Calamari Fishing - pre closure
Well, after what seems like FOREVER, here we are with a pre-season Calamari session. So good to be back on the water after an extremely and frustrating windy winter. It has been relentless, so let’s hope Spring and Summer turn it on!
From all signs witnessed in the SE of Tasmania, I would say the Squid/Calamari season closure timing was about spot on. Here's hoping it pays off in future years to come.
Favourite Jigs: Fujimaru Raptor, in colour: Tropical. YoZuri Aurie Q, in colour: HS. Thanks for watching! :) @itswizza

Fish for the freezer. Broadbill Swordfish coming home with us.
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.7 месяцев назад
We set out with a mission. A mid-size Sword to fill the freezer, and that was exactly what we got. It was meant to be and would not have been releasable even if we tried. Weighing in at 138kg. This fish marks the end of our 2024 season and what a season it has been. We've learnt a lot more than we thought we already knew about these fish and made some incredible memories along the way. We did 1...
Broadbill Swordfish. Things don't always go to plan.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. These 90-150kg models seem to give us the most trouble. Erratic and unpredictable, just as this one was. The speed these fish can move with just a few tail beats is impressive and you have to be ready to react. Unfortunately we missed the most impressive close-up jump, and yes, that was my scream. It was charging at us and there was real fear for a mom...
Testing the new Florless Rod. Tag & Release Bluefin Tuna & Swordfish
Просмотров 9118 месяцев назад
Straight after the AIBT, like a kid with a new bike at Christmas, I was keen to test out the prize rod! We headed out for a short day, tagging a nice Bluefin Tuna followed by the cutest little specimen of a Swordfish. Rating the new @florless rod highly. Two thumbs up, 5 out of 5 stars. @itswizza Thanks for watching :)
Australian International Billfish Tournament 2024 Tasmania PART TWO. Swordfishing.
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.8 месяцев назад
Part two.. what a crazy day this was!! The most physical, emotional and best day fishing I have ever experienced! We dropped 7 baits, got 6 hook-ups, lost 2 on the drive to the surface, tagged and released 3 Broadbill Swordfish and lost another on the leader boat-side. Incredible!! The stars aligned and we were gifted. One was a dream bucket list fish, estimated close to 300kg and took 3.5hrs i...
Australian International Billfish Tournament 2024 Tasmania PART ONE. Swordfishing.
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.8 месяцев назад
For the first time ever in it’s 61-year history the Australian International Billfish Tournament was held in Tasmanian waters! Teams could nominate up to 7 days fishing within the 14-day competition window, with the entire East Coast of Tasmanian providing the spectacular backdrop to what was a phenomenal event! From the 30 boats and 107 entrants a total of 29 Swordfish were tagged and released...
Another BROADBILL SWORDFISH Tag & Release.
Просмотров 2 тыс.10 месяцев назад
After just 1 day’s rest, we backed it up with another successful tag & release. The captain came out of retirement for 1hr 55mins, landing a smaller, but porky swordfish, estimated around 150kg. A similar fight to the previous fish, no early visual and very stubborn, playing hard at 40-50m below the boat for the majority of the fight. Playing nicely beside the boat this time, it received its ta...
BIG fish! Deep Dropping for BROADBILL SWORDFISH. Successful Tag and Release!
Просмотров 6 тыс.10 месяцев назад
With ideal conditions, we headed to one of our favourite Sword spots and successfully tagged and released our first hook up for the season - and the biggest I have fought! We got it within 40m of the boat pretty quickly and initially I thought it might be a nice 120ish kg model. Then it dumped 80m of line and dogged it out for the remainder of the time between 20m and 120m, remaining static for...
Rock Lobster Diving. Opening weekend for the 23-24 Cray Season.

