robust.
love this camera, I almost use it daily, shoting raw !
Same here, it’s the perfect edc!
Hello. I found your channel and this video to be greatly helpful. Is this recommendation still accurate? Also how does this compare to Fujifilm XS10. Appreciate you!
Hello, glad it was helpful for you. I still think the xf10 is an excellent choice. I have never used the x-s10 but if you need an interchangeable lens camera than that will be the choice. The XF10 wins in the convenience category, it fits in your pocket, has a fixed lens, and the photos look great. It just depends on what you need it for.
@@alexbemanian Thanks for taking the time to reply with info. I'm a complete novice to the hobby, and honestly I'm just looking for the simplest digital camera. I've only ever shot with a phone camera before, but my phone's camera broke a few months ago and since the rest of the phone works fine anyway, I couldn't justify buying a new phone just for a newer/better camera. (Especially since these phones with great cameras are at around like 1000 dollars). So I was looking around to find just a camera that I could use in a similar manner, and I think this one could fit what I'm looking for. Just something I can point and shoot at my meals, selfies with my wife, and quick pics of my pets (maybe the occassional landscape if the city looks particularly nice). If you have any other recommendations, I'd be happy to hear them! Thanks for your insights and appreciate what you do!
Alex, thank you for this video. I wonder if you've tried the xpro 3. Great video man!
Hey your welcome glad you enjoyed it. I’ve been thinking about buying the x pro 3 for the last year, I keep holding off thinking an x pro 4 may be coming but I would really love to try one.
WORST AF ever....sold it , dont waste your money, Ricoh iii is SHARPER better lens and IBIS, fuji not even close
@@Ed-lz4jv I agree the AF is bad, thats why I use the snap focus (zone focus) function, it never misses. I’m sure the Ricoh GR III is awesome. Having a sharper lens and IBIS would be nice, but not sure it’s worth paying double the price. Maybe for some people it will be, but I was stoked to pick up the xf-10 for well under $500 when the the grIII is going for $1000. Give me a little EVF built in then we can justify that $1k price tag
what I need is a compact full frame same size as an Olympus XA... dont need 10fps or 6k video. I love my olympus XA but damn manual focus on it can be tricky after a few beers
@@danieldevine yeah that would be the dream , maybe a strip down Lumix s9 of some sort
Great video! I've just bought a refurbished one with a one year warranty, so hopefully it turns out ok! Just to confirm, it is a kodak 200 film you are usingnfor the colour shots in this video?
@@anthony_on_fuji awesome hope you enjoy the new camera , there super fun to use. Yes I believe it’s Kodak gold 200 , it’s been awhile though
Great video. I haven’t seen much on this camera so it’s refreshing. I love my 1000s. Got it kitted out with the pistol grip as well helps stabilize it.
keep coming back to this video Alex. very inspiring this
Thank you I appreciate it 🤙🏼
Great video, thanks! This really helps me to decide on buying one.
glad it was helpful. thanks for watching
Hi, what kind of a adapter are you using? because i with mine i can’t manage to infinity focus i don’t know what i’m doing wrong
are you using an FD lens? I'm using the fotodiox FD-FX adapter
Great video! Thanks for the details and for your impressions.
no problem, glad you enjoyed it
Love your vids bro 😎 super cool and informative
thank you, i appreciate that !
Thinking about a medium format film camera and exploring… nice video! Do you scan your negatives yourself?
Thank you , after scanning hundreds of rolls, these days I don’t scan my own negatives because it’s time consuming and I don’t shoot much film lately. But if you are getting into shooting film , I would totally recommend doing it, you can learn a lot about color grading and how you like to expose your images by scanning your own film.
Fuji camera transfer app is absolutely worthless addict around with it for three years. I’ll never buy or endorse or recommend purchasing a Fuji camera for that reason! It’s 2025 almost in a major player in consumer in professional gear cannot write a program that is easy to use fool proof quick and that’s what it supposed to. How can anyone explain that that’s my rant
The app is frustrating for sure and if you need to transfer photos right away to your phone this isn’t a great option. It won’t stop me from buying a Fuji camera though , I usually transfer all my photos from my sd card days, weeks, or months later. Thanks for watching , I feel that pain though , the app should be better
Great video ❤
Thank you
Thank you
what does the f stands for?
I think the xf usually refers to Fujis lenses on APS-c cameras but I don’t know for sure
thanks bro
Thanks for watching 🤙🏼
My impression is the Samsung NX Mini is the best pocket camera and for video too.
The Samsung looks like an epic little camera. I prefer the larger APS-c sensor over a 1” for photos though
did you edit the photos in post?
Yes
What's the simulation recipe you're using, new to this sensor
I mainly edit the raw images but I use the astia color profile or sometimes velvia as a starting point in Lightroom
Xpro1 & xt-1 is really best fuji color
💯
$300? You got the deal of a lifetime. 15 year old 7mp point and shoots going for more than that.
yes i totally scored on the price, in hindsight, the price was low because the shutter mechanism was going out. but yeah, prices are out of control on these older cameras!
