Why don’t you wire your batteries in series so you can double your controller wattage?

Yea cannot count the channels I have unsubscribed to because they push sponsors and provide no genuine content like they did when they started their channel. Their channel dies as they add more sponsors. I am very picky now before I subscribe to any channels.

Hi Bib, great video as usual, very practic and straight to the point. A fully charged 12v LiFePO4 battery is at 13,5v at rest. 14,2v is meant for recharging faster, and the voltage you get for that, is actually higher coming from the solar charge controller. When it reaches that voktage, it is supposed to throtle down to absorption (lower voltage). Bulk is meant to recharge faster, and bring you back to almost full fast. Absorption should be set at a lower voltage than bulk, because you are just trying to flood the cell with the last electrons, that take more time to find the spaces to "connect", when the free places for electrons are getting fewer as you get to 95% or so. So it needs time for the last bit, and a higher voltage does not help, it just pushes harder. Keeping it at 14,2v does not bring much, if any benefit. I would set up absorption to 13,8v (1 to 2 hours) and float at 13,5v. If you stay at 14,2v, you are already in the higher end of the LiFePO4 voltage curve (3,55v per cell), which is just stress for the chemistry. The balance is between getting a full charge fast, and keeping it topped off. If absorption is set to 13,8v, it will still fully charge but taking it easier on the cell chemistry. If you make the maths, 13,8v is 3,45v per cell, where the cells are just entering the "stress" zone and you eant tonkeep them just "at the doorstep". If for any reason you don't get a full charge, you can play a bit with absorption timing to get you there. The reason why I am mentioning all this, is because, above 13,8v, battery voltage fluctuation is very, very sensitive to any given fluctuation. And I think this is the case, apart from the great explanation given above about why Victron rates their equipment with VA's and not whats. Cheers and have fun.

Where i live the cost to set up a solar system is soo expensive like really expensive an now thanks to you and the videos I've watched from your channel, now i have a small system and it's working like a charm and am not using the local power company power right now and i can use a fan a small deep freezer some lights an iron blender and a 6000 btu ac for free. And thats one less utility bill to pay for. Am just saying..... Just be real with people they will appreciate it

i-am building 51.2 volt batteries with EVE MB31 3.2V 314Ah Lifepo4 Grade A cells @ $87 each = $1392 and a 200 amp JK-Inverter-BMS (PB2A16S20P) with a 2 Amp active balancer built-in & 4.3 inch LCD display @ $220 and free shipping, no tax from a Texas warehouse. That is a 16.1 kilowatt hour battery for just $1,612. However, using Chins 12 Volt 300AH Lithium Batteries, it would require 4 of them to make a 15.4 Kilowatt battery. And at $560 + tax = $594 each the cost would be $2376, Not only would you end up with 15.4KWh instead of 16.1KWh, but you would need more copper wire and more space. I save $764 and have the best BMS on earth with 8,000 cycle battery cells, that is a 22 year life expectancy.

Wow Bob, I was not expecting this today but well said. I have noticed a number of off-grid / alternative energy channels have been nothing more than Chinese agents selling the next RV battery. Frankly, I have NOT bought one battery unless I see it torn down for the build quality, PERIOD! The pricing of prismatic cells in some ways make it easy to build UNTIL you factor in shipping from china. One thing on quality of batteries, I have found that AGM from both Renogy and Kilo Vault both SUCK! I use 12v 4/0 connections and once the sun sets they drop really fast while running 40A loads. However, my 24v FLA golf cart bank can handle the load a long time after the sun sets as well as my HQST Lithium 12v bank! I am done with RV LiFEPO4, and plan to move to home battery 48v set ups due to the built in safety systems when we get the next home. Just know that we YOUR viewers appreciate what you are attempting to do, because once trust is lost, your viewers leave. If the battery is that GOOD, then why don't the manufacturers create their OWN content? Crickets.......Also, don't buy anything from Pow Mr. either...........Have a great day in paradise from SE Mich.

IMO the charger is pulsing to look for a battery to charge and at roughly zero load the "look for load" pulse causes the charge controller to twitch.

You are not going to be able to complete with the price as a garage company…it is up to American industry to build these at competitive price . Have fun stay safe.

You don't see US companies doing it because of the regulations..... and that's just one of many reasons.... cost of labor ....cost of insurance... cost of building the facility... and then all the employee costs... that come with doing business in the United States.... and all that to make $40 a battery I own a roofing business and a doggy daycare...both are FULL of regulations ...crazy insurance costs and employee costs that you may not control... I can only imagine the regulation and insurance crazyness of a product that might spontaneously combust..... As a sidebar... I might be interested in acquiring some of the extra testing products that are not in use....for testing of my own...of course.

Guess I'm going to go unplug the charger for my weed whacker that's out in the shop and only plug it in when I need to charge the battery. The shop is on the grid but what power is that using? Like having the TV on with remote ready which we generally keep the power strip turned off.

Unfortunately I have noticed some channels I followed for decades, now pushing products and some of the products look like cheap rubbish. It's almost like they are doing a scripted review with positive product outcomes. I now only follow channels that have a no BS approach and give their honest opinion on products they choose to share with us. I use to give my opinions on products I use and are testing. But now it is getting harder, thanks to companies wanting to sue, I don't do review videos anymore. And yes I also grew up with Flooded Lead Acid Batteries, PWM Controllers and Modified Sinewave Inverters. 👍

They can go eff themselves Bob. In no way have you done anything unethical.

It's way to late. The number of channels willing to hawk anything for a buck and or a freebee is astronomical. The way RUclips is now... many of the channels that are getting the most views are production company owned Fake RUclips creators .. especially the Hot Chick Vanlife Channels.. You would think most people are able to tell the difference between a 100 dollar cell phone video and no mic posted stright to youtube video .... and a video produced by 30 professionals that did the audio, video color matching and set design while using 250k in pro gear... if not much much more. Thing is most obviously can't tell or don't care.. My point being.. it's to late... I just don't think honesty wis this battle anymore... The dollar is and will be the winner. Sure there are plenty of honest decent youtubers doing reliable honest trustworthy videos. I just don't believe we'll see many stay that way for long...

I have been using lithium batteries for years. I actually build my own batteries. Almost every cell comes from China. I have used all chemistries except for sodimm and sold state. My favorite BMS is JBD and 100 Balance is my go to smart balancer. I do like Renogy smart batteries for plug and play. I love helping people understand batteries better, I also have the Aloha spirit. Keep up standing on your principles. That is what will dictate what the market does. Aloha.