It's beginning to feel a lot of Christmas! Summers here, the weather is turning it on and we're back into diving = happy days!! Water temp 17.5oC. Pretty pleased with a 2.6kg buck as my #1 crayfish to open the 23-24 season account. Thanks to JV for some extra footage as well as the 2 dive days over the weekend. Enjoy! Thanks for watching! @itswizza :)
Striped Trumpeter Fishing, Tasman Island
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.Год назад
Join us for a very relaxed and damp day out. Apologies for the audio variation - blame the rain. This half day mission to Tasman Island was in search of Striped Trumpeter. Something we haven't targeted for some time. Plenty of Ocean Perch (aka Gurnard) to filter through, but our 2 bag limit of Stripey was fast over in a couple of drops. Stopping for a quick flick for a fast 10 Squid on the way ...
Deep Sea Fishing for Blue-eye Trevalla

WE’RE BACK! Yes, it has been a while between videos. Fishing has taken a back seat for a short time whilst we’ve been busy setting ourselves up to spend even more time doing what we love! After a 9 week hiatus (which saw us come home with only 1 Blue-eye and 1 Ling in late August), we were excited to finally have an opportunity to hit the shelf again. The day was a bit of hard work, constantly ...
Scallop Diving

It's been a while between dives and after some heavy rain the days prior, we were pleasantly surprised with the unexpected, 10 m of visibility. Water temp was up 1 degree from the last dip, which makes more difference than you would think, along with a second hood. Thanks for watching @itswizza

HOT BITE! Double Barrel and two Swordfish in one day.
Просмотров 6 тыс.Год назад
With not too many weather windows offered to us over our April holidays, we've been impatiently waiting to hit the shelf again and i guess you could say we made up for lost time! Feeling pretty weary after 3 days fishing the Tom Jenkins Bluefin Tuna Comp, I wasn't about to give up the chance to drop some baits in exchange for sleep. Make hay while the sun shines as they say and if the weather s...
Scallops, Free Diving, Bluefin Tuna, Bait rigging, Albatross and Dolphins. A bit of everything!

Well, here we are. A month off work in the pursuit of Swordfish. We've hit the water hard straight up with a day diving/free diving for scallops and crayfish, followed up with 2 back to back days deep dropping the continental shelf out of Eaglehawk Neck and Boomer Bay. No swordfish to report yet, for us, but there have been a few caught already and statistically the odds don't seem to bad. But,...