Just bought a mint Nikonos IVa for poor weather land photography (it has a more discreet appearance for me than the V) and today, added a Nikonos III, also in great condition, for the same thing + time at the beach, both with a 35mm f2.5 fitted. I've previously used the excellent Konica MR640 for rain images but the weather sealing and plastic body is wildly outmatched by the Nikonos, that also doubles as a lethal self-defence weapon if required...🤣 It's also hugely refreshing to (finally) see high quality example images posted, that properly showcase the quality attainable, rather than the endless and frustrating You Tube parade of photographs that are just awful, so well done you. Happy days!
congrats on the nikonos cameras, great choice picking up the III, its practically indestructible! glad you enjoyed the images, thanks for watching.
Help! I have an X Pro-1 from 2013, never used, still in the box. I want to take it on vacation next Spring. What lense(s) should I buy for portrait, street, and low light? My budget is $700.
wow, brand new in the box, thats epic! I would recommend the fujifilm 35mm f2 or the ttartisans 27mm 2.8.
Nice to have a Nikonos V in the beach kit too !
definitely
Consider getting a focal reducer/speed booster. I’ve had a few, and the best I’m currently using is the Zhongyi Turbo II - the Kippon I had was awful, so don’t bother. It’s an excellent adapter with very minimal distortion and is quite cheap. Why use one? You get to use all your old vintage lenses at the focal length they were designed to be. I use all my old Olympus OM Zuiko and Super Takumar and Helios lenses. The adapter is Fuji X to Canon EF….. so if a lens adapts and works on Canon EF mount/cameras, it’ll work on this adapter. The adapter effectively turns the X-Pro1 into a faux full frame monster! I’ve had four X-Pro1 bodies and loved everyone. This adapter has changed things up for sure.
that's a great idea, thank you. I will def check that out
I have had the Metabones Speedbooster Ultra for my X-pro2 for over seven years now, and love it. use it with the Olympus Zuiko 28mm f2 and 50mm f1.4 lenses. Love the vintage feel and look. (Of the lenses, but also the images they create) it gives me an extra stop of light, but it also makes the lenses a bit sharper actually. Which is a plus, especially on the 28mm, as that lens doesn’t get very sharp under f4. - Before I got some Fuji primes, the two Zuiko lenses is all I had for my Fuji system, For street, travel and everyday photography. Some of my favourite prints hanging on my walls from all over the world were shot with the speedbooster and these two lenses. (Or a dumb adapter if I needed more reach)
they go for 700 as of now
They need to update this. It will sell like hotcakes
Definitely! I’d buy it in a heartbeat
X-Pro1/2 and Leica m9/m240 are the golden oldies. All four cameras are forever bodies that still work just perfect. (As long as your M9 has sensor replaced back in the day lol)
agreed! i have been on the hunt for a m8/m9 for years! that would be a mean setup to have all those, at this point i would still take m9 with dead pixels lol
@@alexbemanian I see the M8 locally for well under $2000 all the time. Don't give up the hope! I had to trade such a big pile of gear to get my hands on a M240 lol.
Nice Eleuthera shots!
Thank you ! Eleuthera was one of the best trips I’ve ever been on, such an incredible place.
Great content! You've actually summarized everything you need to know about the Nikonos. I've always wanted to add one of these gems to my collection, and taking pictures in the water entices me so much!
Thank you , glad it was helpful! It really is the perfect tool for water photography and it’s a lot of fun to use.
I sure regret selling this camera. Back then I didn’t really understand how to shoot in the 28mm format. I bought it when it first came out and was reasonably priced. Now I’d really hesitate to buy it for what it sells for here in Tokyo. Too bad! Fuji - update it!😊
I've done the same thing many times. I've even bought cameras back, but with these elevated prices, i don't blame you for hesitating. I hope fuji gives us an update. thanks for watching
Beautiful images as usual
Thank you appreciate it 🤙🏼
Did you use any specific recipes for the photos? :)
Yes , astia and a few velvia. But I mostly edit the raw images and use those color profiles as a starting point in Lightroom
Hey man, we need a video showing how you edit your colors. Look banging! Great job!
Thank you I appreciate that. One of these days I’ll definitely do that.
I wouldn't be surprised if X-Pro1 used end up costing more than X-Pro2 in the future.
That would be pretty crazy but yeah I agree. If they were the same price I would grab the 2.
Does anyone have experience with ovf frame lines (and other info in the ovf) being completely faded out and invisible in the day light (barely visible in the shade and normal idoors). I don't have a native lens so I'm unsure if this would go away but when adapting this issue is always present.
Hey , it can be a little hard to see in bright light but It sounds like yours might be going out. Whether I adapt vintage lenses or use a native Fuji x mount lens, the frame lines adjust to the focal length and all the setting info is fully visible. It may be worth trying a native lens just in case? But these x pro 1’s are getting old, I would be surprised if it’s just fading out. Sorry, hope that helps.
Awesome video Alex! Your photos are so good
@@BryanTimm thanks Bryan appreciate it man! 🤙🏼
Ost is great!! What is it??
Is it still good in 2024?
Still great! Use it all the time
What size promist filter should I buy?
depends on the lens you have, look at the mm size
@@alexbemanianwhat strenght of filter do u use ? 1/4 of 1/8?
@@Webrisernl 1/8 . If you don’t have a filter you can get a similar look in Lightroom with just editing
@@alexbemanian I just orderd a 1/8... prime days 😅
Great video. Are all the images shot in kodacrome filmsimulation?
thank you, mostly raw photos using Astia color profile, and i edited some of them from there to look like kodachrome.