Nice job mate been watching your vids for a bit love the tips helped me out alot
@@redsadventuresAU That's great mate 👍 I'm pleased to hear you've got something out of watching them. Keep up the good work 🎣📹😁
@ thx 🤙🏼
I would be worried about a shark, or seal coming to the surface, just as you reach down to slowly bring that fish onboard! (Probably no seals that far out, but sharks...)
This winter has been absolutely ridiculous. Good to see you back on the water!
I need to take you fishing with me. My boat always looks like a crime scene when I get home😂 I could use someone to do the housework, lol.
@officialWWM 🤣🤣 I figure it's ok to the make the mess so long as you also clean it too.
That’s quite the outfit you have there 😂
Great work again guys 🇦🇺 👍
good to see you back. Individual sword baits?
@__Brad__ most were perfect eating size and went to the good freezer. But a couple got put in the bait freezer 😉
Also in NSW regs state - No more than 3 hooks or 3 gangs of hooks attached per line , 5 deep sea fish combined limit with a max of 2 gems per person - so if your first two fish are gems you are done for the day. But still worth a trip out to bag some 👍
Wonderful stuff fyi i had no problem with the filming
hardly an abalone!
Awesome release nice tagged ! well done !
Thanks! Love catching them but love to see them swim away too.
Good work
Love your vids keep it up 🤙
Well done!
they have high mercury in them... and they taste horrid...
Good stuff
Great job, that was an amazing fight. Congratulations 🎊 how far do you go out on the single engine boat. We do Swordfishing out of Miami Florida 🇺🇸 with single engine boat out 25miles out
Thanks! We're quite lucky here in Tassie that the shelf edge where we fish is as close as 27kms (16-17 miles) from our local ramp.
Great work again guys 🇦🇺👍
It's not ur gonna need a bigger boat, but ur gonna need a bigger eskie. Looked like a glamour day on the water.
Cheers. Conditions like this make this style of fishing easy. If it's above 12-15knots we'll reconsider going depending on the swell as it makes it too hard to stay in contact with the bait and can make a hard days work, especially for the captain on the wheel.
You guys are Legends, how do you keep so calm?
The adrenaline and heart rate still spike when when we hook up! I'm most comfortable settled into the fight when we're directly over the top of it fighting it up and down. A surface fish makes me nervous. I've angled a few of these now and although some still throw surprises at you, I know what I'm in for. I focus on feeling the fish, letting it do it's thing and respond to it. I'm also a firm believer in if I treat the fish nicely it will do the same to me haha.
The Billfish Champion strikes again ....good to see Stu pulling his weight lol. Awesome work AGAIN !!
Never seen a swordy so nackered at the boat, didn’t flinch n the gaffs even!
I think the fact it's stomach was out the way it was didnt help.
@@itswizza good you kept that one to eat and not try release. Brody was closest on the weight…did you have to clean the fish!?
@@adammcgeorge3538 yeah, it would not have swam even if we tried. It was the one we wanted to keep and that's what we were gifted. To only have 1 from 11 that didn't swim off is an awesome result for the season. We removed the head, tail and gutted it and put it in ice filled insulated bag and processed it the following morning. We vacuum seal all our seafood to keep it at its best quality frozen. 100% the only way we will freeze any seafood.
@@itswizza definitely a good result all around!
Only Safe to eat a couple of times a year. Full of mercury.
Great job boys. Thanks for the video
your dead set legends
It is the season that keeps on giving!
Sweet video yet again!! What rod is on that talica?
Cheers. It's a custom rod I won in the Australian International Billfish Tournament in April. Check out Florless Rods on Facebook. This one is 37kg with a tip extension and Winthrop roller. I love it! Sensitive to detect bites yet strong, springy and has good lifting power. I'm 165cm/55kg and its perfect for me. The maker came down here and fished the comp/trialled a few. Hes since made a few of the Tassie boys 37-60kg rods and dialled them back to 5'6".
His work is high quality 👌 facebook.com/share/uuL3bS2fVJhyEPoM/?mibextid=qi2Omg
Could you go through your rig and bait rigging sometime just as you use it. Curious on some of the details.
Hard tag on that one coming in belly up, definitely tag resistent!
@adammcgeorge3538 ruclips.net/video/iGhEcWnhp2I/видео.htmlfeature=shared here's an example of how I rig my baits.
awesome fishing well done what a team
your block and tackle needs re rigging all the lines should run straight so you get a even pull on the lines nice fish and to good to let it go to waste tight lines
Great work, good to see the new toys getting a run. I see Mr Big Pig is banging a "few bottle fish"
Reckon the fish like the new rod ;) nice work!
Great work again guys 👏👍
that bird looked pissed i
Well done legends 👏
That was an epic days fishing and such a great video edit LOve your work - The pair of you Well done
Thank you! It was insane, absolutely crazy!! The hardest, most physical, exciting, emotional, and best day of fishing ever! Haha
Great video! Is there an open and closed season on scallops in Tasmania?
Yes there is an open/closed season. fishing.tas.gov.au/recreational-fishing/fishing-by-species/scallop-fishing
Well Done, great effort
You would have to have one of the best sword fisheries in aus. Well done, you two definitely have the sword fishing dialled in and great to see so many tags going in.
It's been an insane season. They dont usually come this "easy". As of this weekend, we've done 11 swords from 11 trips now. 10 swam away (8 of tagged). As the season getting on, we boated our most recent one, a 138kg model. A nice manageable size for 2 to get in the boat.
She took your hat off on that leadering job Brody ;)
Who needs to hook ‘em when you lasso them! You go cowgirl! ;)
Every "small fish" (under 100kg) has been lassoed. It didn't matter if I used a small bait or a big one. Some lucky catches!
Congratulations, amazing effort, well done to both of you.
Awesome !!!
Just wow.
Fking wild day, so epic. So stoked for you guys.
This was a once in a lifetime kind of day. My expectations of a good day swordfishing are now ruined forever 🤣
Congrats guys, just watched both videos you two are a great team..
Thanks! 2 up is hard at times. Communication is key!
Definitely. We are also only ever 2...
top stuff!! awesome effort you 2 !!!
Haha. Thanks! Not sure how I kept going, but I did, think it was combo of adrenalin and determination. I was definitely speeches at times.. it was the most insane days fishing EVER! We're a pretty well-oiled machine now 👌
